OK, I have absolutely NO knowledge of anything like modchips or the like. I want to buy a package from ps2covers.com which includes:
Breaker Pro Disc (x1)
* Slide Card (x1)
* PVC Card - for PS One (x1)
* Spring - for PS original (x1)
* User Manual (x1)
Would I need to buy anything else? From what I picked up, I wouldn't need to buy a fliptop because this comes with a slide card, but I have no idea what a slide card is. So, in summary: 1. Do I need to buy a fliptop? 2.Would I be able to play JP PS and JP PS2 games with this setup? Thanks for your help, I have never bought anything like this before. _________________

A slide card is the ABSOLUTE worst way to play import games. It destroys your PS2, plus you can make your own slide card for free (its jsut a flimsy piece of plastic easily made from a credit card or calling card.) Get a fliptop or a modchip. Also why would you need the spring, unless you plan on getting a game enhancer or flipdisk for your PS1?
Also I no longer recommend PSX-Tech.com . I sent my PS2 off on DECEMBER 22ND and have barely heard about it since. Last email I recieved from him (which was over 2 weeks ago) said he had installed the chip but when the laser wasn't working right he had forgotten about it. Ive sent 2 emails in the p[ast 2 weeks and no response from either. Please use cmcm or somewhere else. _________________

If anybody needs their ps2 modded with magic chips ( I personally think it's the best chip out there) check out my website at http://geocities.com/drega78
Click installation service on the top when you enter the site. You can find refs on me at my guestbook page.
Along with installation, I will throw in any 3 games of your choice. Knowing this is a DDR board, i assume you'll be getting extreme, party collection, and ......
Even if you have a swap magic and one of those cheap crappy fliptop , take a look at my website

OK, now I'm thinking of getting a fliptop with Swap Magic 2.0. The site (www.ps2cover.com) wasn't really clear, so I just want to ask someone who knows: Does it work with import PS1 AND PS2 originals? And would I need anything else to make it work? Thanks for helping a noob out. _________________

yo lunar! Swap magic is only good for DVD games. For most CDR games, it WILL NOT BOOT. That's because it CANNOT load games that are <74 mins. Any game that exceeds that, it will just freeze when you try to boot it.
swap magic also doesn't boot PSX games. Like I said, they are only good for dvds. They work 90% of the time too. I use to have a swap magic and they were really annoying. Now I have magic 3.1 in my ps2 and there's no annoying swapping or fear that I might break my ps2 cuz of the slid card or whatever. I just pop the game in and loads up like a normal game.
check out my site http://geocities.com/drega78 for games and installation service of magic 3.1 on your ps2 =)

No. Swap Magic will not allow you to boot Import PS1 Originals, Backups, or anything Import PS1. _________________

I read on this board that you can use the Gameshark2 PS1 disc to boot imports/copies of PS1 games.
My question is, how do I do this? I've looked all over the forums and can't find a definitive answer.
Do I need a mod chip for this? Can I do it with any PS2?
Thanks. |

You would use the GS2 the same way you would use the swap magic. but instead, goto start game, no code then swap the game at that point |

ps2cover is a great site, just that they come from hong kong, and canadian customs usually intercepts your packages, so it'll take a few wekks. _________________

Well, then, I'm 0 for 2. Can somebody tell me what I would need to get from ps2cover.com (in addition to a flip top) that would let me play PS1 AND PS2 imports (just the originals, I don't care about backups and the like)? I really don't want to go down the modchip route unless absolutely necessary. _________________

Quick Q. Do the Magic 3.1 chips give you instructions on how to install them? Or are you just given the chip and basically told "hey do it yourself!" thanks. |
