How to get PS2 original imports to work on a non-modded PS2 with Action Replay 2.

What you need:

Slide Card or Flip top mod.

An original U.S. ps2 DVD disc with a high size Table of Contents (Two I can think of are Grand Theft Auto 3 and Devil May Cry)

Action Replay 2 version 2 or before.

    CD Burner.

What you need to do:

Find the program on the net called cogswaploader. (I don't know if it's legal to download it, so I won't directly link it, but if you look around ps2ownz.com, you should be able to find something on it)

Burn the bin/cue onto a regular cd.

Insert Disc 1 of the AR2 and the AR2 memory card into your PS2 and boot that up. When you get to the main menu in the AR2 program, use your slide card of flip top to remove the disc and replace it with your cd that you just created. Go to start game, without codes, and let the cd boot up.

After cogswaploader shows up on the screen, PRESS EJECT, and put in your US PS2 DVD game (Devil May Cry or GTA3, but there are others you can use....) then hit eject so the try closes. Press X, and it will say something about doing the cogswap. Use your slide card or flip top to take out your US PS2 DVD game and replace it with your Original Import. Press X.

The process is still kind of a pain in the buttocks, but it'll work until I get my swap magic discs.

Hopefully someone will find this information useful.

I've been reading up on several articles and a lot of threads/stickies on this forum, but I'm still stumped on what system, modchip, or swapdisk to use for playing Japanese imports. I heard they're coming out with a PS3, and I really hope that they might drop the prices on the PS2 Japanese. There arn't any shops where I live that would sell them, so I was thinking of buying one online. All of the methods sound kind of risky. I'm currently saving up for a PS2 Japanese, but I was wondering what kind of modchip would work with most DDR imports, that would be cheaper for me, and save me all the hassle of working extra hours. I look like this when sleep deprived O_O. <---Scary, isn't it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

I have had nice luck with my PS2 fliptop, but I am thinking of collecting all prior DDR games. I have a PSOne, that has been used, like twice, and I was wondering, if there were swap disks for the original PS, and do they work with Imports/burns just as the PS2 disks do? When I say burns, I do plan on backing up all of these games, due to the fact, that I probably will pay through the roof for them. Take it as you will, but my intentions are good.

Yeah, there are boot discs for the PS2. I used to have a PSX-CHANGE 2 and it worked perfectly with imports and back ups.

Yah there is a boot disk for ps1. It is only like $24.99 too.

not sure if it works on a ps2 though.

It doesn't work on a ps2 obviously, and 25 bucks is too much for the boot disc, you should be able to buy it for about 15-20 dollars.

Now, obviously, using these disks, I won't have to worry about the mod chip detection in the games will I? Will they detect that I have a US PS1, and not work?

Hi,

I have a "few" questions to ask/was wondering about.

1) How does the DMS chip compare to the Messia 2 and the Magic chip?
2) Can you play online games when you disable the MOD chip (Not copies of the game but the original)
3)..I had more questions but all of a sudden I've blanked out riiight.gif .

Well, those are some things that I would like to know. I'm concidering moding my new and never open PS2. I just want to make sure that I"m making the same choice.

Thanks in advance E13.gif

I reiterate with my question:

How can I get DDR 2nd Remix and DDR Best Hits to work on a modded PSOne?

Will installing a Flip-Top break the warranty sticker?

It looks like it will, but I heard somewhere that the fliptop doesn't void your warranty, so then how does it get around the "void if broken" sticker?

I believe that it will, the fliptop cover, break the warranty tape on the back. That will void your warranty with sony. I do not see a way that you can get around this frown.gif .

From what little I do know, there are few ways of getting around the warranty and not voiding it.

I hope that helps...thought I'm not much of any help E4.gif .

A Fliptop WILL break the warranty.
The slide card will not.

O.k. question of what's right for me...

I want to get some import games for Christmas, but I don't have a modchip/Jap. PS2. My existing PS2 belongs to my brother, so if I do try to insert a modchip, it's my fault if I screw up the system. Unfourtunately, I don't want to burn out my parent's pockets with a Jap. PS2 and then all the things I want furthermore (BeatmaniaIIDX+controller, DDRExtreme Jp, 2 Ignition 2.0-which I'll probably reasearch the imitations to find the thriftiest deal, and maybe Karaoke Revolution)

Jason/Shadow Dragonz: yah, slide cards and fliptops are bad. All modchips will void your warranty somehow, someway.

Mikeweiser : The disc should not be noticeable, if so then I suggest of returning it (i dont have the boot disk so i honestly don't know.).

Irob: I think there is probably nothing you can do frown.gif. The only thing I think you can do is get your brother to ok a modding, getting a job, or trying to find a ps2 jap emulator for the computer.

Istari Asuka: Yah it will break the warranty since you have to replace the whole top.

GoldenJoe: I'm assuming this are both jap or some other region. Well, if they don't work get a boot disk. If it is american then you can always get a pc emulator or anoth er psone because they are pretty cheap.

Shadow_Dragonz: 1. All modchips are the same, don't worry. 2. You should be able to play games online all the time.

Sorry if anything I state is incorrect. An emulator is a program that lets you run LEGAL VERSIONS of psx games on the computer (no dvd drive needed). If you have PS2 games you need to emulate than yes you need a dvd drive, even if it is a cd-rom.

This is true but how many of you have a PS2 that is still under warranty?
The warranty is like 90 days. I got a PS2 the day they came out so installing the fliptop hardly voided my warranty, it was already gone. Not to mention if you did not fill out the warranty card and send it in you have no warranty. Just something to consider if you are queasy about opening the PS2.

Tallest: Both the games are JP as you assumed. I'm just curious as to how everyone manages to import and play these games with no patch. Do boot discs defeat anti-mod protection? The stealth chip I installed is detected by the software, which then terminates. Is there any kind of boot disc you recommend? Thanks.

I have a US PS2, but will be moving to Australia next year. Should I just go ahead and purchase a Mod Chip, or can I get away with having the flip-top only?

I currently only have DDR Extreme Import and probably will be purchasing Aussie PS2 games in the future

Thanks E1.gif
