One thing which really bugs me at the moment is the lack of legal DWIs. I'm more than happy to play rips from DDR at home but it makes playing Stepmania in public places such as the local gaming cafe, school or university out of the question. Most businesses or organisation wouldn't risk it.
What I would really love to do is create a website where people can submit their own DWIs using music that the original author has allowed to distribute freely or music made by themselves. My idea is to have it in a similar format to sites such as pocketpcthemes.com and deviant art. People would also be able to post up requests for songs to be turned into DWIs.
I'd like to hear what you people think of the idea. Is there too little freely licenced music out there? Would you submit work to such a site? Would you like to help with site design or any such things?
Thanks.
My Jabber IM address is: [email protected] if you want to chat with me about helping out.

Moved to Simulators, since I don't believe I've seen this mentioned before. _________________

Correct me if I'm wrong, but most businesses or organizations wouldn't have a clue as to what the hell you were playing. Certainly as long as you weren't there holding tournies with it or something (i.e., you're just sitting there playing on a laptop or something), they couldn't be held liable for you playing an 'illegal' game.
I also honestly think that none of them would really care. C'mon, how's it ripping off Konami to play a simulator version of a song that's not available in the US? _________________

Since you ask, I am interested in encouraging my local gaming cafe to get a dance mat and set up one of the computers there with Stepmania. I also know that someone on the Stepmania forums mentioned his/her school was interested in setting up something as it is a more fun way of getting exercise than usual activities. For the particular
Although it is true that you could just buy DDR on a console I believe that Stepmania offers so much more. Unlike a console game it can be constantly improved and added to. It also is a more unusual way of people promoting their own music. This way it keeps things fresh and people don't get tired of playing the same old music again and again. Although not totally legal, just look at some of the creative work that people have put into their submissions for DDRei's Tournamix competitions. Features such as online play etc may also be added in the future. |
