After hearing about how all of the other DDR's have been cut up to be sold in the US, how bad is Konami going to butcher DDR Extreme? The Extreme in my arcade is japanize, so it has many, many songs. But when they bring it to the home versoin in the fall, what are they ganna do to that precious game? Thoughts? _________________

I don't know if konami is going to "butcher" the game as you say. Konami doesn't do that deliberately. I think they are going to try to make an excellent game. |

I think the idea that US console games will be the same as JP arcade games. If you compare max and max 2 US to the JP arcade versions you will only see a hand full of similar songs. Mostly Extra stage songs. (ie max 300, candy star, max unlimited kakumei) So its not really Konami butchering a good mix. Its more of a Konami building a game and throwing you a couple of songs from the arcade and recycling a game title. Now if you compare the Arcade Extreme to the home version Extreme JP, you will see the great job they did on that. But then you can see how much the games must be americanized. Not to mention licensing and stuff. |

Actully, you could fit every DDR song on a PS2 Disc. The music files are not that HUGE!!! You just can't have a lot different backgrounds. And it would be $700 so konami could actually profit from it.
And if this is about Console Games, shouldn't be in Console Forums? _________________

there isn't a USA Arcade version of Extreme. the only USA DDR is called DDRUSA.
and think of the USA mixes like this, "it is a new mix, but for some reason, they reused the same title". _________________

extreme may get changed alot for us release(such as downing it to 60 some songs like the others), but that doesn't nessicarly mean its going to be bad. if you look at the us version of DDRMAX for PS2 and compare it to the japanese arcade version of the game, the US PS2 version is so much better. _________________

PS2 has a DVD drive. A DDR machine has a CD ROM drive squirreled away in there.
The reason isn't so much because of capacity as (A) licensing costs a lot and sometimes isn't even possible again and (B) if they did fling every single track ever onto one mix, that would set the bar kinda high for any new mixes they wanted to sell... maybe they will make a Final Edition or something when they decide to ditch the console market, but at the moment it's the arcade market they're ditching. |

they're probably just gonna like put the select few songs that just appeared on Extreme Arcade. So like, if you have all the mixes, you have all the songs. Sucks, I have USA Max 2... _________________

MaxUS and Max2US seem to have established a bit of a pattern. First, Konami just ditches the licensed songs entirely and ends up putting only a few back in. All of the new Konami originals go in, as do the 'boss' stages (in ExtremeUS's case, this will be LoM and DDR Oni). Then, they replace some of hte licensed stuff with some US exclusives, none of which will have steps that warrant a rating above 7 (Sandstorm got an 8, but honestly, it's a 7). Finally, they take a few fan favorites (era and R&P come to mind) and shove em in there to fill space.
It doesn't make for a 'better' or 'worse' mix - just a different one. If you want the Japanese mixes so bad, go get a JPS2 and ExtremeJP. |

The limit isn't because of capacity *at all.* As stated before, DDR arcade machines use CD's; the PS2 can read DVD's. Everything from the arcade could fit on a PS2 disc with a higher bit rate and there'd still be room to spare.
You know how the arcade machines says that the game isn't supposed to be sold outside of Japan? That's cause the majority of the licensed songs are licensed only for use in Japan, hence why so many are cut from the home releases in the US. |

That isnt entirley ture. It has some to do with capacity, DDR isnt run straight off the CD, It also has a cartridge which is more important than the CD, The CD holds mostly minor softwear. |

There's a thread in Console Games for discussion of Extreme US, where people will be happy to squelch your fears of Konami "butchering" Extreme USA. Use it.
