i just did the tommy gun mod last night and so far so good. the only prob i see is that it still shifts across the floor when i play, thats ok though i'm going ot go back to home depot and get something for traction on the bottom of the plywood. i did 4 pads and and the total cost for all supplies was a little under 40$. i'm sure the wood will outlast the pad, so i'll be able to use that again. this is a great mod it worked awesome on the cheapo naki pad, the pad that came with ddrultramix is not as good in my opinion. i think the reason is becuse the naki has an extra layer of cushioning to it. the next mod i'm gonna do to these things is make hinges so that they'll be more portable and they will be right next to each other when playing doubles. i want the hinges have something so i can detach them if i ever want to just use one without actually having to take out a screw or anything.
all in all an easy inexpensive mod that hopefully will make the lifespan of these pads last alot longer and be more accurate. _________________

Ok i have a problem.
My ignition pad works really well in its sensitivity, maybe a little too good i think. For some reason i keep on getting almosts or goods for no apparent reason when i know im exactly on beat. Im thinking as i lift my foot off of one arrow, the pad recoils and the other sensor picks it up before i even hit the arrow. Does anyone else have that problem with the ignition pad? |

I bought a Level Six 3.1 pad, and found that the foam under each arrow is too thick, and makes the pad insensitive - especially when using their hard foam.
I've found that the hard foam when used with my year-old Cypher Games ignition pad is just about perfect - the best DDR experience I've had yet. It's smooth, firm, and very responsive, but with enough give to keep me from hurting myself or wearing myself out. Unfortunately Cypher Games doesn't seem to carry that exact pad anymore.
I'm looking that older style ignition pad: it has a smooth silver top, 0.75" white foam in three pieces, X and O buttons in two corners, and Games Depot controller.
Does anyone know if that pad is available anywhere? I'm wondering if the current Cypher Games 1.0 pad, any of the ignition 2.0 pads with 2-cm foam on eBay, or the Level Six 2.0/2.1 pads are what I want. (even though the Level Six 2.0 pad has 1-inch black foam)
Thanks,
Jacob |

Incidentally, I'll report my pad experiences: for reference, I hate playing at the arcade. Stomping on those insensitive buttons makes me ragged. I prefer to play at home in socks.
The Level Six 3.1 pad is more responsive with their "dense" foam (which is not dense) than with the hard foam, but the "dense" foam is too thick and soft. At 1 inch, I feel like I'm sinking into it, no matter which pad I use it in. (I always play with a wood board or hard floor under the pad) As I said in my previous message, the foam under each of the arrows is too thick, and makes the pad unresponsive. The pad is thicker, less smooth, and more crinkly than my old Cypher Games pad. My year-old Cypher Games ignition pad with the 0.75-inch white foam was second best. That same pad with Level Six's hard foam is best. |

|
|
Hi Everyone!
As you can tell from the stats, this is my first post. I am a recent "convert" and am still learning the ropes. My main interest in DDR is as a fun form of exercise. However, one thing that was crystal clear from the beginning was that my MadCatz pad was totally inadequate. After reading all of the reviews, and considering my "not-fully-addicted-yet" status and current budget, I finally broke down and ordered a pair of BNS DX Extreme dance mats (on sale, 2 for $83 + ship). They arrived yestereday.
The box was bigger than I expected - about 12x9x36. Both pads were packed "loose" in the box (i.e. not separate boxes) as was the foam. Each pad was in its own plastic baggie with a small slip of paper of "instructions" (badly translated into English), and 4 seemingly useless - given the non-slip base material - stick-on disks. (If someone can give me a good reason to paste these to the bottom of the pads, I'm listening!) The foam was not in a bag at all.
The foam was in 3-pieces with jigsaw puzzle style dovetails for locking each piece together. There is a notch in the assembled foam for the control box, so it is easy to see how it goes in. You can't assemble them wrong. You insert the foam by unzipping the top of the pad from the bottom. They stay connected at the control box. Note that the zipper seems to become dislodged in shipping, so you may need to work it a bit at the far-open base to get it all the way.
Visually, the assembled pads look massive, though they are really less than 1" bigger than the MadCatz when it is spread out over one. They are pretty nice to stand on, and the 4 main arrows really are raised quite a bit - almost 1/8" over the "baseline". Since I'm a bit heavier than average (I am hoping DDR will help me on that point) I'm concerned that I may eventually leave a permanent dent in the center foam, creating a "well" in the middle of the pad. Does anyone know if replacement foam is available? (On the other hand, I could claim that this is by design - combine DDR with StepAerobics!)
In initial use, the pads seem pretty comfortable and stable - much more than the MadCatz - I trully understand why that class of pads is called "slip'nslide"! The pad's step boxes themselves do not light, but the control box has an LED pattern that lights when you step on any box. Note, though the graphic image on the pad only show Up, Down, Left, Right, UL, UR points, the Lower corner step boxes also appear to have contact sensors, as they will light up the box LEDs.
Well, that's it for my long-winded initial message!

The two pads my friend has lasted about a year... That was with the pads being used on average six hours a day, on heavy 7-9 footer songs the first three months, and then scaling down to about 2 hours a day for the other nine months...
Speaking of pads, by BNS pads just came in... But, no Konamix... *grumbles about having to pay long distance charges to the US in the middle of the day*. But on a positive note, buynshop.com's customer service was excellent... |
ooooh!
me = quite happy

I just noticed that someone was complaining about their DX Extremes not including LPT adapter cables. I forgot to mention in my mini-review that there were two LPT to PS adapters along with the other stuff. |

Could someone please help me? I need a LIGHTWEIGHT mod for my BNS NX pads. I tried putting the circle things on,. but I only had six, and one fell off of one of the pads. I need lightweight because I need to carry my pads back and forth from my room to the living room. No plywood please.
P.S. I do not understand the cozy pad at all. It just looks like your merging your pad with the carpet, which I coudln't do thanks to my moving back and forth. The site doesn't even have instructions anyway, as far as I saw... And it looks horrendously ugly. |

Seriosuly. Half of his posts advertise it for no reason. And darnit Baby Face, yhink about it. No-one is going to care about your horrednously ugly pads if you don't even post instructions on how build them! Why are you recoomending something to me when you can't even explain how to build it. It would be a lot better than those ugly pictures on your site.
P.S. The sad thing is, he hasn't gotten warned once. I got warned for advertising JUST ONCE> He has gotten warned for doing it 15 times. |

No, I warned you for post whoring. Reading helps, I promise.
Enough of the warning discussion, if you think you shouldn't have been warned, read the PM, it has details you may want.
D.J.J. - Is his page actually about the Cozy Pad mod? If so, we can't warn him for advertising. It's only if: the content is bad (those 'click to play' bs online games), the page is bad in any way (porn, music, etc.), if he doesn't supply details, there's not much we can do until he starts spamming it. I saw his thread he created for it though... _________________

I would consider it spam. The site is just a bunch of pictures, with no instructions on how to make it or get your own. I think linking to a site saying "Do the COZYPAD MOD!" and not havbe instructions on hoiw to make it is spamming. |
