Well, technically, the "ground" wire should be called a circuit breaker, so that's one problem solved for goodluckpineapple, but one piece of advice, mr. apple, the ground-to-directional connections goes like this: Ground touches directional, you get a step. |

*the electrical engineer inside me cringes for a few minutes*
ok, there's two grounds that can be talked about, the analog ground, which is the lead from the playstation, and the earth ground, the ground people use to keep their pad from gaining too much static and blowing out equipment (namely 3rd party controllers) if you are wondering how to set up the earth ground, to protect against static, just spring the extra $5 for an official playstation controller, you'll save money and headaches, without needing that ground (from what i can tell from this thread)... if you are wondering about the playstation ground, clarify your question a little Mr. Apple, and it can be answered. |

I hate to repeat myself i know it is considered rude but well, i can't finish my pad until i get an answer sorry :/
"I recently got some push-buttons from radio shack, to use for X/O/start/select. The thing is, they have 2 spots for wires, positiive and negitive. My question is thus , is the wire that goes from the button to the circut board the positive or negitive one, and what goes on the other end of this button?"
Thanks |

unless your buttons have DIODES in them, you're fine either way.
(Some people really COULD learn basic electronics...) |

I HAVE FINISHED MY PAD, AND IT IS SEXY!!!!!!!!!!!
well admitedly it still needs the arrow graphics but that is besides the point. IT IS DONE AND IT IS SEXY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it works amazingly and it is of my absolute own design. if i have copied any part of anyone else's it is of absolute coincidence, and i am sorry if you feel cheated or feel as though i have bitted you. anyways it is done. IT IS SEXY!!!!!!!!!! anyone has any questions they would like to ask i could lend a hand in some way. well for awhile untill i become bored. but that wont be for awhile so ask now or never be answered.
good luck to the rest of you who are making their own pad by the way! _________________

pictures of your sexy creation? lights? uh... cheese? Price estimate?
*EE inside takes over* Whats the electronics look like, just the buttons, or some neat little intricate circuit? uh... cheese?
*end EE inside, 120Volts AC will do that*
good job, hope its as fun for you in a month as it is now (on mine, the epoxy just decided to unstick to everything... teaches me to be thrifty, hrmph) |

just the buttons my friends. i wasnt willing to risk the possible side effects of lights. anyways i used a mad catz controller for the circuitry part. works well. seems they are not pissy about the whole over heating part. downside is they dont have much room to solder to. ah well it took a little extra work in the sense that i had to be carefully to where i soldered to but all in all it was awsome and it works unbelievably well. oh and for a response to the poxy problem. try using contact cement. i used it to glue the metal to the wood and it holds up well. really well. if done right. read the instructions on the can and you'll know how to do it right. i also didnt go very sparingly on the gluing. too much? possibly but hey its holding together right? right! anyways im going to start working on making myself a website for my pad so that you could all see how its made and what not. as for price.....heh....well to be honest i used alot of wood because it was free and so was the metal....so that brought the price down a lot....but besides that...lets see....$75-$80 CDN....yes i did say Canadian.
by the way i am in the whole agreence with the statement that some of you people could use some basic electronics training. but i guess you need to learn some how...*sigh* ah well i guess thats what people like me who know that kind of stuff are for...now dont get me wrong i dont mean to say that i know everything. i just mean that i know more than some of you.
anyways supper sexy pad! works great! and good luck to the rest of you! _________________

Do any of you have any designs for homebuilt pads that have a D-shell connector (like on a CF) that would connect to mastermind3k's XBOX dance pad control box?? (http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=77963&start=0) I only own an XBOX and want to make a metal pad that shows up as a pad on live......and want to have a homebuilt one.........but am completely clueless! Any help would be greatly appreciated |

I know how. It's really tricky too.
you make a DDR pad based on one of the guides, and then you wire it to the connector.
OMG that's brilliant |

I too am wiring with a Dshell and then just buying a CF control box to save myself the hassle of soddering a circut board. My only concern is that the new contol boxes wint work with this guide, but I am hoping they will. Anyway, here is a really nice guide for dshell wiring. The good guide |

wiring queston?
Does it matter to have the lengths of wires going from the controller/circuit board to each arror wiring schematic the same length? |

what the heck do you mean?
you wire the ground of each arrow to the ground of the playstation controller, and the other side of each arrow to the corresponding arrow on the controller.
please use your brain. |
