I'm looking for some help with my Red Octane Ignition 2.0 mat. I've read some things in the 40 some pages of this post, but haven't seen just what I'm looking for:
1. There is some mention of these pads tearing, and someone made mention of putting electrical tape on the bottom of the arrows. Does anyone have a more obvious explination of this (or a picture) or any other way to preserve it. I've had iy < 1 month and I play on normal to heavy and I wear grippy socks (not shoes), but I wouldn't be surprised if a tear appeared in the future. I'm assuming the cover they sell is meant for the flimsy soft mat.
2. I was thinking about getting a second ignition 2.0 pad for playing double (single player, 2 mats) Is there a good way to fasten the 2 without making it permanent. Has anyone tried sewing something on the edges (loops to run a connecting rod through or otherwise) or any kind of velcro type solution for this? I'd prefer not to have a big sheet of plywood involved.
Any help (advice, links, pictures, or otherwise) would be appreciated. Thanks.
DDR Rocks.

What happens is the bottom of the first half of the pad---the part where the foam touches the bottom of the arrows---usually tears apart especially if you play on bare feet.
So to make your red octane last longer you should:
[note: this is for the pads that use foam (bns extreme, red octane, etc)]
1. Wear socks every time you play
2. Buy a pad cover. Trust me, it is worth the money
3. Put electrical tape under the arrows to help prevent tearing
Your pads will last alot longer now... |

Just got my BNS DX Pads.
The buynshop website says they are "about 10 lbs." I E-mailed them and they said they are actually 8 lbs. I got them in the mail and the foam inserts themselves are actually 4.6 lbs. The pad after it is put together is 6.8 lbs. Which really makes sense considering FedEx weighed the box including shipping material at 16 lbs (For 2 pads).
13.6 for the 2 pads and 2.4lbs. for the box and shipping material.
If anyone could weigh their Red Octane 2.0 pads and foam inserts for comparison I am sure it would help future buyers. Anyhow the pads are working great the first day. I will post back in a couple months. By the way I am down to 277lbs. Using DDR and watching what I am eating.
Also they forgot to send me the free LPT port adapter! |

I only have one pad at the moment. It is a generic pad that I modded using bitterpanda's mod. I have danced hard on it and it is beginning to wear down. My new plan is to use the same mod again on two new pads. The mod was cheap and it worked well enough for me. I like this mod better than the $70 redoctane soft pads, so even with a 5 month lifespan I'm satisfied.
Anyway, although I seem to have everything figured out, I'm wondering if there are a few better options. With the bitterpanda mod, would you suggest this pad, or this good ol pad. Also, instead of hardwood floor covering (more correctly referred to as vinyl covering) would this work better? Thanks for the suggestions![/url] |

THIS IS SO EXTRA AWESOME... that i am at a loss of words.
The sam goody at my local mall sell OFFICIAL konami soft pads for $29.99 w00t! (the box is so beautiful, i hug it again)
To top it off, they said they are going to get a shipment of pads every month. no more worrying about pads, especially britney crap beat pads sold at the Gamestop next to sam goody for The laughable price of $20.

Meh. Gamestop sells the Naki DPR2 pads for $20 and they seem to be just as good if not better than the Konami soft (NON DX) style pads. |

Their support is notoriously slow.... Usually takes 3-5 business days for a reply... *grumbles*
I hope they send me the LPT adapter, but I'm not banking on it. _________________

I was wondering, would two BNS Ultra NX pads for 50.00 be a good deal?
And are they a good pad for someone at the 9 foot level?

Do you guys think it would be smart to get the two 2.0 Pads + DDRMax1 deal from this site? Are the pads ever DOA? |

Can someone post pictures of this Ignition 2.0 mod with the electrical tape and whatnot? I'm not really getting what he means by "under the arrows".... Does that mean just put them on the cloth around where the arrows are? Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't really see how that would help.... Eh, either way, help please. |

Just to let everyone know I just find the best soft pad on this site. http://www.ddrgame.com they call it the Super High Density Foam Pad V3.0, it is much better the igination 2.0 pad I had. The Foam is much more dense, and it is alot harder than the igination pad. It also come with a carrying case. It so great now all my friends want me to go to their house to play the game, because I can use the carrying case to bring the pad over to their house.

Has anyone on here had problems with ghost/phantom steps on the Ignition 2.0 pad? I picked one up yesterday at Gamestop and I love the pad. However, I'm getting some really nasty phantom steps on this thing. It's almost always the left arrow that will act like it's being stepped on when I'm on the right arrow for very long. Also, the same has been happening with the up when I hit the down arrow.
If anyone knows if this can be fixed or has had this problem or something, some sort of help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

I was wondeing, would this be a good idea for a cheap mod on my pad?
Simply buy some velcro, tape it to the bottom of my pads and hook it to the carpet: or would it ruin the pad?
Oh, and I just ordered two BNS Ultra-NX pads for 49.95! Can't wait till htye get here!
P.S. I've actually had very good luck with my Madcatz pad. It's lasted for over a year! It just started tearing, and it is getting un responsive. |

Unzip it and open it up. On the inside of the pad, underneath where the arrows are on the top side, tape it up. Provides extra support to the underside of the material. |

If you want some extra protection so you can use shoes, get some of the plastic hardwoon floor runners from home depot and put it over your pad.
They sell them in lengths by the foot and they are stored in rolls. It's kind of like the chair mats that you put on carpet but the hardwood variety has no teeth on the bottom. Ask around and someone should be ale to find it if you can't. At my store it was by the carpet runners and flooring materials.
Should look like this when done:
You can see the two strips of floor cover I used, they are taped together in teh middle so you don't accidently trip on the seam or pull it apart. You can still feel the plexi through the cover, and it should provide extra protection against wear from your shoes.
Or you could just buy one of the pad covers from BNS. |
