Is there some forum slow-down or something happening? It's just that every time I log on it takes 3 or 4 minutes to load one page. I just wondered if this is only me or if anyone else is having the problem.

They're just too cluttered....thats my guess. With 32,000 members, I'm sure the bandwidth gets shot.

I can't remember what exactily was the cause of this happening before but it has happened before so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Or it could be just that your connection was unusually slow today or lately. Just a thought. E1.gif

It's been the site. I've had problems loading pages here from three different broadband connections in the past week and it's really annoying.

Agilab has it right. this site is HUGE. bandwidth is definitly a strain with so many people accessing the site at once.

i can see what i can do about bugging the admins to do something about it.

maybe deleting the folks that don't have any posts at all for say a couple months. Might be a database problem. With the number of users and such I could understand that. E1.gif

We think it might be a system problem. Anyway, I recently bought a new server, and we hope to install it within a month or so. The new server is faster and has more updated software, so it should help things.

Some people register to input machine locations but don't post. We don't want to get rid of their usernames E1.gif

Hmmm...well there's gotta be a more efficient way of getting machine locations if said problem of having too many users on here is bogging us down. Perhaps you could implement the same technique seen on some other forums where they put a disclaimer on the sign up sheet saying "Your profile will be automatically deleted if you do not post X amount of times during the first two months", X being a rather low and easily attainable number. That could save space.

That would just make people who only want to update the machine locations (and who don't post on the forums) do an extra step when they don't need to right now.

Also, they would have to make at least one post and that would add onto the database. E10.gif

The new server should help.

But anyway, last time this happened, didn't we have an unrelated issue where we had to go back to a DB backup or something? And then it magically was fast again?
