This is news?

Wow, I suppose that means Israel doesnt exist anymore.

I can understand that its for charity and all, but I find it sad that people are all anal about this.

Hm. Some guy with insomnia stood and looked at a screen for 1 1/2 days. This isnt much of an accomplishment, I mean sure, you would get tired, but I'd rather donate money to a person running a marathon or something than a guy standing and moving one foot every 2 seconds.

Then you know that your money was worked hard for, and not just "endured" for.

***EDIT***

Keep in mind, Im right in the middle of a CALM 20 class right now, so I currently hate the news and sob stories such as this one.

I also understand it's importance on this site because it IS ddr.
I just want to know something, what difficulty of songs did these guys play?

Maniac? Wow.
Light? Psh.

Thank you everyone. It was a lot harder than we thought it would be. And to the guy above me, yeah it may sound easy, but don't talk sh.it about what we did until YOU try playing ddr straight for 37 and a half hours straight. Peace.

Ok, something I think that a lot of people are ignoring here is that the general public could care less about AA's, AAA's, light vs. maniac and the like.

All they care about is that someone is doing it and they're doing it for a good cause. The general public could care less about DDR for the most part, it's the cause of this record breaking attempt that is the important part. It's the cause that made this noteworthy, not whether or not the guy did it while bar raping on one foot and singing the national anthem.

If you were playing DDR for the entire time like he was, I'm sure you would end up resorting to modes like beginner mode after that long. Maybe the guy actually CARED to have a body afterwards. Give it a shot, I'd like to see you play maniac songs for 37 and a half hours and be able to walk afterwards.

*rolls eyes* I just can't believe some people. Life doesn't revolve around DDR, gang. Try focusing on the cause rather than the means to it.

Anyway, wow, I could hardly believe it. But the article said that Drew and Chris didn't follow all of the rules. So wouldn't you just have to tie the record with the rules in order to break it? My friend and I are going to try to break it as well. I forget who's post i read that said that him and a friend were going to break it up in canada, and another guy said he's going to break it.
Also, if it's on beginner the latter part of the playing, the only problem would be staying awake, not having your legs hurt i would think. Beginner and light. Well, as long as he still had feelings in his legs, that's fine.
Congrats Drew! thumb.gif Cheers to you! beerchug.gif

37.5 hours, eh? that's pretty dang impressive. heh heh, you've got my props man. i've gone Heavy for probably 8 hours straight tops, and seeing that 8 as less than 1/4 of your time makes it look like squat. and myself being an Eagle Scout, seeing the money go to a worthy cause is a very good thing. props to you, man!

I'm not sure why anyone else is pointing this out, but has anyone here ever walked for 37 hours straight? Or tried to stay up that long simply moving the entire time? Or better yet, who of you work for 8 hours straight and find themselves losing concentration every once in a while? Imagine having to do an easy job, but for 37.5 hours straight!

It's less a matter of stamina, more a matter of concentration, because after so many hours the chances are that you are just going to lose it and start stepping off the beat or something.

Oh, and for all you people who are complaining about it not being on heavy, how long do you actually consider an incredible amount of time playing nothing but heavy steps?

In my opinion, beginner would seem like heavy after 12 hours due to the fatigue and concentration requirments.

I'd like to know what those rules were, because we have the official list of rules and regulations and I don't believe we broke one of them. There was NO issues reguarding difficulty and NO issues reguarding bar usage.

Since a lot of you are asking about difficulty, and bar raping, and all that other stuff, I should probably explain...

First off, no AAA's (plenty of AA's). We thought we were going to have too many to count but after 15 hours you just stop paying attention to score and start trying to keep your mind on other things. We used Extreme. We started at the bottom of the bpm list and started on light, meaning, we played Legend of Max and all that mumbo jumbo at the start so the people that were there watching at the start would not be completely bored riiight.gif Then as we went up the list, we started throwing in some standard songs. Throughout the whole thing I think we only did about 3-5 heavy songs, maybe 10-15 standard songs, 40% light difficulty, and 60% beginner difficulty. Basically what happened, is after about 15 hours we agreed to move down from light onto beginner. Because at that point we could feel the pain in our legs already.

I see some of you don't think it was that hard, but trust me, it was more of a mind game than it was a physical issue. Give this task to a marathon runner and I think he'd have the same issue that I did. My problem was that my mind could no longer focus on ddr after about 36 hours, it just started drifting (aka, dreaming while playing ddr). Quite scarey actually. That went on for about an hour and a half and I finally realized it was time to quit. Wish I coulda made the 40 hour mark, but oh well, we raised a lot of money for grandamothers house, and 3 more hours wasn't going to make THAT much a difference.

I can't believe so many people are already wanting to break this record. I heard the previous record attempt was done 3 years ago. It took 3 years until someone challenged that record, and it's taken less than a week for people to challenge this record. Strange, but I don't think half these people will actually be living up to their word. If anyone does happen to attempt it, good luck to you.

EDIT: I'd also like to mention the fact that I can no longer enjoy ddr. It's not even been a week since the record, but I can't imagine myself playing ddr ever again. I played it at a recent anime convention and I simply could not have fun. So before you attempt it, ask yourself, "do I want to quit playing ddr?" I'm sure I'll be fine eventually, but it has totally screwed up the way I think of ddr.

Chris and Drew DID follow the rules, and the only reason Chris didn't last that long was because someone duped them into playing Sakura on heavy after already playing for 17 or so hours. Drew passed, Chris didn't. Big deal they're still my friends.

So pretty much the only "rule broken" according to the article, is that both of you will not be the world record setter. Stupid article. Anyway, i have 2 questions for Drew. 1. Is your arcade open 24 hours, or did you have to arrange something with the manager, and 2. Did you have to contact Guiness and convince them to be at the arcade or what? If you don't want to post it, send me a PM.

EDIT...I don't like using the bar ever, but I can see why you'd need it during those long, gruelling hours. Don't flame me please.
