Okay sort of off topic but for all you people that are interested in wiring you mat to use external control boxes like the Cobalt Flux cbox and the modded cbox for XBOX I now have a guide on how to wire a mat through a D-Shell connector. My partner hasn't reviewed it yet so it can be a bit difficult to understand but hopefully not too difficult. I will put a revised file soon. Just go to my site www.beaverbytes.com and click D-Shell wiring on the site navigation. Anyway enjoy. biggrin.gif

Just wondering, is there a convertor for this to work with a regular psx output for a controller. Or atleast a way to make a convertor?

You could do that but you would have to get an end where the PSX can plug into. I not exactly sure where to get that. Anyway. I checked redoctane's site and they have a XBOX/PSX dual controller and has memory card slots. I looks pretty slick and it's only like 25 bucks. The only problem is that RO wires their pads through a 15 pin adapter and I don't know how they wire it. Aparently CF does the same thing on their new pad. So its looking like I have some work to do to figure out the wiring diagrams. If I can figure out a wiring diagram you could wire our mats through the 15 pin adapter and use the new control boxes but I gotta get the wiring diagram first. Anway thats just an update of what going on. It seems now they only purpose of doing this now is for people who have the old CF mats and homebuilt mats.

If you can get information from RO as to which foot panels are connected to which pins, it should be easy enough to figure out how to wire up a compatible cable.

On a slightly related topic, I just recently (yesterday) finished by Xbox Cbox for my as-yet-undelivered CF. Still writing the guide, but I have posted my project pics. Skip to page 7 to see the finished box.

Sinistar, you are god. However, for my personal needs, what kind of VGA cable am I supposed to be getting (i.e., is there a Radio Shack model you can link me to or something?) for my other XBOX-CBOX project?

This kind.

It's a little pricey at $25, though. If you're looking to hack the cable up for a beavstir style mod, Best Buy has a 6 foot cable listed at $9.99. Since it's an extension, it has one female end, which isn't any good for connecting a CF to an official control box, but if you cut off the female end and wire that directly into your pad controller, it should (official disclaimer) work fine.

OK SInistar, before I finish my plans to build a shrine in your honor, I just need one more thing:
That cable goes like this:
]-(-)-------------------------(-)-[

Can I cut off the (-) part without affecting the connection?
It just doesn't give me a lot of wire room--- what does it do anyways?

The (-)'s are ferrite. They're put on there to further reduce radio interference. Considering what the cable is going to be used for, I don't think they'd be necessary at all, as the amount of electricity passing through the cable will be at a minimum.

For a fairly in-depth look into their reason for being, see this page.

Well Sin, you do kick a great deal of buttocks---
I got to the hard part of the construction.
See, I have twelve colorful little wires, and no clue as to which goes where. I've been rying a "process of eliminayion" approach, but a wiring gridwould be ininfately easier. A "What color goes where" on that Radio Shack sucker would be shrine worthy. Don't let me down!

I've searched around, but I haven't been able to find a color code chart for VGA cables. Though now I know what the pins on VGA cables are for. E1.gif

If you know somebody with a multimeter, it likely has a continuity checker built into it that you could use, which would be faster than process of elimination.

UPDATE: Check this page. It doesn't have a wire color code, but it does have instructions on figuring out the wires using a home-made continuity checking (battery, light bulb, tape, and a wire). However, process of elimination might be faster than building the continuity checker. E1.gif

Still not getting it frown.gif .
I mean, the basic problem is, is that I have 12 wires, some of which are the same color (just thicker), and I have TWO wires which could very well be the ground wire. Must find wire grid for colors...

if there is a big fat thing that you didn't cut of (or if you did read the next parathesis) then cut it off (or leave it on), because that the wires together and such.

Okay I'm back. If ya'll haven't seen this you may want to check it out. It's easier and probably cheaper than making your own control box. The control box is a dual that hooks up to a PS2 and an XBOX and it looks like this thing has the memory card slots so you can use the headset. The only things to figure out is if this is going to show up as a mat and if the control box works for Cobalt Flux 2 also. If this is all true then I would just forget everything and just buy this. Way easier.

I am new to the forum and I am very suprised that you guys have a lot of dedication for your ddr soft pads and then convert them. I would really like to do that but by following the tutorials can I find it easy, if I have the right parts, to put to together my own hard pad? thanks

People are generally pretty helpful in these forums, so if you run into a snag building your own platform, posting questions in the homemade hard pad threads will usually result in good answers.

I've finished my guide for my "arcade style" control box. The Red Octane dual control box, however, is a far more economical choice. But the guide is here for those who wish to duplicate/modify my efforts.
