Okay...I just typed this post and it got deleted....ah great frust.gif .

Open cell weatherstripping is what you would use. Where did you buy it? E19.gif

If you are building a Riptide version dance pad, then there would be a piece of sheet metal glued to the top of the acrylic, that would take a lot of the beating. Also, the thickness of the acrylic is about 1/2 of an inch! That's about the size of the arcades'. You'd have to try and break it to actually break it blink.gif .

Acrylic will break anyways.

You should have sprung for lexan the first time.

Acrylic is a generic name. Lexan is a brand name. Just like there is lucite, plexi glass, etc. They are all arcylic, just treated differently, and with a brand name.

YOu can think of it as coke too, there is coke from coca-cola, safeway brand coke, shasta cola, etc.

That's not quite right.

Acrylic and polycarbonate are both plastics, but they are different types.

Lexan is a brand name for a polycarbonate material. It's not acrylic.

Acrylic is better known by the brand names; Plexiglas, Lucite, or Acrylite while polycarbonate is better known as; Lexan, Makrolon or Tuffak.

Polycarbonate is by far the better material to use when building a pad. It's the stuff they make bulletproof windows out of.

When I was price comparing for my pad, I found that Tuffak was a bit cheaper than Lexan. I can't find the link to the place I bought it from, but if I do I'll post it.

OK now my base is done riiight.gif

Now here is the thing, im doing Riptides design as you see, but the 2" braces sit higher than rest of the pad.

Now as im typing this and see that i was supposed to use 1" plywood instead of .5" plywood like the homebuilt pad design. Any easy ways to fix this or am i screwed??? Also which way should i go for the step pads? Im understand how Riptides works, but the homebuilt pad one has me somewhat confused as to how it registers a hit disturb.gif

The ddrhomepad registers a step via the two big buttocks sheets of sheet metal underneath each arrow :-) A wire is soldered to the one on the bottom (attached to the base), and one to the one attached to the "floating" arrow. When they touch, the circuit is closed.

i have finished the base of my pad, the little wood corner triangles, the solid panels and i am cutting the plexiglass soon. i am curently wiring the contact system together using the mending bracket design by riptide. i was wondering if anyone has used this yet and had any problems with it. also, i screwed the mending brackets down with drywall screws that riptide used to make the old contact system where the screws were the contacts. they are not flush with the top of the mending brackets. do they need to be? or will the tops of the screws make the contact with the sheet metal pieces on the bottom of the plexiglass?

thanks,

Man i guess im screwed on all fronts. I did a half and half design using Riptides base but only 1/2" plywood so there isnt enough room for the braces to fit flush with the rest of the pad. I also bought 1/2" weather striping instead of 1/4" so i messed up there too. I can get 1/4" weather striping but would the 1/2" stuff work? What other kinds of problems am i looking at here and some ideas on how to fix them would be great riiight.gif

Ermm.... for the soldering part of the project.... Is it EXACTLY the same for an X-Box controller or should I just go out and buy a PSX or PS2 controller and snip off the end and re-wire it so it will fit the X-Box plug in.... O_o"

ok, im not quite sure what you're saying, but if my guess is right, i should reply, then ask quesitons.

the soldering, if you wanted to make an Xbox version that registered as a controller, would be just about the same, just make sure you solder to the right button spots for the box to register it right.

about what you are talking about for the rewiring to fit an xbox plug, the answer is NO!!! the Xbox communicates through a high speed transfer (USB to be precise) and the playstation uses different voltages, clock speeds, transfer methods... shoving a playstation controller into an xbox would be about as smart as sticking a fork in an electrical outlet...

I bought regular plexiglass and I can't break it, even if I stomp on it as hard as I can.

Heh I ment fray the end and twist a PS2 controller arround the end so it will fit perfectly into it... But if your sure it will fry mah X-Box then...ill just stay away from that.. heh.. O_o' ... and instead of Silver...I'm using white biggrin.gif heh I though it would look cool.... Gotta get a picture of it once its done... Iv not even started on the insulating part yet... heh... For riptide's pad design, when screwing the brackets into the small wooden triangles, which screws should be used? is it the screws which came with the brackets or the sheet metal screws he reccomends for the whole project? thanks

It's the pan head phillips sheet metal screws. Though that's only for cosmetic reasons. You'll want to use screws that are long enough to get down through the triangles to the actual structure of the pad, otherwise they may be too weak.

well i dont live in canada but i think i got some ideas. im assuming your making DDRHOMEPADS design, on one of his pics (i think the last 3) there should be a link for the stanley brackets. and if that fails try an online store like homedepot.com or something.

my girlfriend and i are substituting corner brackets with door hinges. we just cut off the hinge part and now we just have a flat sheet of metal that has 3 screw holes.. that will cover over the plexi to keep it in place. it won't look very pretty but it will work E1.gif
