|
|
Today, the BBC ran a cover story on DDR's rise in popularity in Europe titled "Playing games on the dance floor" in their Technology column.
The article covers the recent tournament in London and features interviews with our friends at DDR:UK. Music gaming, Japanese culture, and other aspects of music gaming are also mentioned in this excellent article.
There's also a corresponding picture gallery.
Also mentioned in the article: Norway will soon officially register Dance Dance Revolution as a sport, thus finally ending the long-time "DDR as a sport" debate. |

I've always hated sports and now I can't! Oh noes! Though if DDR becomes a mainstream sport (which I doubt it will be) then I'm sure tons of people at school will jump on the bandwagon. With people coming up to me and saying, "Yo dawg I can beat you on that song!" and I say, "What song?" Then he says, "Butterfly beginner beeyatch!" _________________

Sports scholarships for DDR would be hilarious (and I would apply for one if I lived in Bizarro World). |

DDR as a sport.
Good: Would then open up chances to have worldwide competitions and such. Would be hillarious to see scholarships as well. Would also ensure it would not die, as there would have to be many new mixes with new songs. And prob. artists would jump on the bandwagon as well, so you'd see some popular stuff thrown in there more recent than before.
Bad: Anything that gets popular gets corrupted. So pretty much, it would become mainstream to the point where most of us underground nuts would go onto something else. That, and you would see stupidity like never before.
It's just Norway doing this. If it was the whole world though.......

Pro Wrestling is both. It's an act, meaning the storylines are fake. But it's a sport because to really be a good wrestler, you have to be in VERY good shape. If you're some fat slob who can't wrestle, people will take note.
It's also a dangerous sport because I don't know how many people have actually taken some of the blows. As fake as most moves look, it's all in the way it's done. If you or your opponent f*cks up, someone will get seriously hurt.
I know this because I've been involved in the field for awhile here and there. That, and I've got to actually meet some outside of the ring. After they were done... after they had to be carried out for different reasons.
But to keep this on topic, great, now DDR has jocks! Heh. At least they still get girls.

Ugh, yea if it did here... I'd be a jock... I may have to quit ddr just to make sure that doesn't happen. lol.
Konami will probably not be making anymore mixes unless this actually did happen... otherwise... I think extreme and custom songs on SM is as far as we will go (Well aside from pS2s).
sigh... I jumped on the ddr train to late.... then fell off... now Im running to catch up with it. _________________

End the pro-wrestling debate right here right now.
Pro wrestling is NOT a sport. It's a sporting event. Big difference. Let's end it on that note. |

It doesn't matter that DDR is a sport to me cause i'm already an athelete...i'm a cheerleader, i run track, i play field hockey, lacrosse, soccer and volleyball so DDR is just another thing I could add to my sports resume...but why are they making it a sport in Norway or all places? |

I won't be convinced until it becomes an event in the Summer / Winter Olympic Games. |
