My eyes are bleeding from reading this forum, I read from 1 - 30 and then started at 73 and went back to around 65. |
Why would you want to have 8 contacts when you could use the controller, push buttons, or a home made controll box?
|
I would at least like the X and O so that I or someone else could play a song that uses six squares instead of the normal four squares.
I can see that using a different control box for the Select and Start would be easier. I just thought that if I was going to put the cost and effort into building a pad that I would like to have one that looked and acted like the softpads.
I have way too many ideas on what I would like to see from the outcome of the pad . With the ideas in my head I will probably end up making three to four different types over the next year or two. |
That idea is good. The push buttons do accomplish that, but don't have the same feel as the soft pads. For that, you'd probably need to (or just for looks ) add a supporting frame on the outter part of the dance pad.
I don't know...well, when you come up with an idea, I and others can try and help you out . Good luck with which ever you choose first

Does anyone know what kind of tubing to get, if used instead of the weatherstripping?
Does anyone know where you can purchase the right kind of open cell weatherstripping?
I still can't find the right weatherstripping and I have checked out most of the local stores here. Not only that, but I cannot find open cell weatherstripping online .
Any help would be appreciated

One idea that I have is not using the weatherstiping but more of a rubber gaskets that will give and bounce back. I know that on my treadmill there is a gasket that looks like what I invision but have to find the part online somewhere |

Does anyone know if you can solder more than one wire to a single spot on an old PS controller? I am adding a "home made" control box to my pad that I want to be able to control left and right on to select songs and such. Do you know if this is possible? I think I would just solder two wires to each of the spots on the controller but i'm not that good with electrical stuff. Thanks. |

So rip it out of your treadmill
Who needs those when you've got DDR |
So true lol
DDR is the ultimate workout. Who needs a boring old tredmill when you have DDR
Peace Out

I started making Patsters Pad about 2 months ago. As you probably know, his site has gone down and I am left a bit confused. Luckilly I think I am at a point I can finish with some other plans or just on my own, but does anyone know if Patster can be reached or if his page just moved. |

No problem, solder away. If your not so good at soldering and don't wan't to do it twice, twist the wires together at the end then solder them as one instead of twice.
Hope that helps.
Peace Out

Ok, I just ordered the lumber and stuff for my new pad. I am going for a totally new diesign here, and over the course of several weeks, am building it with an uncle. It is a new design, will feture a trick bar and 4 arrows. It veries from other pads because the the other 5 pannels will not be covered with metal, but will be solid oak, sort of like a real dance floor. I am doing the wiring similar to a Cobalt Flux that comes with a D-shell connector. However, I do have one question. What are the best types of sensors to use? I browsed through the topic, but it is massivre, and the search feature doesn't pin-point pages. Also, how many sensors per pannel? (1 on each side for a total of 4 sensors per arrow, 2 for 8, ect.) A brand, type or store where purchesed would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!

As far as the sensors go, most peoplo make their own using screws and metal strips as the contacts. I have heard of people using microswitches but aparently they arnt too crash hot. Plus I think it would be hard to adjust the sensitivity of microswitches. And don't they wear out after so many switches? Anyway there are different designes you can look at. There are links to home built pads on page one of this thread and you can have a look at mine at www.geocities.com/xerox_ddr.
Hope I could help.
Peace out

I've been away from this site for a couple months now but you guys can try PM'ing me here at DDRfreak. I have the notification thingy that e-mails me whenever I get a PM. My website changed from attbi.com to comcast.net. Everything is still there at http://home.comcast.net/~patster/home.html |

the type of sensors we use is sheetmetal hitting either other sheetmetal or screws. Microswitches will get absolutely smashed.
And are you SURE you want oak blank panels? If you're going for the real dance floor look, keep in mind that only the most pathetic of fanboys thinks DDR looks like dancing. |

Thanks for your help, xeorex too. Yeah, I am sure I want to go this way. I am looking for an orignal design, and this will sure make it stand out from the others. I have seen the wood, and its going to look pretty nice. |

ok, I got a (stupid) question has anyone had problems with using Lucite? I went to Lowe's and they have Lucite and Lucite-Tuf, and the tuf is like 20.00 more... now I know your saying 'if you have that much money in it, why go for the cheap stuff' ..well beacuse they don't have the size I need. It's going to be a LOT more becuase I'll have to get two or three sheets of the tuf to get enough for the 8 pieces for all the arrows. Otherwise I can get a huge piece of the Lucite for like 30.00 and get all 8 out of it. . . . any suggestions or comments? -thanks _________________

Wow i screwed up big time
I have to cut away at the 2x4 supports to make room for the arrow pannels and the brackets. Also two quick questions. What exact type of weather striping do i need(seen people talking high desinsty and other types) and WHERE is the plexiglass at Home Depot? Asked literally 20 people there(including near the door/window section where i think it would be) and nobody knew where it was _________________
