If you are talking about the background and banners, most make them in Photoshop. Backgrounds are 640x480 and banners are 256x80, in pixels usually in png form. _________________

I've come to the conclusion that xstep is very limited in what I can do.
....I've decided I want to make my songs in notepad.
Can anyone help me out with basically telling me how to do it? (I have the bpm and the gap for the song already.) _________________

Well, I'm not reeeeeeeeally stopping you from explaining it. Although this whole thread probably explains everything you need to know now. _________________

Okay...new question.
A friend of mine explained how to do it in Stepmania, which I'm liking a LOT more.
Right now though, as I'm editing my song...I see this blinking line.
My question is...what is it, and how do I get rid of it because I'm no where NEAR done. _________________

That blinking line is either the starting bar or the finishing bar. In 3.0, there are two lines, one that marks where you're song starts playing back/recording when you press R or P. The line, at the end of the song, marks where the song will automatically end after recording/playing back.
For SM 3.0- Pressing Enter creates a new starting bar, and the space bar creates a new finishing bar.
For SM 3.9- The line can only be created with the space bar, hold Page Down and press the up for down arrow to highlight which part of the song you want to have played while recording/playing back.
To answer your question, to get rid of it, just scroll downward (Page Down) and press the space bar to make a new finishing point. You're probably trying to play the song back, and it ends abruptly. Hope this helped. |

I have a question. Is there a freeware program that will get the BPM for me instead of my doing it by pressing the space bar or enter key? I ask this because when I enter the bpm for the dwi, the steps are synced.... but after a while they're so off. And these are just the regular quarter steps. Instead of fudging with the bpm over and over again, is there a way for me to find out the bpm without human error? _________________

Are you sure the song you are doing have a constant bpm? Many band made songs don't have a constant bpm.
And I know there are programs that find the bpm automatically out there. But I never needed to look for them personally. _________________

That's the thing, I'm not sure if it does have a constand beat. I'm rpetty sure it does. It's a techno song, and the steps are right on target in the beginning, but towards the end, going with the best will give you goods (great at best and that's if you yourself are off).
Well... it can also be that I edited the song so it'll be shorter (not 5 minutes long but 1:20). Is anyone good at shortening songs without messing up the bpm? I have all the songs and the program... but no skill. _________________

Ah, well if you cut a section in the middle out. That can easily be the problem.
And I need some help actually. I made a Tears long version but, some of the numbers are off, I know they are. And I can't seem to find the perfect bpm and freeze coding. If someone thinks they can figure it out here's the file:
http://www.phrekwenci.com/archives/000468.html
And the code I got closer with is:
#TITLE:Tears (long version);
#ARTIST:Naoki Underground feat. EK (Noria);
#BPM:143;
#GAP:400;
#GENRE:Phrekwenci;
#FREEZE:893=1660,1150=1700; _________________

I'm having some problems when I make "real" songs into DWIs.
So far whenever I do:
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger/Daft Punk
Your Body/good-cool feat. Andrea Hopkins
Kimosabe/BT
and a few other songs I seem to have trouble getting the songs to "STAY" onbeat. I've made about a bunch of DWIs that are perfectly synched but these and any others with a long intro won't synch right.
As in when I goto Record and just press any arrow on the 4/4 Beat sooner or later somewhere in the song it becomes offbeat. I try changing the BPM of that area but it just becomes unsynched later...
I'm thinking the problem is you don't start the GAP (using XSTEP) RIGHT at the intro (although some songs I need steps during the intro) or the BPM is wrong since for some reason XSTEP always rounds the BPM.
Has anyone else had a problem with this? Song's start out onbeat then at the same BPM later in the song start to become offbeat? _________________

Too late. I already made Harder better Faster Stronger. You can feel free to make your own steps to my file, but don't put it in public.
