Here's a little something that I've been wondering about. What are some of your random quirks or habits you have when playing DDR? For example, I'll give you mine.

When I'm doing EotC, during the one line when the guy says "Who will be left to conquer it all?" I scream out "I will!" and at the end of the song I yell "End of the Century" along with the guy.

In Superstar, I always swing my shoulders like crazy in the little scratching section where you start off with U R U R U D going until the verse starts again. Don't mean to, don't know why... it just happens.

I strike a random karate sorta pose during the opening freeze in Tsugaru.

I have a tendency to stop moving altogether in between steps on easier songs, and on any song that stops mid-song.

In Healing Vision (Angelic Mix), I step on the first UR air and bounce every time there's a bass drum hit.

I bow to the machine, to anybody I'm dancing with, and anybody who's watching me before and after every Oriental-themed song (Matsuri Japan, Tsugaru etc.) That one gets me a lotta looks. riiight.gif

Just wondering if I'm the only one with random quirks like that...

I have a weird arm-swinging habit when I play Jet World, I tend to do a semi-circle near the end of Spin the disc, and I play Sexy Planet (From Nonstop Megamix) like it's going out of style.

Oh yeah, and head-banging Daikenkai > j00

Moving my hands in a karate chop fashion during the less frantic parts (kinda like I'm dancing but I do it involuntarily). When I was a n00b, people told me I looked like Frankenstein because I never moved my shoulders. So now I try to be as expressive as possible without embarrassing myself.

Spin The Disc: Last freeze arrow, I always use the bar to push off and spin around in a 360 while I hold that freeze.

Healing Vision: As the song starts playing and as the U R arrows travel up the screen I always act like I am injured, like hobbling around the pad holding my sides. And right during the freeze before the last stretch I always jump as high as I can and land on the arrows right as it starts up again.

Burning Heat: During a climax of the song as the beat kinda goes '1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3' I nod my head really hard along with the beat. No idea why...

Kakumei: The beginning of the song as the arrows get slower and slower, I sort of keep lowering my body, and barely tapping the arrows as quiet as possible, and then when the song starts up again I bolt up into normal position and play.

Tsugaru: At the freeze in the beginning of the song I put my hands together and bow to the machine. If I am playing with someone I bow to them instead.

Lets Groove: As much as I don't know how to do disco dance, I try to anyways. My spins always end up in me losing my combo.

era (nostalmix): I always hand slap that last arrow at the end

Mikeneko Rock: During that long freeze at the end, I either do "jazz hands" or bang my fists like I'm playing the drums.

Ecstasy: Going into each of the two freezes, I always strike some sort of bizarre pose and then stay like that for the whole freeze, standing perfectly still.

Back when I use to play on Max 2 regularly (most of the machines are extremes now) When it was the main screen and the announcer said "DDR Max 2" I'd finish with saying "To the Seventh mix~!" in mockery of him.

In V, standard steps, during the last half of the first freeze arrows, I do this bend backwards thingie like something's flying overhead/everythings' slowing down.

Heavy, Spin the disc, during the middle/last stream part, I always hold my arms at chest level and move them like how the girl tap dancer chicks did back in the 50's for some odd reason.

I have a habit of rolling my eyes at the "oh shit" parts of songs.

During exotic ethnic heavy, during the turns sections, I get really into it and start sort of slowly spinning my arms and in an exotic fashion and I start to twist my body and generally just add more of a... dancing vibe to the song or something. It's very fun.

Also, my friend (during songs that she finds difficult) makes a clawlike hand position and starts to squat down. It's hilarious.

Sounds a lot like John Avalishi's Healing Vision routine (the 2nd video in the Videos section).

it's annoying to most players I play with but I sing the songs I'm playing. Sometimes it's funny to see a dorky white kid in glasses sing in Japanese though :D

oh yeah, my really bad habit is BAD FREESTLYE. I mean, it's only like one thing per song but I do stupid stuff. Like all those down arrows in Orion.78 maniac? I hop and thrown my leg over the bar. -_- I do it without thinking.

Another bad habit is that I HAVE TO PLAY WITH MY CREAM THE RABBIT PLUSH ON MY MACHINE.
Hahha

Um kbye!

i shake my whole body, trying to get loose. then i tighten up by staring at the screen for 5 minutes. then, i proceed.

It's very common for me to clap a quarter beat before the steps start if there's a long pause, or if there's a "musical pause". Stoic is a good example, or DXY!. I hardly ever do complete turns, but I always turn the one step in the end of Spin the Disc. I sing along to AM-3P -_-. Sometimes when there's just a short stepping break (Twilight Zone comes to mind) I start adding steps. For example where it goes: [xx xx xx xx x x] x x x xx (xx x), the ones in parenthesis I step because there's nothing else on the screen.

I sometimes use one foot to hit 4 arrows on heavy. I also have a tendency of facing left while playing. Most of the time when i am playing a song like Spin The Disk or Long Train Runnin' I would do a sort of pop'n motion with my hands.

What Up Everyone!
My habits of playing DDR is when I play Sexy Planet (Oni) I might do an air hump! I do that move on that part when the steps alternate in single then double, then single, then double, etc.

My other habits are bad. I would say the F word if I misstep or in danger of failing, or when I fail a song. and I would sometimes kick the machine if I fail a song.

That's what I do sometimes...except not on Twilight Zone. I sometimes don't feel like double-stepping or pausing, so I just add extra steps on songs like Twinbee. I occasionally mess up and end up hitting all the wrong arrows because I make up the steps on the spot. erm.gif

At the end of "Dance Dance Revolution" when the guy says the song's name, I just roll my eyes and sarcastically say "Really?" It was wierd because the first time I said it, my friend said the exact same thing at the exact same time. It was freaky at the time because it was so unexpected and synchronized. We laughed way too much after that. laugh.gif

I always bite my lip on the first couple of songs I play, and it happens without me even knowing. Sometimes, it goes on for longer periods of time, but I stop once I can taste blood. riiight.gif

V- I hit the freeze in the beginning, i raise onto my tiptoes and let go of the bar, and i have a rapt expression on my face
Spin the Disc- i spin one of my hands in a circle at the end
Kakumei oni- i let go of the bar, balance with my right foot on the right arrow, and play the piano with both hands behind me as i wait for the one note in the slow part..and i always get a perfect E1.gif

Wow, you guys are really wierd. laugh.gif

I don't have any habits, but my brother makes up random steps and does them before the song starts. Like before the annoucer says "Are you ready?" he'll do a bunch of random 8th and 16th notes until I tell him he looks really stupid. laugh.gif
