You better get a good excuse ready when the door motor stops working then, because a slide card will eventually ruin it. |

I would just like to know if it is better to get a modchip or simply replace the cover and get swap disks for the PS2. Keep in mind I'm not so much worried about the price as I am permanently damaging my PS2. |

Yeah, it boots PSX games and import PSX games just fine, but it DOESN'T boot mod-protected games. And as all import PSX DDR mixes are mod-protected...
We installed a M2 in my friends PS2, so I've tried it. And all the patches to remove the mod-protection mess up the song syncing and stuff...
Either that... or I'm just delusional. |

You're circumventing PS2 Protections and Copyrights, it is illegal. _________________

if they had it in the store, why would they refuse to sell it and say it's illegal? |

Actually, last I heard mod-chipper makers had been sued at least twice by Sony, and had won both times.
It's little different than saying "CD-RWs are illegal because they can be used to bypass copyprotection and copyright."
Apparantly X-Box chips are illegal if pre-flashed, which is why they sell them blank. I'm not exactly sure about the distinction, but there you have. This is why xbox places are routinely shut down if selling flashed chips while you can order a PS2 chip just about anywhere. |

Hi,
How does the DMS mod chip stand up to Messia or Magic? It does offer free upgrades without more than one purchase. I'm just wondering before I chuck out the money for a mod chip.
Oddball question: Why doesn't Sony create mod chips? Wouldn't it be cheaper for them to make them, have dealers, and sell them? 1) More money. 2) Instead of other creators, they'd be getting the money (not that I feel that the ones making the mod chips are bad or anything.) 3) More people would then buy imports and such which leads to more revenue. I don't see how they would not want to do that, or could miss the fact that they could make more money . Ah well. The only down side that I can see at the moment would be that we wouldn't know the quality that we're getting. The current mod chip creators seem to really care about what they are doing and their customers and what they think.
Thanks

I am thinking about getting a fliptop for my ps2. It is a model 39001 and I was woundering if I could just buy some swap magic disks insted of installing the flip top? Could I just leave the top on and just use the swap disks? I got the information and may be buying the swap disks and flip top from http://ps2fliptop.net/index.htm. Please help me. |

Due to international laws (Probably the same one that created the DVD region thing) Sony cannot support, or create anything that could break that law, especially on it's own hardware.
This is just the jist of it. I don't know what law, or details of it. |

the point of the flip top is, you can't press the eject button on the PS2 when you use swap magic discs, because the PS2 will re-read the region codes. You can use a flip top, slide card (if you feel like wearing our your drive motor) or leave the cover off (if you feel like getting dust into your PS2) |

Flip top is the ideal mod. It's stupidly easy to install, it won't burn out your system or wreck your disc tray, and it makes your PS2 blue. It also gives you access to the laser for quick & easy cleaning. (This is important; I literally have to QTip my PS2 every time I want to play DDR Max US. Max2 US, Max2 & Extreme JP all work fine, but Max US is being picky. Once the system reads the game, the game itself runs flawlessly.)
There are only three things to keep in mind when installing a fliptop lid. First is to be mindful of the ribbon wire connecting the power & reset buttons. If you remove the lid the way they tell you to, this isn't an issue. Second is getting the memory card covers installed into the fliptop lid part. This was a giant hassle, but since there's no electronics involved you just have to beat at it. Third... I hope you've got tiny screwdrivers. I mean, really, really, really tiny screwdrivers. Once you take off the lid, you have to remove the CD cover, and unless you have screwdrivers capable of removing electrons from energy fields, it's staying where it is. If you've got the screwdriver, installing this thing is like falling off a log.
The *only* downside to a fliptop lid is that as it is, it can't play import PS1 games. But there has to be another boot disc for that somewhere. However, the six PS2 DDR games have practically every song covered anyway, with nicer options and interfaces to go with them.

PSX-Tech recommended me to the DMS3 just for the sole fact it has upgradeable options. Right now its pretty much just as good as the Messiah and Magic but once Sony comes out with some kind of protection it the DMS3 will be able to get around it free where as you'll end up having to upgrade the other two for a price. _________________

Is it possible to take out your mod-chip and replace it with a more up to date mod-chip? |
