Am I the only one who thinks DDR as a sport is a bad thing?
BTW, I am still not going to consider DDR as a sport. It's still just a video game. |

Did anyone else notice in picture 8 of 9 of the picture gallery that the DDR NORWAY shirt the person on the 1P side is wearing bears a logo that is remarkably similar to the DDR FREAK logo? |

And the Newest Sport for 2005 is.................. Bust-A-Move 2 for Neo-Geo!!!
Seriously, is it REALLY a sport? I think of DDR as a game, not a sport. It's not like you have to train for your life to be good at it... It took me 2 months to get to Heavy, only playing roughly 4-5 times a month (don't own any home version).
But, maybe it could work! Who knows? Pfff....Pff... BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! |

If DDR is a sport...
1. Will Nike have to pay Konami to make "DDRequirements" Clothing lines?
2. What will DDR shoes look like?
3. One Corporation (Konami) invented this game, unlike any other sport. That will cause problems. (Liability, added pressure to make 'Bemani' It's own company seperate from Konami itself, Licensing thousands of new songs, etc.)
4. Will there be an Official Governing body to judge how DDR is played?
5. Does this include games like Pump It Up, which actually has MORE pads (thus more activity?) than DDR?
6. UNIFORMS!?!?!?!
there are more qwuesitons I have, but that's all for now. _________________

And watch someone make a cheesy movie out of it..
Oh wait, it's done.. You got served!
I thought there was one more mix to be made, in a recent interview with the creators. Damn, don't have the article on hand right now.

Dance_More wrote: | ...but why are they making it a sport in Norway or all places? |
It's not like someone, somewhere, decided "let's make DDR a sport in... (takes a world map, closes eyes and randomly picks a country) Norway!" In Norway, people are working very hard to promote DDR, and aside from having DDR registered as a sport they have managed to place approximately 50 machines in about a year. I think such dedication to the DDR community deserves a bit more respect than just making fun of DDR as a sport.
I don't think it's stupid to have DDR registered as a sport. Many things that are not really a sport have been turned into one (take karate example, a possibly lethal martial art, how can you call that a sport.. or chess). It all depends on your defenition of a sport. If you can compete in it, and you have even chances based on your physical or mental skill, you can call it a sport.
I also think saying "now I can't play DDR anymore because I hate sports" is a bit shortsighted. If you play DDR, and you like it, why change because someone put a tag saying 'sport' on it.[/quote] |

Good post Halfling!
Although I dont think people will give up DDR at this moment because of Norway making it a official sport, some people make there points. When things get mainstream, the die hards decide to do something else. Just because of the fact that the most people that start something new or are doing something that isnt cummon LIKE doing stuff the mainstream public doesnt do.
Then again, it would be great if DDR becomes more famous and entertainment centres (like cinema's or arcade's) get more DDR. Here in Holland we only have 2 'good' DDR arcade's, one of them a DS1.5, the other one a DDR2nd& 3rd mix... It would be great if there were more, just because then the scene will grow faster...
So, lets all stop whining about this and make DDR more popular then it was ever. And, this doesnt mean we cant disguss any more about the fact if DDR is a sport or not. It only means that it is GOOD for DDR! |

I think the best way to put it would be this:
"We will have to wait and see."
It could be better than everyone thought. Even I'm starting to retract my thoughts, especially when the points of chess/karate being turned into sports, were made (thank you halfling).

This has absolutely nothing to do with the headline you responded to. Please read the FAQ and look around before trying to post again, you'll save yourself a lot of embarrassment. _________________

Chill out pal. Taking a chance or not you still have to obey the forum rules if you want to use their site.
Anyway, making DDR a sport sounds like a great idea to me. And I am glad its getting more publicity. |

No, no...no. No matter what excuse that you use, Pro Westling is an act and nothing more than that so just face it. You can only tell by the fake *ss skits that they have. Boxing is a real sport, why don't you move on to boxing and stop rotting your brain with the poor acting skills the wrestlers have? |
