You know i'm not really sure how to do it because I've never used a RO mat. I am trying to figure out how to do it. Once I get theire wiring diagram for their control box it should be pretty easy to do it from there. I emailed them asking if they would send it to me but they haven't responded yet so we'll see. So the answer is yes. But I just don't know how at this moment. Soon to come. |

I would probably do this for you but I don't know how the wiriing diagram goes for the RO control box. When I figure it though I can probably help you or I could possibly make one for you. |

Im going to map it out later today.. I was gonna try and get like a piece of foil, and have it touch one part of the plug in to the plug and press the buttons to see which it is.. i know it will be tedious but redoctane won't respond. |

Hey thanks a bunch. I would do it but i dont have a RO mat. I tried emailing them and all they gave me was an automated response . I figured someone in the forums could figure it out for me and I'll try and figure everything else out from there. |

If only we knew what about the xbox pad makes it show up as a pad, it would probably make it easier to do. I have RO Ignition 2.0 pads which means no external control. I wouldnt know what exactly to do. |

Anyone try ripping open a xbox control pad (regular one) and rewiring it for a pad? Just wondering for the guy who asked what made the xbox pad show up like a pad.. maybe it's just cause there aren't as many buttons registering or something? Cause a ps2 to xbox adapter would most likely attempt to emulate all buttons even if they aren't being used I'd think... shrug, just a quick ponder for the evening =p. |

Well I did it and everything works like a charm. I was thinking about what made it show up as a controller instead when I first did this because I was trying to figure out if there was any other way to do this. I speculated that most of that mats that you see are wired PS2 controllers. So if you wire it through a PS2 controller it probably thinks that its a controller and shows that. For the the adpaters that now show the mat I assume they use a chip or something to overide the XBOX thinking that. But that's just an idea. |

ok to put simply, the pad and controller are USB devices, therefore, they tell the box what they are.
for the extended version: later tonight (i hope) i will be comparing the controller and the Dance pad on my computer with a USB device profiler, I will even put out the differences in the two onto this thread, so those who want info can have it. When i find this out, i will be able to at least help those inclined to learn usb 1.1 specifications with some information that they would not normally obtain easilly. if anyone knows where pictures of opened up xbox controllers live online, feel free to PM me, i would be happy to look at em.
more information (until i post later tonght) can be found here: http://euc.jp/periphs/xbox-controller.en.html |

if you were to make this for a home-made pad (ex. ddrhomepad or riptide etc.), how would you be able to select songs with it? if only the four arrows are wired directly to the pad and you replace the external control box, you wouldnt be able to select anything, right? or am i missing something? |

You can select things just fine with this design. All the switches (The arrows, X, O, Start, and Select) are all wired to the D-Shell cable in the front. This allows me to plug in Cobalt Flux's control box on the front to use me mat on the PS2, and then I can plug in the modified XBOX control box to play on my XBOX. Most people wire their mats through a PS2 controller, putting the D-Shell connector in the front and having control box plugged into it is the same exact thing. All this lets me do is switch between playing on my XBOX and my PS2 instead of having it strictly for the PS2. I hope this answers your question. |

No flipping kidding; it would be far more useful if someone could demonstrate what's different to identify it.

OK, this may sound a little odd, but I'm tired of the lag between the CF, the CBOX and the Gemeni, to the point that I actually need to have this done (I tried to play Max2 yesterday, and got ALL GREATS ). SO, here is my question-- seeing as you already know HOW to make a box from a deceased pad, and I don't have a soft pad of my own to kill, can I send you some $ and you build and send the new CBOX?
This is like that other guys post, except it's not RO, so you already know how to do it. I would have done it myself, but I can't find the bundled Konami pad for the life of me. _________________
