|
|
I've been thinking about this for a while and I believe that unison mode was truly ahead of it's time. Back when I was playing third mix I would have never have understood the true nature and wonders that unison mode offers. I lacked the skill and the patience to do so.
Unfortunately, it's too late to take advantage of this mode because it is no more. Could you guys imagine how we could have had a whole section of songs devoted to this mode, and how technically complex they could have been. I've always thought that classical music would have been a good genre for unison mode(maybe some light jazz as well). This mode could have been used for the true elitist out there. Oni courses anyone!!!
I'm just really sad that nobody ever realized this when it was around.
Tell me what you guys think about unison mode and it's possiblities. _________________

I dunno what unison mode is, so you might need to explain. I started DDR'ing at EXTREME. Too late for me. _________________

*sigh*... just a click away in the dictionary page, ya lazy so-and-so:
Dictionary wrote: | Unison: Both players share one group of arrows in the center of the screen; the color of the arrows determine which player it belongs to. |
I've never tried it myself; sounds like fun! _________________

Granted back then i wasn't anywhere near as good as I am now, but it was confusing with 4 arrows coming at once, or long streams of arrows all colorful and stuff. Heh heh. Now that I think of it, I really wish they brought it back. _________________

Unison was a really fun little mode. I remember when Dr. Nick and I put up some hilarious high scores on our old 3rd Mix(since we'd also step on arrows even though one of us was supposed to). I'll agree that it's a shame they didn't put this in other mixes. _________________

UNISON MODE WAS THE BEST!! I only played it like 4 times along long time ago when I was just beginning but I thought it was the best thing ever!! Of course I didn't do to good and it felt like my head was going to explode with the blue's red's and white's but it still was the best. They should definatly bring it back. _________________

Hey aku and antonio!!!
"Waves and jumps up down"
Been a while!!!
I might come up to the break in a week or two, and I'll come out to sf before december is out.
Anyway, everyones responses just proves my point. Unison mode really was ahead of its time. I think had the developement team waited till max to bring this mode out, it would have truly appreciated for what it really is.
And for everyone who don't know what unison mode is it was a mode from 3rd mix where two players play one song. Only things is that each player is playing a different part of the song and sometimes they are both playing it at the same time.
It's exactly like hearing two people perform a duet. When you hear two different voices meshing to create on beautiful, hyonotic melody. It truely just goes to show what we all really missed out on.
Take this comparison and apply it to DDR, and you my friends truly have a mode that could have been around today.
Oh well!!!
I can dream can't I? _________________

Lucky me, I still play it all the time on a 3rd Mix machine near here. |

My brother and I still play unison whenever we get the chance at our local 3rd Mix machine. It never occurred to me how many newer DDR players (yes, it says I joined in October, but have been playing since December 2002...just to clear that up) have never even heard of that mode.
I agree with the notion that having unison mode on Extreme machines would result in better freestyling routines. The players would be doing different things at different times, along with hitting their separate arrows, and still managing to look good while doing it. With that, it doesn't look like a Backstreet Boys video. _________________

It's kind of hard to imagine unison mode being used for freestyling. But I guess this is coming form a tech's point of vew.
Besides Unison mode is all tech baby.
Can you guys imagine playing a complicated musical piece that is only possible with unison mode. I mean since when was ddr all about dancing?? _________________

BTW, I wasn't lazy, I was going over to a friends house to show him my new FLCL DVD... I love Naota!

uh, nope. Whatever you're thinking of, battle mode is not the same thing as unison, and futhermore there's nothing remotely similar to either unison or battle mode anywhere on Konamix. The only official 2 player mode on Konamix is plain old versus.
Anyway. I agree with most people in this thread. Unison is fun and should be revived. It could breath a lot more fun into the DDR world |

Actually, now that I think about it, Unison Edit freestyling could actually work. It'd take some more effort, but it could seriously work. _________________

Actually, Konamix offers one set of battle steps for each song, under difficulty selection. Sometimes it's just Easy steps for both players involved, since KoA couldn't be bothered to make battle steps that weren't already done.
And Unison is basically the exact opposite of Battle. In Unison, from what I remember, all the arrows start out in two different columns and come together to from the center column around halfway up. Battle mode is the exact opposite--all sets of arrows start out in the middle and split up into the two different columns halfway up.
...wait, that wasn't Unison, was it. What was that first one I was thinking of, or did it even exist? >_> _________________
