The bar isn't some magic wand that you can just grab onto and all your woes disappear. Using the bar correctly takes some getting used to, as evidenced by the multiple posters in this thread who have said that they tried using the bar and all it did was screw them up. It's just another play decision, much like mods, that people need to learn to respect.

I feel like i can improve my technique faster if i don't use the bar, which is why I don't use it most of the time. However, i'll be the first one to reach back and grab ahold of that thing if the situation warrants (usually, when I'm playing a 10). People need to respect that. My money, my game. When you pay for my game, that's when i'll play how you want.

Personally i think the only reason people look down on bar usage is so they can stroke their own egos and tell themselves that they're better than some other player when they get worse scores. News flash - the game only counts perfects (and marvelouses), greats, goods, boos, and misses. If i get 30 greats on Paranoia Survivor with the bar, there's absolutely no reason I'm a worse player than someone who gets 50 without the bar. The bottom line - I scored better. As long as 90 million is greater than 85 million, I'm a better DDR player. Using the bar is your choice. If you don't like it, fine. But don't try to impose your opinion on others who think differently. You know those televangelists that almost everyone finds extremely annoying? It's no different.

Respect is the word of the day, people. Respect for speed mods, respect for the bar, respect for however people choose to play the game with their money. Respect the scores; if they're better than yours, stop finding excuses, and improve. Worry about yourself and let everyone else take care of themselves.

I agree with you. I've never used the bar myself, because I never learn to use it. It usualy screws me up anyway. but hey, if I were to learn how to use it, it'll probably improve my skills...or something, so how is that bad?

The only time I ever use the bar is when i lean against it waiting for the first arrows of the song. From the moment I hit the first arrows I dont touch it again during that song. I have tried bar raping before on End of the century heavy, and all it done was make me look stupid and screw me up tbh.

The reason I dont use the bar is because when i started playing ddr I never used it at all. Therefore, when i was moving up and starting to do higher foot ratings, I got used to having my upper body pressure on me. If I would have started using the bar, however, I would have just gotten used to having a lot of weight off my legs, and when it came to eventually not using the bar, i'd have to go back foot ratings and get used to actually having the pressure on me and stuff.

I think that if someone bar rapes, its their desision and they shouldnt be told "It's right" or "Its wrong". Thats probably the reason this arguement has raved on so long, not just in this thread, but in the hundreads of others created by other users who have different opinions. The fact is, if we can just play the way we want to play and respect the way other people choose to play, this arguement would come to an end.

And to think something is completely wrong or completely right is simply childish and rude. Sure there may be times where others who don't give respect by bragging and showing off because of their ego tends to be annoying but hey... to hell with them (Not flamming anyone btw) If they want to burst their lungs full of empty words or over confidence then let them, just ignore them and play to your hearts content.

Most of the best people in Wisconsin (possibly the best in Midwest) use the bar. If it helps them AAA R&P and get 3 greats on Xenon, more power to them. If you really think they have a bigger advantage over you, then use the bar yourself.

Nobody plays DDR to look good anyway. Honestly, does anybody really think that they look GOOD when they're hunched over staring at the screen and PAing? Bar use looks no dumber than your standard PAer's game.

If you want to look good playing DDR, well, you're either a freestyler or you're outta luck.

I never saw myself ever using the bar cause I didn't see how it was done. But around the time flashing ten's were unlocked on our Extreme I gave it a shot (I had beaten every song including 10s before).

At first I sucked at it. I didn't hold it right and it hurt to move certain ways. But now it helps me a lot, and sometimes it hurts me. I tried to bar rape Afronova cause I was tired and it was a disaster. But give me like Max 300 and I can nearly full combo that.

I don't really bar rape unless the song is really hard(a 10 or So Deep) and most people around where I am bar rape too. And double bar rape too. I'm probably the only one who does it anymore but it gets results and I'm not looking down on because of it.

And I like that whole "the bar isn't a magic wand". I was talking with an arcade worker one day about this. She felt that because grabbing the bar all I had to do was move my legs. It takes more work than that.

And besides if you were in a tourney and they allowed bar raping and you didn't do it and the other person did it and beat you would you start having a fit over losing cause he raped the bar. Cause I bet if he won he wouldn't say anything about the bar. He(or she) may even just make fun of bar rapers even more if they just beat one.

The bar is just a tool like mods or anything else.

So really we all should respect one anothers choice on how to play. Raping the bar, 1.5x, Solo, whatever they do.

I guess you're right... I know the bar ain't for me and I really don't care if somebody else does it. I give em a hard time, sure, but it's all in fun and I'm not trying to make them change or thinking they're a worse player because of it.

I think that the only time I ever used the bar was when I was tired at the end of a random all heavy round and the demon on the machine gives me So Deep, Cartoon Heroes and then Maxx Unlimited. I guess I understand the use for PA and everything, but no matter what, to me at least, u will always look really funny doing turning songs like R&P and Exotic Ethnic while raping the bar. If you've never seen somebody do this before, think about it. It's just silly.

i can only remember actually touching the bar during a game once... i was doing a freestyle on breakdown on light as practice and at one point a triped and almost fell off the machine.... i grabbed the bar so i wouldn't land flat on my face. That really would've impressed them

But anyways i never use the bar because i rarely play arcade. I sometimes play at home for up to 4 hours and i just never use it for my songs cause i don't need it. I practiced without them and get B's on songs like Tsugaru on Heavy or Matsuri Japan on Heavy....

My philosophy is quite simple when it comes to such a subject. As long as I put my money into the machine, I will play however I want. I always have at least one hand on the bar. To anybody that has a problem, I tell them to start paying for my games and I'll play how they want me to play.

To the person who throws pennies at people who use the bar (or anybody who has, not intended to the original poster only)--if anybody ever threw anything at me for something as stupid as using a bar during an arcade game, I would seriously strangle him/her. Can using a bar during a video game really piss people off this much? In my eyes, this seems very pathetic.

the bar is just so you know when your going to fall backward and to keep drunk people away from your B-hind. i have a feeling the first time i decide to bar whore, it will deploy an airbag and set off an alarm, sending some paramedics over just to get shouted at "WAHT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?! bar whoring is for EMERGENCYS only!!" that would be cool...
