My friend kept mentioning it this one time, and I wasn't interested very much. However, the strangest thing happened where I played this stupid little Flash game at MC Hawking's site http://www.mchawking.com/multimedia.php?page_function=videoz
That one Flash game got me started with the whole thing. Shortly thereafter I downloaded a simulator for the PC and played like some kind of addict. About a month later I got a demo disc with DDRMAX on it and played that to no end, regardless of the fact that it had only 4 songs on it. Afterwards, got Dance Dance Revolution and Konamix, and the rest is history.
Nowadays I'm playing DDR Extreme on my slightly modded PS2, playing on heavy. A lot has happened since then... |

My friend's two early-teen daughters introduced me. I took them to an arcade once, and they begged me to try it - and so I eventually had a shot with them. I failed every song
I wasn't hooked after that though. It took another month. I played it a couple times over the next month and saw this guy doing a 10-footer double (probably Max 300). He failed, but I thought, "Cool! Man how is it possible to read the screen that fast?? I want to learn this game..."
I downloaded StepMania and played with the keyboard - then shadowed on the ground with intermittent trips to the arcade. That was around August 2003. Now I'm on 9-footer single, 7-8-footer doubles.

About 2-4 years ago I saw a ton of people watching some guys play DDR at gameworks..and I really wanted to get good!
So..I played a few games...I didn't know you had to hit the arrows at a certain time so I failed A LOT. I still wondered how people got so good..
Of course in December 2002 I found out that they had a game for PS..at that time I bought a PS2 so I bought the game....bought a pad..and played and played...
Year later I am now going onto heavy... |

I got into DDR after I saw a few guys playing PIU. I heard about DDR from one of the workers at the arcade, and a few days later I got DDR USA Mix, DDR Disney Mix, and a Konami soft pad. So, that's how I got into DDR. |

I had read about it in Tips & Tricks magazine, which had a basic guide when it came out on PS. (It also had interviews, one of which was with Jason Ko, aka J-Dogg! (He's the president of DDRFreak, if you didn't know)) I thought it looked interesting. Then, I saw a machine at DisneyQuest. I specifically remember one of the guys saying "Ah, I still can't beat PARANOiA." A month later I saw it at my mall: A beautiful, new 5th mix machine in all it's glory. I played it. I failed. I played it again. I passed Sana Morette. The rest is history. I miss those days... because it was 50 cents for 4 songs! _________________

My first time playing DDR was at Disney Quest. I so sucked at it on my first try. But then the next day I saw it at EB games and bought it. I practiced it at home and I got so good that I had the confidence to go back the arcade and play some more! Ive been a DDR fan since then.

I was kidnapped and pushed onto the Machine...
No I just walked into the arcade near my house and seen this big machine in the corner with Dance Dance Revoultion 5th mix on it, since no one was around I played it once. It had all these titles of various songs some of witch I didn't even know were songs at all... picked one End of the Century and standing there wondering what the arrows ment...
Arrows scroll...
I watched...
more go by...
I stepped on the floor tiles in the direction the arrows went...befor they even got to the top..
Failed after 27 or so arrows went by...
The game restarts to the title screen then to a how to play screen...
Oh you step on them when they get to the top...
Played anouther game this time picking Swing it...27 seconds later failed... I turn to leave when some people jumped on to play next so I watched them jump around... hey the lights blink in in rythem to the scrolling arrows!
Being deaf sucks I didn't know it was a rythem game so I tryed again and now I can beat most of the 9 footers on doubles and some 10s, Sakura and Genome Screams.
¿AL? I got a DDR machine of my own! _________________

My first boyfriend had it at home and he and his friends would play. I really liked the music but I was too shy to try it for myself.
After I moved back home with my parents I saw a machine in our arcade. I watched people play whenever I was passing through, soon I found myself shadowing those that were playing and then one day I just had to get up there and do it myself. _________________

I defy all laws of how people normally start out playing.
I remember my first time being at a King's Dominion. I saw it from the opening of the arcade, while a bunch of people were all around. I thought it looked cool, but no one was playing on it. I decided to check the game out.
I ended up spending 3 dollars on that game, and I never failed a song. (It was a dollar for three songs I think) The only songs I remember playing were Have You Ever Been Mellow, Kung Fu Fighting, and Boom Boom Dollar. I was especially fond of Boom Boom Dollar, and played it until I full comboed it and got an A. (God, that sounds so newbie like. )
Then another person jumped up on the pad, and attempted to make me look bad by selecting Paranoia Rebirth on Maniac. And he ended up failing it. Afterwards came an assortment of excuses from him about how he could full combo that, but there was too much noise around, or a fly flew up his nose, or other things of the sort.
After that, I didn't see a DDR machine until I was coming back from an All-State Band audition with some of my friends. There I played a few times on a Max2, but I don't really remember most of the songs, with the exception of Abyss. This was about a year after my first encounter with the machine, so I still had no clue what I was doing.
Finally, 6 months after the audition, I went to a relative's birthday party at my local arcade, and noticed that they had a machine. Feeling nostalgic, I played Boom Boom Dollar, and a few others, until it was time to go. A few days later, they had upgraded to Extreme, and I started going there more often.
The rest is history... and that's how I started playing DDR.
... I've terribly bored you all, haven't I? |

here is a short story on how i started playing, went to were our machine is at (it was a birthday) looked at it with a funny look, went home and downloaded videos of it and saw some badass players (a-team and other random people) next day went back again and tried it out and sucked at it but i still pushed myself to play it even more and thats it. _________________
