My home built metal DDR pad (Part IV)

My pad is almost done, in total i have worked on it for like 5 hours, i would have it done already but i go to school from 7-1, and i go to work from 2-8 so i have no time at all, hopefully i get a day off this week so i can finish it.

just curious, where can i find instructions to make blue beed mans pad? i saw something about clicking on the links in his sig in one of the first few pages but couldnt find anything... but then again its 12 and im dead tired so i may not be looking hard enough.

the bluebeefman pad is just the riptide pad with a changed contact design. There are no instructions, you'd have to base it on the pictures (for the rest of it, you can follow the riptide instructions.)

hey there mister paladin be a little nicer eh? not everyone comes into this kind of project with knowledge in electronics. so give the guy a break.

anyways yes its quite simple you solder one end of a wire to the controller (open one up and you will understand, its really quite self explanatory) and the other to the pad (weither that be metal sheets, like mine, or some other sort of contact. there should be some form of exposed copper or other metal where the direction buttons would be. solder to those but make sure they dont touch. by dont touch i mean dont solder the controller to its self. you'll see and understand it if you open a controller up. oh and dont use a controller with analog. they are pissy and the analog really gets in the way. i personally used a mad catz controller without analog. its one of the coloured see-through ones with turbo and what not. the contacts are a little smaller but it does better with heat. or atleast thats what i have found.

oh and just as a side note i should be getting my site for my pad up and running within the next week or so. atleast that is the plan. and that is what im hoping to have done.

yeah, i built a bar and attatched it to my pad. I can tell you what you need to do as long as you have a chubby pad thats compatible. I'm using a metal pad. If you dont know how to make a chubby pad, i can also give you instructions. if you want you can email me at [email protected]

he uses plastic tubing instead of foam weatherstripping, and corner braces instead of screws for contacts (although Riptide's updated contact style is about the same now; it uses mending brackets)

look at bluebeefman's pictures and riptide's design if you haven't yet.

Opnions needed on:

#1 would using 2 squares of plexiglass, one 0.09 thick and one 0.26 thick, be sufficient stregnth for an arrow panel ? (I am basing mine off of riptide's design. with the 2 by 4 wood layed flat down)

#2 my friend suggested this. would using,say a sheet of bounce fabric softner somewhere within the pad minimize static electricity? Perhaps on the bottom of the base ?

ok you guys i still dont get this. i have built my pad. (works great by the way). and i still yet to encounter a static electricity problem. so what the hell are you guys doing to your pads? honestly i cant see how your having these problems. if i can play on my pad at -40*C and not have to worry about static then what the hell are you people doing? im even playing on shag carpeting and if that isnt enough for you guys ive done it with socks, shoes, and barefeet. so honestly what are you guys doing?

and as for the strength question. try it if it seems to hold up your good. the way to test it is to get a mock setup with the two plastics ontop of each other. place them over two pieces of something (anything really as long as there is a space between them and the plastic is used to brigde the gap). then step on it and see if it bends to your weight. if your happy with it then i guess its good. though personally i find that any bend is a bad thing.

anyways i hope that helps. still in the process of getting my site up. hopefully it will be soon, eh? good luck people with your pads.

many third party controllers aren't very tolerant to static.

I got my pad soldered and stuff, to make the wires stick to the psx controller better after soldering, should I use duckt tape to tape them on, are there other ways besides solder to make thie stupid thing stick, suggestions would be nice, thanks in advance.

the_stick|: the solder should hold it well enough. I don't know what's wrong. I'd tell you to hold the iron on for a long time, but that'd fry the electronics...

oranges: Patster has a guide on adding incandescent lights. A few people have used LED's in their pads, but there isn't a guide on it. If you go that route, you will have to figure most things out for yourself. Oh, and most people use AC adapters that plug into an electrical socket, rather than batteries.
