I had been thinking about this too, that would be really cool if they released that in a future version. I'd play it... Still need to get a USB-PS converter though. |

There's been some talk about it being online compatable soon. Possibly with the idea of combined user songlists. _________________

I think that if StepMania LAN was once a fesible item that you could trick SM into thinking it's LAN when it's really connected to a central network, like some people did on tricking the GameCube into thinking its LAN. What they did is that they hooked their GCs to their computers then once online they could play games with LAN support online, this is a real thing, and it tricked the GC into thinking it was still LAN. I think since SM LAN was once happening (right?) use this same formula and create a program like the one for GC and try it! Only issue, to play online with the GCs, you need the exact IP address of the other computer you're to play against, you need DSL with faster than 128 KBps or 256 KBps for Kirby (for the GC version) If someone could 'trick' the SM program into thinking it's LAN, ya, it could be done. _________________

I think the only bad part about SM online is that if you don't have the EXACT same DWI or SM then you're hosed because one's off beat from the other and it wouldn't be 'fair' if one was 'different' than the other....although I'd REALLY like to see the producer's best shot at it... _________________

---I already posted this on another part of the forum---
Dual-StepMania
Dual-SM is allows for two computers running a modified version of StepMania to function simultaneously in game play (up to four players) with use of a server. The mod, developed by Joshua Allen and Charles Lohr of University of Maryland Baltimore County, was publicly shown for the first time on January 31st. The system worked flawlessly for hours, details can be found at http://umbc.levelxero.com:24842/ddr/projects.html
Incase that isn't working I have a mirror of it I will try to keep up to date (no promices)
http://cnlohr.net/ddr
If anyone has any questions regarding the system, or suggestions, or if they want more than 4 players please tell us so we can mod up our code.
Also, There is only a Linux-Client Port we have working now and a Windows-Server Port now. Shortly we should have both compiled in both OSes.
Sorry, OSXers, we don't have any way of compiling for you. If anyone gets a windows port of our client working before us please email me with it. Same goes for OSX users. |

If you read my post. The big thing about this is the combined song list feature. Which probably meaning people will have to stream the music. _________________

So, you guys were looking for like an interactive online service sort thing. Do you want something that just rates you against other people on the server? or what... Unfortunately since Stepmania is open soruce there is no way of preventing people from cheating. Expecially in that If I did code out things like autoplay, anyone with knowledge of compiling could just stick it back in and get all AAAA's.
In my project it was very easy to have bth computers having the same songs, that plus as long as the song was the same, the computers stayed in sync.
Do you guys want me to work on developing this idea? if so, what direction?
Right now I am still trying to compile a windows version so that most ppl can try this system out and see what it's like.
The actual reason for the development was to allow more ppl to play DDR at once in a that we were room. We've also been able to play across campus. |

Yeah, it might be hard to figure out the difference between finger players and feet players too...
Bah, just go to the arcade and show your stuff there, no fun winning when you can't see them >.<! _________________

A developer of SM messaged me today. They took the code and I made some changes. I now have a Windows .EXE that can be easily used by anyone. It will be on the site for download.
I also apologize for the downtime. |
