Well lets start this off by saying Im juice, and 2 weeks ago I ordered a RO metal pad...Lets take you through my voyage of the pad
The shipping took 2 Weeks. 2 damn weeks. I dont even live far away, I live 20 minutes from their warehouse. Taking 2 weeks to ship a package a distance of 20 minutes or so is just Ludacris. Probably the only bad thing about my experience was the shipping. Turned out my package got sent to ohio....How that happened i have no idea. Dont trust airborne express.
When i got my package it came in this HUGE Cardbord box which read RED OCTANE METAL PAD V 2.5...Made In China.
Anywho i unrapped pakcaging after packaging until i saw my pad. It was different from what i had heard. I did not see any sticky white stuff. There was some saran-wrap type material on the actual arrows. On the metal it looked blue and was all scratched. I took a closer look and saw some silver in a little tear under the blue. I started to tear away at the blue and to my suprise it was just a wraping. NO sticky white stuff, No hassle, Cut and tear, Done and Done.
After i picked off all of the little pieces of saran-wrap and blue stuff i stood there and looked at my beauty. Shining and glistning in the sun...It brought a tear to my eye
I thought to myself, what the hell am i doing, Im gonna plug this baby in. I bought the PC Control Box because i wanted to play Stepmania as well as Extreme for ps2. So i plug my pad into my control box which then went into my computer. I map the keys, start a song, and play. Everything was smooth as silk until i got to a Jump (Up/down and Left/right Combo). It didnt register. I checked the settings for the control box and saw the single most shocking, contraversal thing i have ever seen in my life.... It mapped the keys on an Axis. I went to tech support for red octane and they told me to press start/select/and the up arrow key in stepmania. Of course this had no affect because why the hell would it? Anywho i tried what they said to do in the actual Test section of game controlers in Control Pannel and Lucky! It worked
I went back into stepmania, remapped the keys, and No problems at all! When the pad came brand new it creaked alot and wasent that sensitive. But the more i played and abused it, the more it became more responsive.
One of the main things that I am dissapointed about in this pad is the warranty. Only 6 weeks...With a warranty like that its just BEGGING to fall apart... BUT from what I have seen and what I have been told this is untrue. I know some people who have had there pads for 8 months and have had it work just like the first day they got it. I asked them about their short warranty and they told me they they Cover the shipping both ways and will send you a completely new pad to ensure no more troubles, instead of just repairing the one you already have.
Later on i am going to open up the pad and tell you all what I see inside. We have all been told that they do not use Foil anymore, and soon I will prove if they do or dont and if they dont what they use, but for now I hope this could answer any questions you guys might have. I am not trying to Promote or Demote RedOctanes reputation, I am just a consumer posting a review of his product. |

Well....we are glad that your pad is working with Stepmania now... but... to be fair and honest... your package did not take 2 weeks. The metal pad was delayed a little and delivered in 8 days...the control box that you bought extra was delivered in 4 days. So, 8 days is not two weeks.
Just for everyones information =) When you place an order after 1:30 pm pacific time on a friday, it will not be shipped out until that monday. Good to know for this holiday season!!
We hope you enjoy your pad... and it was nice chatting with you on live chat... HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALL!! _________________

Just so ya know, 20 minutes is not a distance
Anyways, this is all nice, but it really means nothing right now as this is the same thing people have been saying about the RO pads since the beginning. The difference (if there is one) will be on the interior. Open up tomorrow and check. Try to get a pic too if at all possible (borrow a digital camera, or scan some pics if you have a scanner available)
To RO: I know you said before not to expect a major change in the pad before christmas, but if such a change were to happen, When do you think it would happen by? I'm getting a metal pad for christmas, and I am leaning towards cobalt flux because of the metal contacts and durablitly, but I would much rather get a RO pad. They look so much cooler And they are more arcade-like. I can always get it as a late christmas present though if you forsee a change relatively soon. _________________

In my opinion, the only 2 pads you should consider are the Cobalt Flux (300 bucks) or the Red Octane (200 bucks). If you don't have enough money for one, then keep saving. _________________
