Mod-chips, particularly the Messiah 2 Pro, are a lot better than a flip-top, but a flip-top is still very good. Only get a mod-chip if you feel condfident about installing it, otherwise, get a flip-top.

We did buy the extended 1 year warranty from EB games with our PS2, its 2 months old, so opening it up right now really isnt an option
We also picked up the Magic Slide set to see if it will work with DDR Extreme. Followed the instructions perfectly, even made sure that little white thing moved correctly. But we are still getting the pink bar across the top of the screen when putting in DDR:E and pressing X on the controller
I hope that we didnt screw something up as 'sometimes' it will only read the swap disks, and sometimes it goes to browser with a disk read error. rebooting usually does the trick
We also tried using the slider with a regular NTSC game and get the same problem.. Maybe its just me...? |

I am quite interested in getting DDR Extreme and a flip top mod for christnas. However, I'm reading all sorts of mixed reviews of people saying that the fliptop mod works, other people saying it doesn't, etc. I'm paralyzed, I don't know what to get, and I don't want to ask for something that won't work.
Anyway, I'm still unsure about where to get Extreme. I had a bad experience last year with ToysnJoys delivering DDR 5th mix a month after it was supposed to get here. This question is to people who have Extreme and HAVE MADE IT WORK! Where did you get your copy of extreme from? What do you use to play it? Where did you get it from? |

I pre-ordered my Extreme from Japanvideogames.com before it was released. Got it right on time.
As for the fliptop, the stories you heard were from people that had a burned copy of the game (But obviously did not admit it, and would argue otherwise). If you have the original, there is nothing to worry about. |

I recently read that ps2fliptop.com now has a colored bottom case so now your whole ps2 can be the same color. But I'm curious to how you install the bottom part. There are no guides available on there site. How do you install it then?

I got my DDR:Extreme from LikSang in about 2 weeks, thats with free shipping. Works perfectly!
The problem with my Slide Card was that I was using the CD disk instead of the DVD disk. You only use the CD disk when the CDs themselves are blue underneath...everything else you use the DVD CD |

Thats the "Asia" version of DDR Extreme. Is there a difference between it and the Japanese version?
And on Japanvideogames, it still says "Pre-order" even though the game has been released. Kinda worrys me, do they not update their site THAT often?
Oh, and mad props to both of you for helping me out. |

No it is the Japanese version, even though it does ship from Hong Kong
Yes DDR:Extreme was released in October, however that other site might only have them as a 'special-order' |

Anyone know of some trustworthy places that sell flip-tops? Is www.ps2cover.com trustworthy and reliable? |

Actually on every disk it will say CDROM or DVD on it. Almost all are on DVD now. In the early PS2 days there were some games released on CD. Check the top of the disk and you will see the little DVD symbol or the CDROM symbol. This is also listed on the back of the game cases. _________________

I got my Cover from ps2cover.com way back when. That was months ago, but they're still in business, so I'd take that as a good sign . _________________

Thanks for answering my question so promptly Jason! I appreciate it, as it doesn't often happen that people answer questions (I know, there are a lot of them...). I guess I should be ordering within the week then, and be happily playing Max2 and Extreme . |

Okay...I have a problem. And I don't understand what's causing it.
My friend gave me his modded PS2 because he got a Japanese PS2 recently and I bought some DDR imports (6th Mix, 4th Mix, and 3rd Mix) to play on it.
I know that the modchip in the PS2 is a Magic 3 (or 3.1). I know how to boot the PS2 and PSX games correctly.
Well - it boots 6th Mix perfectly fine. But when I try to boot the 3rd or 4th Mix games, it will load the game and get to the "Detecting Memory Card" screen and then the screen turns black and it shows a large red circle with a slash through it and some text that I cannot read (black text on a black background?).
Does anyone know if this is because of the modchip or just something that the game is doing? And anything to solve the problem.
Thanks for anyone who can help. _________________

It's because PSX mixes are mod protected (they detect mod chips), and the Magic 3 isn't stealth. Therefore it detects that you're trying to boot them with a modchip, and doesn't work. I've heard the DMS3 boots PSX games no problem, but not the Magic 3 or Messiah 2. |

Hey guys!
I have a quick question on slice cards!
I looked through the thread but I cant find anything...If I missed something obvious sry..heh...
Anyways...
1) What is a slide card...all i know is its a weird shaped black thing...
2) How do you use it?
3) What does it do when you use it...I guess this one might be a little redundant tho
Sry for just barging in and askin but im thinking of getting the Slide Card Magic 2.0 >> http://www.consolesource.com/ecomm/customer/product.php?productid=2&cat=&page=1
And I just wanna hear some solid facts before I buy it.....
Thanks _________________

I have PS2 with Messiah in it. It boots PSX games well, you just need to press reset button twice. _________________

1) It's a device used to open the door of the playstation manually, so that the PS does not know the door is opening (to get around the disk check)
2) I have not used one, but reading what it is used for, can pretty much paint a general idea.
3) It opens the door, so that you can swap out the swap disks, and put the import/backup in. If you don't have a warranty on your playstation, a FLIPTOP IS BETTER, because the slide card will begin to wear out the door motor, and gears. |

thanks for responding
see I would get a fliptop but i'm not very good with tech stuff, and my brother told me that theres is no way in heck I can do anything to his ps2...so anything around that is out.
I heared with a slide card you dont have to tamper with the ps2 at all...so thats why I choose that...
what exactly do you have to do...theres no opening involved right _________________
