Wang just sent me a PM, he noticed an important flaw in my statistics here. (Nods to Wang.)

In a nutshell, it involves the 10-foot players at the top of the cart. I asked for HOW LONG they have been playing, not WHEN they got to 10-foot, so, essentially, all of the 10-foot data is junk.

I'm not going to eliminate it now, but I might make a second, adjusted version that does not include players who have hit the ceiling, so to speak.

No kidding! I was wondering if there were any deaf or blind people who played DDR. (Blind players could play by memorizing the steps or having someone else "lead" them.)

there are a cople things i would like to add. I started playing DDR when i was ruffly Ten. I am now 13 (and my birthday is 20, november, in your face E10.gif)
I didnt start playing ddr religiously untill 2 summers ago. And annother reason why my spot looks really odd on the chart, is, because when i play, i am mainly playing for fun. im usually not worried about my score or aaa's or any of that, i have just started getting conerned about that. I figured that may explain the fact that i look really odd on the chart to people.. oh, and i can get a b on orion.78 am euro...

There's a lot of other factors (I'm sure you know) that I think make this fairly flawed... But, I'll give my info.

ninjafetus
age 20
almost all arcade (but started at home for almost ~1 year)
playing 2.5 years (reached 10 level after 1.75 years?)
AA 10's fairly consistantly

A few big factors I thought of.
Some people may have been playing a long time before they had access to a Max or higher, so that they might have not had the chance to go to 10's yet... even if they were good enough to. I mean, Yasu was so good by the time Max came out that he almost full comboed it first try... I know it's an extreme example, but lack of access to all mixes from the time you started playing can be a big factor. Also, if you play at home, pad type matters a lot.

I think PA would be a better correlation to use. As in, time to sdg or AAA on different foot songs (probably above 5) would have a much greater time dependance than just getting an A on something. You can learn to play really fast (if you have the right situation, or people to teach you), but mastering your timing is something that's almost completely personal effort over time.

Name: the upside down raver

How long: Come this Chirstmas, I can confidently say 3 years (random thing: I started in 5th grade, when I was eleven. I'm thirteen now, 8th grade. Didn't do much playing up until the beginning of my second year. Got hung on beginner's mode for half my first year, then got better. Then I went to Vegas and figured out how to amaze [and got to play MAX 2 for the first time].)

Where at: The arcade. Home versions suck (not the games themselves, because I love 'em to death riiight.gif but gameplay-wise...) unless you have decent pads.

What level can I A? A single ten-footer (Sakura. I don't use the bar, which makes it hard for me to lift my feet and step correctly on songs with arrows resembling those of the PS and Max brothers. Bag just sickens me, so I'm leaving it alone. Not to mention that a shooting closed down the arcade with our only decent EX.) and nearly everything below that (read: 98 percent at most). You have things like Long Train Runnin' that kinda trip you up (my sightreading is decent, but my legs like to cramp up and/or move the wrong ways on me). If you also wanted to know (too lazy to look back), I can AA most 8 and 9-footers, with fair consistency.

dude. i hope you can't seriously see correlation in those points.

1) you have WAY too few points to establish a trend
2) it looks like a friggin shotgun blast

1) CoochDog
2) 7 months, regularly. I started in November 2001, played regularly for 2 months, then played very rarely/casually until this past July. I've been playing regularly again since then, so it adds up to just about 7 months.
3) Always in the arcade. Me no have teh PS2.
4) All 8's, quite a few 9's, and one 10

Name: Little Firefly
How long: 5 months
Where at: Home mostly. Not enough time at the arcade to count it as anything.
What level can I A? comfortably? 7 footers. I can B some 8's

you should be counting play time in hours more than in months.
Take my exemple, I discovered the game 1 month ago and received my first pad (metal) 2 weeks ago.
I played non-stop every day between 3 and 5 hours since i got it and i can pass most 8 feet (not many with an A though).
4 hours * 14 days = 56 hours.
i bet some people didn't even played that much in 3 months E4.gif

That's also interesting to compare your DDR play time/level to others game's lasting appeal. You generally finish a game in 30-40 hours.

Of course there is not going to be a perfect measurement of any DDR Skill Index, but I think this method is good enough to find a basic correlation, if there is any. But so far, there doesn't appear to be one.
