hey all um... i have stepmania 3.0 final working well but whenever i dl stepmania 3.9 alpha 8 and i try to run it, the program crashes. what i'm wondering is am i the only one with a stepmania that crashes and can i fix this myself or is it just something that will be ironed out when the next CVS releases? i really want to try the new CVS releases but i just can't get them to work! if you can give me any tips or info to get this to work, thanks!

I have alpha 7, and it crashes every time I get to the song selection page... ;_;

So, you're not alone..

And, for the curious ones, this happens on EVERY skin I have, excluding the default (Which is as choppy as hell, though...). The error I get when it crashes reads:

"Theme metric 'ScreenSelectDifficultyEX : NumChoices' could not be found in 'Themes/DDR Extreme/metrics.ini' or 'Themes/default/metrics.ini'."

And that's the one for the Extreme Skin that I got from one site, but I forget the name. They've been working on multiple skins though, and I know that their side bar was on the right and they had a green-based theme. riiight.gif

Any help is appreciated! nerd.gif

I have the latest version, 3.9alpha I think. I did a fresh install of the program though. Remove older versions of Step Mania and reinstall the .exe file, that might do the trick. Also, make sure you have the latest Direct X and DivX codecs installed, along with any other min. cpu requirements needed to run Step Mania.

I must say the latest version is by far my favorite and runs much better than any of the other alpha/beta versions I've tried. I even found an Extreme Theme, which still has a few bugs, being a beta version, but works and looks pretty good overall.

well when you install a new cvs version, it does uninstall the previous one. As suggested, get the new divx codecs and direct x, but also get new drivers for your video card if you have one.

the metrics error i have gotten with bad skin coding, i reccomened going to the stepmania website, and getting links to the new skins that come out to fix the error

I forgot which version it was, but one of the newer alpha versions changed the name of some of the skin files, so you have to get skins that have been updated to work with the newest versions. That's probably why the default skin is the only one that works correctly.

Double post, my bad. DDR Freak should turn on rate limits so stuff like this doesn't happen.

The last time you got it working right was a month ago? PM me for the ver. 7 installer, install that and you're good to go.

Also, the log your sending us is almost a month old too...try today and post the log, then ill help you a little more (or just PM me E15.gif )
