Today, while looking up some Bemani related things, I found this awesome creation of Konami's - Bemani Pocket. I can't believe they aren't more popular...look at that, how can you not play it?

Seriously though, does anyone happen to own one of these? I was wondering a few things about them..:

1. Is it really hard to play? How big is it? If anyone has any pictures, they would be greatly appreciated.

2. Is it possible to play in the car or anyplace sitting down without a surface to put it on? I would assume you couldn't hold it like a gameboy, because you don't play bemani with your thumbs, but you would need both hands too...

3. If I go play at the arcade, will Bemani Pocket help, or will it just feel way too huge? How's the transition?

4. Where is a good place to buy one? What's a good price? Overall, is it worth it?

Thanks in advance...sorry I asked so many questions riiight.gif [/img]

I tried getting one of those back on eBay some several months ago. It turned into this bidding battle between myself and this other guy.

By the end, I'd given up and he had to pay about $70 for it, not including shipping and handling charges from Japan. In retrospect, I laugh at him for dishing out that much and am glad I didn't.

I have the Beatmania ones Tokimeki Memorial 2 and Love Stories. They are both quite fun, and completely handheld, you won't need a table or anything, unless you want to be all 1337 and see if you can pass everything 1 handed on it (in which I did happy.gif). They are quite small, ::looks for comparison around room for you to relate:: a wallet (still closed) is about the size of it.
The sound is about the same as a gameboy's ddr, so they aren't horrid, but not that good. I think of it this way, when I am sitting in a car, or waiting somewhere it doesn't matter to me because at least I am playing Beatmania. They come with a set of headphones and they help a lot. Also I think that Love Stories is one of the only games in the Bemani series to contain an Ayumi Hamasaki song, Vouge. Funny how the little handhelds get all the crazy licensed songs from big name j-pop artists, but not so much on the actual games. Any more questions about them just PM me or reply, or something

Thanks for answering the questions...aww I really want one of these now riiight.gif

I was looking into "Love Stories", I think this is definately the one I want, if only for Romansu no Kamisama and Vouge. Where did you get one of these, and what's a fair price?

Also, do they all come with headphones? I found a picture of the Love Stories package, and I'm not seeing the headphones...

Gentlemen, behold:

MTV Tracktrix

I love melting people's brains with that photo. If you're wondering, the five "knobs" are the buttons.

Love Stories rocked, it was my fav. out of the 2. Romansu no Kamisama was the final song, plus the hardest. Too my surprise my favorite songs on it where the random japanese titled songs that I had no idea what they were. It has the headphones, I know that, I am too lazy to find the boxes to say exactly where, but they come in those packages and the headphones are in there.
Now where for fair prices, that is the tough one, I lucked out on an auction from some import store that went out of business and were selling all their games on E-bay and I bought the both for $40 with shipping. If I remember correctly they are $50 on Toys' N Joys, not worth that price. Keep a look out on Ebay and you might get a good deal.

Also David, is that MTV want to be Beatmania thing any good? I might pick one up for novelty reasons if it is worth it.

It's charming, in a weird sort of way. It's only got 3 songs, and the controls are a little awkward, but I fool around with it every now and then when I'm bored. If you find another place selling them, fill us all in. This is the only one I've ever seen, and it was at a discount department store (Value City.) It was only $5, so I couldn't resist.

I have the Pop'n Music Bemani Pocket (which is fucking rare I found out right after purchase) and it's hella fun. Only complaint is that it doesn't have it's own independant speaker, you need headphones, but aside from that it's ALOT of fun.

I don't know, I think that's what I was asking riiight.gif

I saw one on ebay a few weeks ago, just barely missed it (got sold for about $30 in the end...).

Also, if you live in New England, there's an import store called Tokyo Game Action in Rhode Island that sells them.

Yep, TGA sells Beatmania Pocket ^__^

Although I haven't seen the Hello Kitty version yet E10.gif

I wanna pick the new version up, but I think someone just snagged it. Plus BM Pocket is insanely hard. I mean on a regular BM controller the fingerings are pretty easy, but try doing all those insane keys with just your thumbs erm.gif

*bumps topic from the dead*

For Christmas, I got a "Dear Daniel Dance Dance Revolution" (daniel is hello kitty's boyfriend for those of you who aren't obsessed with everything cute), because Korea hates me and wouldn't send Love Stories. Oh well, DDDDR is awesome, despite being insanely easy.

I have one more (hopefully the last riiight.gif ) question about it though: How do you turn it back on? After leaving it on for a while, it seems to turn itself off (Seriously, is it THAT hard to make a switch erm.gif ), and if I randomly hit the keys enough, it comes back on. Is there some actual combination of keys to turn it back on? From what I could make out of the instructions, they don't say so.

DJP, is Pop'n Music any good, gamewise? It seems like one of the older ones, I'm I'm not sure if it's worth picking up. Any good songs on it?

Was there ever a straight-up Pop'n Pocket, or do you still have to have a GameBoy or Cel-phone for it? I have Pop'n GB, but that version sorta sucks. And I don't wanna get a JP cel-phone just to try that version...
