I'm certainly not tall enough to do that. E10.gif

PPP really is a pretty cool game.

Yes, it's easy to hit the arrows in the arcade on para mode. That's because the timing was made incredibly forgiving in that mode to account for people that have different heights, and thus would hit the sensors earlier/later when doing the routine. So if you are doing anything but the routine in para mode, you aren't really playing the game.

Freestyle mode is a bit misunderstood. It has no official para for each level. What you are supposed to do is *make your own para* that fits the arrows. That's what freestyle is supposed to be like.

Of course, there's nothing stopping you from using different sorts of dance moves to hit the arrows, or just going on a hand waving fest.

Yes, the game would seriously bomb in the US if it kept its theme and name. But there are plenty of other dance styles such as (god forbid) raving that that arcade setup could track, so if it was themed differently, perhaps a US release could work?

Yeah I would have said the same to DDR too. Who would have thought that a game that you play stepping on arrows with your feet would be so successful in the U.S.? It's weird, people just have to give the game a chance and play it before dissing and hating it.

I was looking on a lot of past articles about PPP and everbody seemed to love the game. They all enjoyed just freestyling with their hands and doing whatever they wanted to. Also many of the reviewers found about the routines and went exstatic over the game. Why did it become hated so much, probably because of the color but more so because people judged it before actually playing it. Yeah sure waving your arms is easy but peforming a routine, creating a routine, or truely freestyling and not just hitting arrows is the true fun behind the game.

Yeah, I dunno. PPP does indeed have a fruit connotation and it gets old kind of quick, but it's still cool. It seems that it's more popular here in New England than it is in most other parts of the country. I dunno why.

...I still haven't played the game yet, because I'm afraid of looking like a n00b. (Wait a minute...) But I was curious, how much maintenance does a PPP machine need? i.e., how often do the sensors on a machine have to be replaced? And what might be a good first song for me to study before I royally embarrass myself this weekend?

I heard that it doesn't need much maintenece because the game is just sensors no actual buttons like DDR or BM. The sensors do require cleaning everyonce in a while, from dust accumluation, but I think that would be pretty much it. The only time a sensor would need to be replaced, and that would be very difficult because the lack of extra sensors, is if one was hit so hard that it doesn't function anymore or there is just something wrong with it in general. The machine acts pretty much like a DMX machine so whatever is required from that probably will apply to a PPP machine.

A song to study, hmm...
If you can get access to the videos a good one to start out with is Ale' Japan. It's easy and you'll have fun learning it. Don't worry about looking like a noob, remember many people don't even know about the game or haven't even tried it yet so you'll be one step ahead and more experienced than many other arcade goers.

I brought mine to a new years eve party... it was a hit. Druken Para Para was interesting to watch. My friends are all about the technical side of PP. They're like "Para Para mode is weak." However they don't understand that the point of it is to do the routine.

well para para paradise is soon going to work in in stepmaina. i dont like how the autogen is going to work. i have heard its just going to take the 4 arrows and shift them left and right... and its also a real shame that there is no work being done on pc drivers for the para para controller. makes me feal that the game is dead...

out where i live there are no para para paradise arcade machenes. the only one i have ever seen was at the anime convention Sakura con.

but yah this thread should be a stickey

A US version might be interesting if they made it compatible with the Eyetoy. In fact there is a mini-game that comes with the Eyetoy that is played very much like PPP. Add in brand new songs and keep 2 player support and I'm sold.

Didn't they give up on making drivers so the PSX USB controller would work? I heard that there is a possibility that the DreamCast controllers with a PC adapter could work!
