Hey. I have a MadCatz pad. I'd like to mod it. What's the best way to mod it for under 20 bucks?
Also, EBGames now has some RedOctane pad. Is it worth however much it costs (I didn't see a price on it)?

My ignition pad just broke yesterday. Ive had it for about 6 months It lights up but the game wont respond to it. It wa working perfectly the day before but the next day i plugged it back in and i got nothing just lights. Is their anyhting i can do to fix this? .So anyways Im going to buy 2 new ones on ebay but i dont know if theres a difference between all the ignition pads? they have different designs on them. The one i had was the 8 arrow one with red, blue, green, and white. I really liked it and im thinking about getting it again but im not sure if anyone knows if one of the other designs are better. Im only going to buy the ones that they sell 2 for $29.99. Thanks

Has anyone tried to modify the official Xbox pad yet that comes with Ultramix? Does it improve the sensitivity? Also, what could I do to make the arrows more distinguishable from the rest of the pad? Thanks nerd.gif

Okay, I'm modding my pad but when I went to home depot they didn't know what the hell hardwood floor covering was. I saw something like it, but to avoid permantly screwing my pad by picking the wrong materials, could you guys give me a more detailed name or at least a brand.

I had the same problem at Menards. They showed me some netted crap that goes under carpets to keep them in place. I tried pm-ing PitterPanda, but I haven't got a response yet. If anyone knows what the stuff is, speak up.

Hey, I have a question:

How does the Konami pad that comes with the DDR games (specifically Ultramix) work? Is it a flat pad or does it come with the non slip binding that you have to put in the pad? Also, since I'm getting good but I'm still just intermediate, is there a lot of sliding without moderation on flat carpet. If there is, what other ways besides going to the hardware store and buying wood and stuff can I use. Can the chair mat idea be used on the flat Konami pad? If you can give me some answers, that'd be great...

I have the Ultramix pad, and if you are using flat carpet it should be fine. I played Max 300 on Heavy, and it barely moved. It's just a flat pad, but it has sticky stuff on the bottom to keep it in place. I still want to mod mine, and I have everything but that hardwood floor covering crap. Does anyone know what the stuff is? Whether or not you are going to mod it, I would reccomend getting some foam to put under it... it's pretty thin.

well, i have a mod that can work on ALL of ya softpads (hey mobile im back!). I use it for my pc pad (dance master) and ps2 pad (intec). Any of them are yet to show signs of distress, or breaking. The only prob. with the intec is the X, O, TRIANGLE, and SQUARE work as arrows in the game and if i step of to the side it presses it and messes me up. I'm gonna get those damn sensors out soon. Here's a link to my softpad mod:

http://www.angelfire.com/film/njohnson/tt1softpadmod/index.htm

If your wandering how much it is used:
I play it, standard and maniac.
My older bro plays it, light and standard, he also stomps EXTREMELY loud on it, which is funny when he plays laugh.gif .
My lil bro plays it, light.
His friend plays it, light.

So if you see this mod is, durable, great, arcade experience like, and has a unique design. See my site for the unique park E1.gif .

Question about the Red Octane Pad Cover: can you only get those online or can you simply buy them from an EB Games, since they sell Ignition 2.0s?

Also, what is an alternative to the pad cover? I don't need to mod the Konami Pad. Works find only on hard surfaces, but all I need is something to protect it during play.

if that's the light pad, with red LEDs in the top and green arrows in the front, then that pad is pure and utter crap. mine broke down in under a week and i wasn't even playing standard mode.

I just recently got into the world of DDR. Right now, I am planning to buy one or two dance pads, DDRMAX2, and Konamix. I may end up getting MAX later. The question is what dance pads to get. I've looked at all the mods, and if possible would like to avoid them. I would be playing on carpet, and therefore worry about the wood popping off the carpet while I play. I also worry about the wood possibly breaking. I was thinking about a pad not exactly, but like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3059804826&category=21188

I would like to know what exactly a DX pad is. Also, will this pad handle on the carpet, or is that an impossibility with soft pads. I really don't have the money for a metal pad, but would like to get a good soft pad with little or no modding involved. I hope to be able to stay under $70. Could someone please answer some of these questions, and give me some suggestions. Thank You soooo much in advance E1.gif

I am also a beginner. Hence, let me say up front that I cannot speak to the DURABILITY issue. I don't give the pad as hard a workout as more experienced players, nor have I been playing long enough to ruin one from sheer wear and tear.

However, I NOW have three pads, two FIRM (foam insert) and one metal pad. I had a $20 MadCatz that I modded and gave to the ten year old grandkid of some friends.

The metal pad is the BNS (buynshop.com) that sells for $138.95 + shipping. For the price, not bad, I think. I like it. But it's out of the price range you mentioned. I probably will use the firm pads for day to day practice, this one more to get the feel of the arcade platform.

I have the BNS Ultra DX-xtreme that sells for $48.95. Seems like a nice pad, good value for the price. But I haven't used it very much yet. I bought it because BNS seems to offer value. I wanted to compare it for myself. I figure that NO ONE PAD is going to last me forever. Seems well designed and crafted. The foam is denser, firmer than the foam in the MYMYBOX (but at double the price). Only complaints I've read about this mat is the zippers, and my zipper was just fine, thanks.

Mostly, I've been using the cheapest one of the three, the MYMYBOX premium v.2.5 (NOT v2.0) that I bought on Ebay for about $35 including shipping:

http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=lippoon

So far, I find it to be VERY, VERY responsive. But will it last? I don't know that. I've only had it a couple of weeks. And I've had to take some time off due to a heel injury. As I said, the foam insert isn't quite as firm as what the BNS has, but at half the price.

Just my (brief) experience, for what it might be worth.

Thanks for the info. However, I would like to know what makes a pad classified as "DX" If I were to get foam insert ignition like pads, would a mod be essential? Please address this and the other questions that I mentioned above. Thank you.

I'll answer what I can. Someone with more experience will have to address the rest.

With a really soft and featherlight pad like the MadCatz, modding is indeed essential if you don't want your pad to dance away from you.

With a heavier pad with stiff inserts like the BNS Ultra DX-xtreme that I have, modding hardly seems "essential" to me. At least I have no plans to mod the thing. I use it on a very low pile "industrial" type carpet. Seems you'd have to be playing in pure maniac mode to get it to move much. And even then it might work better than some of the arcade pads I've seen. Also, it has slightly raised arrows (enough that you can feel the extra layer of foam -- perhaps ¼" -- with your bare or stocking foot). It seemed an excellent value to ME as a beginner.

For the time when you get good enough to wear out one of these stiff insert pads, I'd suggest saving up for one of the professional stainless steel platform models (or building your own to meet your personal specifications -- which MANY have done). Just my two cents. I hope you'll take it along with the opinions of others and come up with your own conclusions. Remember, I'm a newbie too, and just trying to share my own experience. I'm no expert. If someone here is, then I hope they'll address your questions better than I can.

AS to what DX means, I haven't a clue really. I suggest you ask BNS what they mean by DX, if anything.
