|
|
When I got Ultramix I didn't like how it showed you were playing with a controller when you were really playing with the mat. So I thought, the soft mat shows a mat when you play, so why not wire it through the control box on the front of the soft mat. I did this so I had an external control box for the XBOX and when I did this and it did in fact work. It showed a mat when I joined the rooms and I could use the headset no problem. I did this because I couldn't find an adapter that showed a mat.
I made a guide to show how I did it. You can check it out here:
http://www.geocities.com/beavstir
It also shows a picture of the finished control box. I made the guide in word. Tell me what you think if you do it. Hope it helps and enjoy. |

it works.. but when his "little" bandwidth runs out.. it'll be down again... get a different host.. like tripod .. or brinkster or something. _________________

Too bad I don't have a CF...
Do the third party Xbox pads also show up as a pad? I'd think maybe messing with those control boxes may be easier (and more cost effective)? _________________

Any mat that has the D-Shell connector on the end such as a Cobalt Flux would work with this control box mod. If you don't have this and you have a PS2 cable sticking out of the front you can rewire it so it works through a D-Shell connector but then you would have to use an external control box all the time. When I modified my mats through the D-Shell connector I just bought a Cobalt Flux control box and used that. I think that is better to use a external control box because if you're connections inside get screwed up you have to take apart the mat and you have to find where to resaulder the connections onto the chip which can be difficult if you don't know what each point does.
If you are in fact interested in rewiring your mat through a D-Shell connector just let me know and I will be happy to show you how to do it. It's really quite simple. |

The only problem is the person that will make them for you will have to have two soft mats and to my knowledge they sell the game in a bundle pack with the mat only. So I think it will be quite iffy if anyone will do this. Red Octane just emailed me the other day saying that they're coming out with a control box that will work on XBL. They didn't specify though whether or not that means that it will show a controller so you may want wait and find out how there's is. This modding is just a cheaper solution to not going out and buying a control box when you have a soft mat and a metal pad. |

well i think that redoctane is just going to have a regular control box.. which you could buy from any third party shop..
but cobalt flux is in the process of making a control box for it's CF to be able to be recognized as a mat on xbl _________________

FYI ... stay away from the XJoyBox converter for PS2 pads on the Xbox. Way too much delay ... makes the game unplayable. |
Hey thanks. It took a lot of work. Thanks for the info. We bought one convertor and it showed a controller when you played and it didn't even have and card slots for your headset. We payed 25 bucks for that thing too. Boy was that a waste of money. Thats wy we made our own control box. |
