I'd get GF9/DM8. 6/5 has lots of "classic" songs, but 9/8 has a lot more good songs, and I'm pretty sure it has way more songs just in general. All I really miss from the old games is Hypnotica (probably one of my favorite GF/DM songs ever), and all the good new stuff more than makes up for it. Plus a lot of the cool classic songs are still there, like Three Worms, Across the Nightmare, Right on Time, etc.
On top of that, more recent versions have beginner mode, while 6/5 does not. Sucks for people who are new to the game, which means you'll only be making any money from people who have played before and newbies will get discouraged. |
Dude, have you read the Drummania thread?
Most people think GF6/DM5 is the best mix, and who needs a beginner mode when the "basic" level difficulty for almost any song is easily passable? Plus a lot of us seem to agree GF9/DM8 is the worst mix. (I know I do)
Anyway just get any mix OTHER than GF9/DM8, it's not a very "fun" mix.
*Edit:almost forgot to say I started on GF7/DM6, if I can get through that, then anyone can start on GF6/DM5* |

Uh, I have a few ideas:
DDR Extreme: This one's a given, but if you need me to explain, almost every town in the US has an established fan base, and it's honestly a good idea. People are constantly on our machine, and since people already play it, there's little reason to get an older mix. 4th Mix Plus would be interesting to have, if you wanted two machines, though, due to its great songlist.
DrumMania/Guitar Freaks: I don't personally dig the games as much as some others do, but these two have a very friendly look to them, and the non-Bemani crowd would more than likely try them. I'd recommend getting something about middle of the line, since I doubt there's a userbase where you are yet, and you can always upgrade if it catches on. Most of the money from it would be from people who occasionally play it just as a gag, but it will do well nonetheless. I'm under the impression that GF 6th DM 5th would be best pricewise and content wise.
BeatMania (5-Key): I recommend this one because it is outrageously cheap. $600 is worth a risk, and chances are some of the DDR crowd will go over to try it. Again, I doubt there's an established IIDX community in your area, but if this does well you could buy a IIDX machine. I'm not sure what's considered the best arcade mix, but since you could probably get it for far under $1000 anyway, I see no reason why you shouldn't get the one with the best stuff. Maybe Complete Mix 2 would be best?
Pop'n Music: This one kinda works like GF/DM, but I may get it a bit further down the line. If you can find someone with some skill at the game, you'd be pretty set; the game in itself looks awesome when played properly, and would become an instant hit. Getting an old mix would work here, especially since they can be expensive since it's only a 1-Player game, but it'd pay for itself eventually. Pop'n Music 9 is available from Coin-Op Express, but it's about $5500...
Other Stuff:
Initial D: It's not Bemani, but there's always someone on our local machine. I don't play it, but literally everyone else does. They're expensive, but you can't complain when they rake in $200 a day. Get a v2 Machine, if you're gonna get one, but they cost $10,000+ if I'm not mistaken.
Armadillo Racing: Coolest. Game. Ever! Again, it's not Bemani, but people are always playing it. The idea is just too cool. You roll a ball controlling an armadillo. Best idea ever! The machines can't cost more than $400, too, so this one's a must .
Overall, the only one you really need is DDR, but the others would be cool. I'm sure you have a lot of the other stuff covered, but Soul Calibur 2 has a pretty good following, despite the fact that I think the game sucks, so you may want to invest in a couple of those, along with Brave Fire-Fighters, House of the Dead, and other arcade classics. _________________

Most people think GF6/DM5 is the best mix, and who needs a beginner mode when the "basic" level difficulty for almost any song is easily passable? | Uh... no... I don't think I have ever seen a newbie pass their first song on DrumMania. It's not about pdifficulty. It's about the fact that in beginner mode you can't fail. When I've seen newbies play on beginner, they usually totally screw up their first song, but that minute and a half is enough for them to figure it out. Failing in 15 seconds three times in a row isn't, and it's kinda discouraging spending three bucks for 45 seconds of gameplay.[/quote] DoubleTrouble wrote: | Plus a lot of us seem to agree GF9/DM8 is the worst mix. (I know I do) | That just means I disagree with all of you. I'm pretty sure about half of my favorite GF/DM songs are -from- 9/8. DoubleTrouble wrote: | Anyway just get any mix OTHER than GF9/DM8, it's not a very "fun" mix. | Then get 10/9, because anything below 7/6 sucks, IMO. DoubleTrouble wrote: | *Edit:almost forgot to say I started on GF7/DM6, if I can get through that, then anyone can start on GF6/DM5* | Okay, then don't get 7/6 either, if it's harder on newbies than 6/5. Did you have previous Bemani experience? Most of the newbies I've seen didn't, and even the ones that do seem to get screwed over by DrumMania.
It's no IIDX, but without Beginner Mode, DM is a -hard- game for newbies.
SIDENOTE: Oh yeah, I remember now. I've seen -one- newbie that actually learned without beginner mode and didn't fail their first song... me... and I already had a lot of experience with DDR and IIDX. I still took a while to get passing 20s and above. (After that I progressed quickly, but that first step is a bitch.) _________________

No, DM was the first Bemani I've ever played. At the time I just watched the demo before I put my tokens in. I played an easy song, don't remember which... Then played it got like a C and kept on playing the easy songs, until I got it (some people played "Burn" incessently(sp) on all their stages) |

A DDR 5th Mix or Extreme would be cool... I haven't really played any other bemani, but here's a non-bemani thats awesome:
Arctic Thunder
Get 2 and link them... the best thing is it has an AC thing attached! Good thing to play after DDR! _________________
