|
|
So, I'm sitting around last night, browsing through some old CDs that I backed up stuff with, and I found my old DWI Course Creator.
I re-installed MSVB, and started poking around with it.
I realized that I had something really good going here, and I should bring it back. So, I started working on it last night.
For those of you who have never heard of it, I created a "DDR Course Creator" (for use with Simulators of course) utility.
It's a small program used mostly for DWI (next release, I'll implement support for Stepmania and their masses of modifiers ) to create courses using a visual interface, instead of having to type out all those tedious commands for lives, mods, difficulty, the song itself, etc.
It's an amazingly robust program. And I've started developing it once again.
For those of you who want a rough preview of how it used to be may download the old version (1.2.1) here.
If you'd rather see what it works like, and wait for later releases, you may view this (horrible horrible) screenshot by clicking here.
I know the interface looks like total crap, but I took that picture right in the middle of moving things around.
Give me a day or so, and I'll do my best to sleekify it (but I'm not promising anything ).
Notes:
I sent SimWolf an e-mail last night asking if Beginner is supported yet (I haven't played DWI in SOOO long, and I don't have any DWIs with Beginner steps to test myself), so the next release is not going to be out until SimWolf supports Beginner.
If he does support beginner, let me know (and prove it, please, contact me for details), and I'll finish this off as possible.
Please don't say 'this program sucks, it doesn't support stepmania'.
I realize the majority of sim players are now on Stepmania, and that is why I am writing support so you will not be left out.
Next release, I also plan to let people create the DWI 'Extra Stage' and 'One More Extra Stage' course files, just to make things easier on you, the user, of course.
I need to implement the ability to Open and edit existing CRS files... I'll get to that some day .
I want to make this thing look really nice, and work really well, so I'll keep working at it.

So here's a question.
Would anybody like to BETA test for me?
When I first made this program, I had quick access to a decent computer that can run either SM or DWI fairly quickly.
As events have turned, I have two computers, but both of them are rediculous when it comes to power and ability.
And with the flashy graphic-ness of Stepmania, it would be all to tedious to test that aspect myself.
So here's the deal.
You wanna BETA test this? Reply here (or PM me).
I need someone who I can keep in contact with easily and quickly.
Anyone who has masses of songs, and wants to make masses of courses to complement their archive .
Overall, just someone who wants to have fun with it. And won't cry and scream if I mess something up .
Thanks. _________________

Sure, I will beta-test. I have nothing to do this week and I always wanted to make some courses.
And, I will make sure I make back-ups of my simfiles before messing around. |

While I would never actually say anything against backing up files, it's not totally necessary, because all this program does (for now) is simply read the contents. There is no where specified where it writes anything. Except the final .crs file of course .
So, for those of you who want to try it out. Give my initial version a shot (see first post), and then I'll be either contacting you, or throwing ver.1.3 in here soon.
I hope SimWolf supports beginner soon. It'd make things SOOO much easier for me. (Does DWI already support beginner?) _________________

That did work?
I'd think the first line would have caused some issues. An empty mod string...
(for example, \Max Eternity:MANIAC:; there shouldn't be a colon if there were no mods...)
Just something to add to the list of fixes .
Then again...
If it's not broken then don't try to fix it . _________________

There is one thing I don't like about this program. When I mess up on something real small, it crashes and I get an error, and I have to start over. Maybe a tutorial or something to change that? |

Can you give me a few more details?
Like what you did to cause the error, what error number, error message, etc. etc.
I know there's this annoying 424 error, I can't reproduce it and I have no idea why it's happening.
But yea, any bug reports, take as much information down as possible, and give it to me.
I may be setting up a domain for this soon, I think sourceforge is a little bit over the top .
Pull all the traffic outta this thread and on to my own turf .
But that won't happen unless this really takes off.
So, in closing. I'm nearing 1.3's completion, and I may hack in a little 'DWI Mode' and 'Stepmania' Mode switcher, and just temporarily remove Beginner from DWI's Mode for now or something.
Who knows, we'll see. _________________
