Good point. I hadn't considered that...probably because I was thinking that there weren't really any functional controls or adjustments behind the glass as was asked in the post I was responding to.
But now you've encouraged me to go clean the screen on my machine. I know from the televisions in my house that the picture tube is essentially a big dust magnet, so the monitor inside my machine probably has a good layer of dust on it. It's not like the cabinet is sealed from dust or anything. ;) I tend to wipe down the front glass periodically, but I've never cleaned the tube itself. I guess I just never thought about it. Thanks for the tip! |

I'm considering buying a machine and thinking about where to place it. Is there any problem with putting one on carpet? Am I better off putting some plywood or something underneath it? |

There shouldn't really be any problem with putting it on carpet except that you will probably smash the pile of the carpet underneath the feet of the machine. However, if you're thinking about putting it in your house, I wouldn't recommend putting on a second floor or even a first floor that over a crawlspace or basement.
Remember, this is a 950 lb. machine that you jump on...I'd guess that most residential floor joists simply aren't meant to take that kind of a beating. It's ok if there's carpet under the machine, but there had better be concrete under that carpet or your machine may end up one floor lower in a quick and violent fashion. So a basement or a first floor that's built on a slab is probably your best bet. |

Oh yes, bottom floor of course. I'm quite sure there's cement under the carpet as I had to tear it up after a pipe froze and burst. (Such fun!) |

ok a question. i figured it could go here, since it is about arcades.
as i have read, the ddr monitor is supposed to be 29'. i have an arcade that needs a new monitor for their ddr machine, since the old one has pretty much went kaput. anyway, i checked on betson imperial, but they only have 27' monitors. my guess is that it would be acceptable to put in a ddr machine, would it work? (pretty stupid question, but i figured i'd ask it anyway) _________________

you should be able to use the 27 incher, it's just gonna be a bit on the small side.
You may also have to create some sort of extra bracing for the monitor. _________________

I just got a brand new monitor in my machine, its a 29 incher, I had to make some adjustments to the brackets to get it to fit, but it works fine. 27 should be no problem, probably fit better. Just expect bracket adjustments. |

Ok. This might seem like a -very- dumb question but I am confused and have to get help. Alright my question is:
In the arcade version of Extreme, is there more songlists than the ones they give you. I mean like songs from the previous DR games and ect? |

another monitor question :
could just a standard arcade monitor be put into a ddr machine? (despite the cabinet being non us, though i was thinking wasn't all ddr machines basically the same regardless if it was us or jp or korean) _________________

So long as the monitor you want to use has Red, Green, Blue, Sync and Ground as its inputs, it will work as long as you know how to hook it up correctly. |

Actually, Konami probably does "care" but it's more of an "oh, they have the Extremes over there. So what."
Yes, actually it is "illegal" but it's not a law that's enforced... largely because enforcing it would be pointless. _________________

Behind some (not all) DDR cabinets, there is a little panel in the lower right corner with what looks like a VGA port and some RCA audio jacks. Are they really audio/video outputs or are they for something else? _________________

ok back again, with a little update.
i talked with the arcade owner about the monitor. unfournately the cabinet is korean (was originally a korean v2), and so the monitor's wiring is set for korea, not us/japan monitors. however he did say it may be possible to rewire a us/japan monitor to fit it. i am asking if anyone has had to do this for a korean ddr cabinet. if they do, how do you do it?? _________________

Audio jacks are audio output jacks.
Never tried the VGA output because I have heard it does not work on a standard monitor, plus my PC monitor weighs 80 lbs+, so i don't wanna lug it downstairs just to test this and maybe risk damaging it. |

My machine has both audio output AND input jacks. I've hooked up a Discman to the input jacks and have been able to play CDs through the speakers. Of course the game's audio still comes through as well. So if you don't turn off attract mode sound or attempt to actually play a game you get both sound sources mixed--sonic soup!
As for the monitor out jack. Yes, it does look like a VGA port, but the signal is not VGA. The refresh rate is well below VGA specs. It's an RGB signal and you could hook up an external arcade monitor to it, if you were so inclined. |

Question: What are the dimensions for the pads?
