diekatz, you should be able to build a SOLO pad without much problem. The important thing is you'll have to use corner brackets with wood triangle wood pieces underneath. It should be fine, then.

Thanks, that helps alot, but im still wondering on how to attach the braces together, or if i should just put a small seperator between the buttons,
or maybe i should just weld them together, so they go all the way around the middle section |

It's been about ohhhhhhh.....3 days and i have yet to get the plexi/brackets in properly. My question is...Does the 3/4 wood corners fill the entire bracket or to just past the screw holes and then i get the plexi cut as close as possible, being just under the brackets lip or what im getting frustrated. PLEASE help
oh and what do i do with the plexi corners, i dont see room for them under the bracket.

It fits just past the screw holes for the 3/4" plywood. Then you would cut the plexi with a little room for it to move.

For the videos, I do not know of any place that has mirror sites. Maybe when I get time and the cash, I could send a CD with the videos  . That's the only thing that I can think of at this time.

Well, it looks like since no one, and I mean no one, has the Riptide videos, and I'm growing short on time (just a couple of weeks to do project) I'm going to be doing ddrhomepad's pad now.
Oh well, I hear that he's still using the pad he built way back when, so hopefully it's just as good if not better than riptides. |

Ok, someone, one of you, has GOT to have these videos! 
I'm going to home depot tonight to get the materials that was listed on the site, and I've searched througha bout 20+ pages IMing random people, and no one can get them to me. If anyone has access to these (the reason I need them so much is that his "old" step by step instructions on his website are pretty confusing, and there are some areas that aren't clear, which the videos would probably clear up), please IM me at ItsAJackal and let me know. If someone put out a torrent I'd be glad to help seed it most of the time. I have poopy bandwidth from now until the 5th, but after that I'm on a massive college connection. I just can't upload more that 2,000,000,000 bytes per day or my connection gets blocked.
btw- to someone that has the video files, what are the sizes of each one, I think one or two of mine may be cut off at the end, I'm not sure. If I can verify that mine are complete I suppose I could set up a torrent, but it would start out quite slowly for a while. I'm not positive I could do it, since I've never made a torrent file before, but I assume it's not difficult at all. |

Bit Torrent is an application thingy for distributing files. Basically, one person has the file makes a torrent file for it. People get the torrent file which starts them downloading from the original dude (or dudette). As they download it in little chunks, the parts they've finished downloading are available to be uploaded. So as time goes by you connect to tons of people who each have part of the whole file and you can get all the bits from lots of people.
...that maybe almost kind of made a bit of sense...
But in any case, it kicks buttocks as long as people are willing to continue sharing the file after they finish their download of it.

First off i hope you forgive me for not reading all 60 pages of this thread in case any of these questions are repeated, I did read the first 3 and last 3 pages first.
I guess my main questions are as follows:
1.Is it possible to use the wiring from a old soft-pad i have insteed of using a play station controller?
2.Has anyone gotten thier pad to light up the arrows when pressed? or even just like sotpad's, have something on the pad light up when any arrow is hit?
3.Neither of the 2 main pad designs i have seen have an X button on the pad. Is there any reason for this? It would seam to me that the functionality of not having to play with a controller after everysong would outwiegh the cosmetic advantage of being true to the arcade pad.
4.Is it possible to add the back bar to either one of these designs? I still need that sucker for the hard songs

1) Yes it is possible, though I do not know how to do it. There has been talk about it, but it's in the middle of this forum 
2) People have gotten their pad to light up when you step on the arrow. It's just of a matter of how to impliment the contact for the lights. Then there is the ciruits and how to power the lights and such....Patster has a document written up on how to add lights to his design.
3) Both major dance pad designs, ddrhomepad & Riptide, have the X button. Ddrhomepad uses the controller soldered to for the X button, so you basically use the controller for selecting, while the dance pad is for navigating and playing. For Riptide, he has soldered to push buttons for the X and I believe the triangle. This is so you do not need to use the controller at all and can safely mount it inside the dance pad.
So, you don't see it right away, but you do have the X button for those designs.
4) I know you could add a trick bar to Riptides design and Patsters, though I'm not too sure about ddrhomepad's. His design is so thin that it may not be able to support the trick bar. But I'm sure it could be done

My files are all approximately the same sizes, the only one that is significantly different is #2, mine is only about 96 MB. I'll need to get a complete version of #2 before setting up a torrent, and unfortunately I'm going to be out of town beginning in about 4 hours until tuesday evening. Once I'm back I can try to figure this all out and get the torrent started. I'm not sure if there's really enough demand for the files for the torrent to work well, but we'll see. |

Which homebuilt pad is the closest in size and distance between arrows to the actual arcade game pad? I want to get used to the dimensions of the arcade pad at home.

Then build it that way.
33 x 33 in, 11 x 11 in per square.
Personally, what I did was get a piece of plywood and just screw the panels on, kept up with washers. By the way, don't make the mistake I did. Use either solid wire or 18 AWG stranded. |

| For my pad, i have already bought open and closed cell weather stripping, however i am unsure of which kind to use. the closed cell seems rather hard to compress while the open cell is very easy to compress but may cause the acrylic to break (stomping on the screw contacts underneath) which one should i use? thanks |

Acrylic will break anyways.
You should have sprung for lexan the first time. |
