I accually had a chance to try this pad out the other day at Anime Owns You over in Ft. Worth: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3070505995&category=21185

He had just gotten them, but they seemed fairly responsive (they were brand new though). I wonder how long they will last him? If I get one, I plan to mod it right away.

hey all i'm a ddr n00b i'm still in my first week...so bear with me, i was trying to figure out what would be the best home metal pad, the vibration is shaking my apartment, so i thought a metal pad might help, i was thinking with a handle just because i do a lot better in the arcade i saw this

didn't know what you guys thought about durability, i saw a lot of mods, and a lot of talk about how good the CF is, well cya all ddring.

The bar on it sucks, it'll easily break off and the pad doesn't have a sufficient counter-weight for the bar. The pad uses acrylic arrows, so you would have to make sure to buy poly-carbonated plastic and sheet metal for the contacts. I recommend just buying the RO or the CF. The RO uses thin metal, which I found out what it looks like and it is actually pretty good, when I returned their old 3rd party metal pad and complained about it being unresponsiveness, they replaced it, but it was "upgraded" a little (with thin metal instead of foil, and the wires that are soldered to the copper contact were soldered from underneath the copper contact so that they wouldn't rip off).

So far the NEO pads, from what I have been reading are probably one of the better "cheap" pads. If I get it, I will mod it right away using this: http://www.rufus3.com/ddr/mmb.html

Were doing the Korn kids mod, http://www.geocities.com/chris_pruss/DDR/Howto_mod_metalpad.html, were having a problem stripping the lamp wire. What tools do you need to strip the lamp wire completely bare? we bought foil tape instead of metal tape. is that the same? if it's not then what is the section that the metal tape is at The Home Depot or Lowe's? ThX

From what I've read from people who have them, no mod has been nessessary.

Hi , I'm brand new to the community, hope its better than the cs community =x. I have been playing for a couple of months, max 1 and 2 at home. I purchased them at my local GameStop , along with my cheap 20 dollar pad. I played in the arcade for the first times about 3 weeks ago. I love it so much, but I wasn't nearly as good as I am at home , I can do pretty much all the 9 footers on max/max2 with my pad. Along with passing them all I have developed bad soft pads habbits. I have been dragging my foot , say it was a 1/8 th beat combo somthing like up right up , I would do it with all one foot. I found out three weeks ago that this doesn't work in arcade. I really want to get good at ddr so I want to buy a pad. I ask you this , what pad is MOST like the arcade. Not which is the best hardpad, then I would just get cf , which is Most like that arcade. I need to learn to play ddr again the right way, no more drags.
Thanks for your help

Time to read back thru this long thread. But the short version is that you have to mod it for reliabilty. Go back thru this thread, and you will find the answers you seek!

This is an update on the CF for all of you worrying about the v2.0 control boxes, they are fixed, this was posted by the owner of CF:

Posted: Mon Jan 05, 2004 10:47 pm Post subject: Solution for Timing Issues

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everybody,

Problem is fixed down here. Here's a copy of the email we send out for timing issues so you can get yours fixed. Also, make sure you have the problem before you send it out, it should be pretty apparent, don't just send it in because it's fun to send stuff in and all happy.gif

-------------------------------------------------------

To fix the timing issue, we'll need to reprogram your control box with an updated chipcode. Please return your cbox via UPS Ground, FedEx Ground, or USPS Priority Mail to:

Cobalt Flux
4055 S 1610 E
SLC, UT 84124
(Please note that this is not a business address; it is solely for returns)

Include with this a slip of paper containing the following information:
Your Name
Your Address
Your Order#
How much you paid to ship the box back to us

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hope this helped anybody out, I ordered my CF last week biggrin.gif .

Me and a few friends are thinking about getting a few DDR pads shipped over from Lik-Sang, and I wanted to get some comments on this one, to see if they're either bit decent.

http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=238&products_id=573&

And no, we don't have the money for CFs or ROs.

Err, those aren't that great. At least, they don't look that great. But don't matter. You could give it a shot.

Ok im sorry if this question has already been answered somewhere in the 39 other pages of this thread, but i had a specific question for those who have experience with both Cobalt Flux and Redoctane metal pads...

Ok i recently bought a CypherGames metal pad off ebay.... yeah I know, E2.gif ... its good for up to about 7 foot songs, but as you can probabally imagine, it leaves me feeling very unsatisified.... Ill probabally end up trying to mod it (with my limited electronic experience) so if i mess it up, there are no worries... so soon im gonna get a better quality pad, either a RO or CF... but my question to those of you who have had a chance to try them out is, WHICH ONE??

Has anyone here had experience with BOTH of these metal pads, who might be able to tell me if the CF is really worth the extra money when i can get a RO for like 80 bucks less?? Does one lend itself better to freestyles (ie: could i do J-dogg's am-3p routine on it?) E13.gif

any input is appreciated...

FYI everyone...I took of the foil under the arrows on my BNS pad and duct taped some sheet metal to the bottom of the arrow and it works great...So I kinda just made a BNS pad a CF for 200 less....

I looked underneath my arrows on the BNS 2.51 metal pad and it's obviously different from the mymybox pads. I'm not quite sure how to apply the mod to the BNS pad. First off, there's a wire that runs under the actual arrow and another wire attached to the copper thing. Does the wire that runs under the arrow (taped to the arrow I guess) do anything?

The wire that's on the arrow is for the LEDs, you don't need to do ANYTHING to that wire. Just leave that alone and do the mod.

To strip the wire, you're gonna need wire strippers laugh.gif . I spent about 15 minutes trying to strip each wire because I bought something cheaper. But then I just bought wire without the coating on it (don't have to waste time stripping the wire = save lots of time) from Radio Shack for about ten dollars all together. I think there was about 50 ft., which is plenty. Also, I think foil tape would work just the same as metal tape, but I don't think they're exactly the same thing. I just used sheet metal and it worked fine. But if you use sheet metal, first test it for conductivity by taking the two wires on the bottom copper contact and touching one wire somewhere on the surface of the sheet and then placing the other wire somewhere on the sheet. They don't have to be far apart. Just make sure that the button registers when you touch them to the sheet metal. Or you could just take the whole copper contact with the wires still on it and touch it to the sheet metal.
