Im half interested now that some old school DDR artists are popping up. Mind explaining that mine field thing? It like you step on a mine during a song the pad will shock you with 10000 volts? Or or, maybe you can set it where if you touch the metal squares you get shocked?
One thing I miss is the Korean songs from 3rd Mix. Any possibility of Korean songs showing up?

Whoah, that webcast was quite a while ago.

It definitely gave a good glimpse into what kind of music is in In the Groove, though. That is, for those of us who aren't anywhere near the testing location up there at Illusionz!

Has anyone heard any of the songs from In The Groove yet? (There's a tentative songlist at roxorgames.com's testers board)

yeah I'm a little late but WOW you guys are giving these guys wayyy too much shit.. let's see you walk into an arcade and get DDR hardware to interface with a Linux system in a week.. and he was probably defending the game because.. I dunno.. he was RIGHT?

hopefully you guys can completely overhaul the graphics because right now they reek.. dunno what you have planned but I'd add a border at the bottom of the screen (and a thin one around the sides too shit) because it looks ugly as hell without anything there.. and remember sometimes a lower framerate is a good thing

if you're really serious about this game.. you know what I want to see, I want to see shit like Night at the Roxbury style, shit that actually makes you want to get up and move (remember freestyle? before they flooded DDR with Jenny ROM and other songs that make me want to cry).. some newage disco would own too (think Disco Groove nonstop).. but if not that, since this is targeted at an american audience, at least use some mid 90s pop or something, but please PLEASE not generic "techno" and PLEASE not techno from independent artists (I know you're trying to support them, that's cool, but you're trying to support yourself too) it might work for PC sims but in the arcade? come on now

also it's insanely easy for someone to write fun keyboard sim steps.. and most of them would absolutely blow ass if they were played on an actual arcade cabinet.. but I'm sure you guys know that already

Another entry on In the Groove

So, when I was at Illusionz yesterday, I spent about an hour playing ITG and took a bunch of pictures. The pictures are here in my gallery.

Here are some observations for today.
* The difficulty level needs tweaking. In one song, I missed a few steps in a row and my lifebar was near-empty.
* When your lifebar goes empty, you can NEVER recover it. That's kind of messed up. Kind of defeats the purpose of having no auto-fail.
* The difficulty curve between Medium and Hard mode is way too high on many songs. Medium is way too easy for me and Hard is way too hard. Perhaps this points more toward the previous two notes rather than me simply being a sucky player.
* I found out that "Overhead" mode makes the arrows scroll like in DDR. With scrolling options like Incoming, Overhead, Space, Hallway, and Distant, how could I *not* know that I should have used that one? I asked this in IRC..

* Please. For the love of god, get rid of the dumb warning message.
* I really like the high score system. It's per-song and per-difficulty.
* I really like the IIDX-style ranking screen.

Bugs:
* It gives a "Access to next song CLEARED" message even if you don't have any songs left.
* When scrolling through the multi-page options screen, the bottom continues to prompt you to go down for more options when there aren't any left.
* It had a big skipping problem. Nearly every song I played would freeze during the first 30 seconds and get all whacked out causing me a bunch of misses.
* Timing felt off during some songs. Perhaps it was related to it being slightly out of sync after songs would freeze momentarily.

Other than that, it was fun and like I've said a bunch of times before, it shows a bunch of promise.

Obviously this thing isnt going to run on the bemani System 573, how easy will this be to install for arcade managers? They just cant swap a card and a disc. Since its a different system, wouldnt you be able to fit the computer AND the 573 in there so you can have DDR and ITG? Just incase no one likes ITG.... ... Will you guys *eventually* sell your own cabinets instead of hacking a DDR machine?

Its amazing how some people can be so negative. I mean honestly you have to realise it is still being tested and what not and Im sure all the guys are working their butts off to release something which everyone will like. Sure it may currently have some flaws but once again im sure many people are working on it. Also if its true that DDR is dead in terms of konami releasing a new mix then I hope this gets off the ground as I'd hate to have nothing to play hehe Oh and if Konami has a problem with them releasing this title then why dont they get off their arses and make a new mix instead of saying noone plays it when obviously a few people still play

BTW Cant wait for the finished product guys!!! Im sure it will be awesome.
Oh another thing I know I havent really heard much of the music cept for some vids I downloaded but is there going to be much in terms of slow songs ? Jazzy songs ? Ive always thought a interesting idea would be slowish songs which couples can play and make "cute" routines. Hey it may sound crap but then again Im a romantic inside I Guess.

And who has ever heard of people getting married on a ddr machine? BWAHAHA *kidding maybe*

Personally, I just hate it. I hate the idea that "In the Groove" is going to replace DDR. I would never play it!!! It's like an americanized DDR and theres not point to it.
