this is possibly the best music game to vary away from the linear (but legendary) bemani style button pushing. but ill get to the game mechanics later.
Well, the game is very.. very japanese, and when you play it, it screams crazy anime style story. Along with that are the anime style characters, but rendered nicely in 3D. The storyline is simple, U-1 is a normal guy, then he finds out he is destined to wield the magic gitaroo (a wild electric guitar) you use the gitaroo to do battle, and you have to save the planet gitaroo along with the universe by fighting WIERD bosses, (WIERD).
Heres where the fun is, the gameplay. there are in basic 2 modes of play during a battle, attack and guard. in attack theres a line that comes toward a dot in the center, when it hits you have to follow the line with the analog stick and also hit it with circle, this comes in many challenging forms. guard is the 4 buttons on your controller, they float down to the center, (thats where the ddr button mashing comes in).
The music is FANTASTIC, songs ranging from Rock, Jpop, Reggae, blues, neo classical metal, this game is packed with awesome songs!
you can never really understand it till you play it, its very rare....in fact i cant find it (really wanted it for christmas) but i found it at block buster collecting dust, i must have beaten it 30 times within those 7 days lol. yeah thats my only gripe, if your a music game genius, or you play guitar and know alot of these soloing riffs it makes it easier.
A+ great game. anyone else like it? _________________

I've never played it. BUT NOW I MUST! I've read reviews saying that it was horrible. Until one fateful day when a PSM magazine had best games that weren't too popular. Guitaroo man was on there. There were totally going gaga about it. I almost drooled...
But alas, I can't find it. I MUST! _________________

Gitaroo Man is awesome. I just got it back from a friend who had been borrowing it for quite some time now.
I bought it months ago at Toys'R'Us for $20.
And I do mean, MONTHS ago. Like, May or June this year.
I agree with DDRkrazy. You can do your best to explain it, but without all the flashy images and such, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
This game totally rocks. Definately the 'best kept secret' of the music catagory for PS2 games.
Mr. Mosquito comes in a close second. Obviously not a music game though .
Good game. _________________

well being the proud owner of jason's game...
I enjoyed the time i had with the game, The game was challenging (althought i could never make it past the flying-o's on master ) yet very very fun! The only person i knew who beat the whole game is my little brother.
Maybe,,i should've picked up a copy at work when i saw it there..for like $10..plus my discount so probably $8 ( not sure if that was the actuall price, saw it a long time ago)
Anyways, i would really like to see a sequel to this game.. _________________

*looks at soundtrack wich is at his friend's house*
Yay
I love this game, ALOT. My friend has it tho, I need to find this game and rez. Without a doubt one of the most fun and awesome games ever, I think stage 3 or 4(the JPOPey song with the flying hamburgers ), the bones level and the last are by far the best levels. |

The Flying-O's (Song Title: Flyin' To Your Heart) are stage 3. That song is my absolute favorite as well. Rediculously fun. _________________

yeah! And the dodging part in that level is fun too. I just remembered, it's number 4 on the soundtrack because the intro is number one. |

This is true. I forgot about the title theme and all that. Yep, track 4 on the OST, level 3 in the game . _________________

I though that was level 2...
Err...spoilers, I guess?
I mean, I remember Panpeus, Flying-O's, Mojo King Bee, Shark dodging stage, Shark fighting stage, serenading Kirah, Sambone Trio, Gregorio Wilhelm III, Kirah/what's his face.
But that adds up to 9 stages, and I could have sworn there were 10. But, for the life of me, I can't remember what's missing. If only my damned PS2 was working...
Did the training stage count as a stage? |

I say the training stage counted, since it was part of game mode.
1. Training
2. Panpeus (Twisted Reality)
3. Flying-O (Flyin' To Your Heart)
4. Mojo King Bee (Bee Jam Blues)
5. Ben-K (VOID) (Dodging Only)
6. Ben-K ('Nuff Respect) (Normal Play, attack+guard/etc)
7. Kirah (The Legendary Theme ~Acoustic~) (Serenade stage - all attack, no dodging)
8. Sanbone Trio (Born To Be Bone)
9. Gregorio III (Tainted Lovers)
10. Kirah (overpass - when the story makes you refuse to play it + The Legendary theme - battle vs. Zowie, no dodging (I think))
11. Zowie (Resurrection) _________________

The be dodging, yo. That's my favorite battle to do, but Bad To The Bone is still the best song. It is INSANELY FUN on Master mode _________________

I just played through it.
Overpass (the first part with Kirah) is a normal battle.
After U-1 stops and the story happens, The Legendary Theme has Charge, Battle, and Final.
However, there is no dodging during the Legendary Theme . _________________

Man you have the best taste in games. I love Gitaroo Man and Mr. Mosquito, defienately the some of the best unknown games for the PS2.
Anyway has anybody beaten Master Mode yet? I haven't been able to bee the Sambone Trio on Master mode yet, that song is insane at that level.
My favorite song is the Flying O's song and the Legendary Theme. I don't know which version I like better acoustic or electric guitar. |
