I'm 23, and while I am not the best at DDR, I know some fabulous players that are my age or older.

Being younger may help a person pick up DDR easier. But, it is exposure to the game, and practice that makes a person great at DDR.

Just my two cents.

Hey, I'm 53 and only began playing DDR recently. Seriously! E10.gif

You, sir are my hero.

Just adding my two cents: yeah, so I'm 34 (I have the thinning hair to prove it), have 2 kids, and a full-time job.

I also can pass virtually everything (only PSM, PSM oni, and LOM left on Extreme), can pass Max 300 doubles, and have 4 heavy songs stealthed. Making me not the best player in my area by far, but not the worst either.

So uhhh, yeah, age doesn't mean much.

And... my daughter is 8 and can AA songs on light. So there E15.gif

And YOU, sir, are mine.

How long have you been playing DDR? I'm always curious to know how long it has taken people to reach their current level.

I don't expect to progress at the speed of, say, the ten year old to whom I recently gave a copy of DDRMAX2 and my original MadCatz pad. He'll learn more quickly and his young legs will adapt more readily than mine.

But, as I have said, DDR is a GREAT game and a much fun to watch as to play. The kids who play it are a special breed and a pleasure to spend time with. But it's great for kids of all ages. laugh.gif

Right now, my left heelbone is aching a bit, probably from stomping too hard last Friday night at the arcade. It's the only physical problem I've encountered other than my own natural lack of coordination and grace. But I wasn't graceful or coordinated a child either. I was the last kid in the neighborhood to learn to ride a two-wheel bicycle!!!

Thanks for your comments!!!

I've been playing for 1 1/2 years, and most of that time pretty regularly (once or twice a week). So my progress is slower than many folks, but not too bad for an 'old guy' I guess.

I think it's admirable of you guys to play DDR at your ages, as opposed to other people I've seen who will look at the game and claim it stops puberty. (I'm not even joking. I've heard this before.)

Good luck and keep going with it. You've got my best wishes. thumb.gif

Sounds to damned good progress to me, especially if you only play a couple of times a week.

I've only been doing this for a few weeks, but the "B" I just got on "Little Bit of Ecstasy" (Light mode - 4 footer) just moments ago is clearly my greatest accomplishment so far.

I can't recall the very first time I ever played, but it had to be during the last last week of October '03. I bought my PS2 on November 3rd. I'm playing some every day. So ... half a month of home play.

Thanks, man!!!

I love the acceptance and encouragement I've received from the kids at the arcade. So many have told me that they think it's very cool to see someone my age playing, but with out making any big deal about it. And they mean it too. You can tell. Mostly, they treat me like any other newbie on the scene -- with helpful hints and encouragement. And we swap info about our home equipment. You know, the attitude of those who play DDR is very infectious and it makes all the difference for me!!! There's a strong sense of "community" and belonging. It's neat. love.gif

My little brother is good, but we exclude him because he's an arrogant jerk. When I have bunches of people over to play, he always whines that he wants to play with us... we made that mistake once. Never again.

It doesn't help that he's like 13 and the rest of us are mostly in university or college.

Last Sunday, one of my younger cousins turned up. He's roughly 15-16, I think; still a youngun, but he sat quietly and didn't talk much, and the general concensus from the people who did talk to him was that he was pretty cool. He didn't ask to play, but if he had we certainly would have let him. Then he left just as quietly. My little brother does nothing quietly.

Well i'm 26 and have been playing for 2 or 3 years now and i can do standard 6 or 7 songs and have past a few heavy and one oni song, and i'm a very friendly person, the people i play with are really cool and we always like to cheer each other on to pass tough songs. When i play at home because of my pad i don't try to even think about doing standard song on a home pad, without the fear of fall down on my buttok, but all in all if your ever in the richmond, va. i'll be happy to meet ya. Alan-you are so right. The DDR kids are awesome! I got into the game cause three of my kids play and compete. I have become addicted to the game myself. I can pass most 5-6 foot songs on standard and heavy and some 7's all on 1.5 speed. I am finally starting to learn to pivot-I have been playing about 1 year but I don't play as much as the kids do and I guess I'm a slow learner. The kids here are great though and always try to encourage me. I take the kids to tourneys here in Md and in Va and NJ and we always have a great time hanging out with the DDR community. I won't say my age but lets just say I have grown kids myself and my kids that play DDR are 18,14,and 11.
Viva la oldsters!

i'm 13 (almost 14) and i just passed my first 10 foot song.

My disadvantage:
No one actually takes me serious as a ddr player.... I walk up to the machine and yet i am taken as a watcher and not a player. I get ready to play yet someone gose up and shoves the money in before i can do anything. I just go to another arcade where no one plays ddr since last time i tried at that arcade i had to wait ONE HOUR before someone finally stood up for me and said it was my turn.

I quiet so don't say i should've said something even though it's probally true E2.gif ,
I'm famous in my school for not talking just about ever erm.gif .

im only 12 and when i went to a DDR competition the guy wouldnt let me enter (after the tourney) i waited like a hour for the people to get off and got mad so when the people on the machine got off i hoped on and put my money in.. then as i was playing Standar/heavy these kids were like "the only reason these 6 year olds can play is probly cause they have it at home" and all this crap.. Im not 6 im 12 disgust.gif But the worst thing is some of the people that one didnt do that good and i think i wouldve won something if i entered probly..

Thanks. I need some friends E4.gif

I'm 24 with a full-time job and can pass catas/10-footers on both single and double (moreso single 10's). Have started to AAA stuff recently, so the progress has been steady.

Despite being one of the oldest players in my city, I get on with the young 'uns and we encourage each other to improve and so forth. Age is regardless when you all share a common interest. happy.gif

As for the 30+ people, damn awesome! There's also a mother in my area that plays DDR with her two daughters.

Wow, what a great discussion this has been.

My only disappointment has been the unfortunate stories of the 12 year old and the 13 year old who were not being taken seriously by older players.

I hope that this sort of thing is not widespread. We don't see it here, at least not among the players that I know.

Thanks, everyone. You're posts have been great. I hope that the person who first began this thread is still reading it. E4.gif

Pretty rude that they wouldn't even give you a chance! frust.gif We sort of had a similar experience once when my 5 year old son wanted to play and some youngins gave us that look of "You have got to be kidding" . Imagine their suprise when my little guy A'd Matsuri Japan Light. laugh.gif We are a DDR playing family here. I am 31, my husband is 35 and, our sons are 3 yrs and of course the soon to be 6 year old who is working on 5 ft in light mode. Our 3 year old still has no clue but, he keeps trying!

My Husband and I have recently ventured into standard/trick level and, are doing ok with it. My husband built us DDRhompad's metal pad a year ago and, is planning on building two new ones soon so we can challenge each other some more. Right now we have the one home built metal pad and, a soft pad which neither of us like playing on so, playing simultaneously hasn't reached it's full fun potential yet although, we push each other with trying to one up the other LOL. We have Max, Max2, the original/DDRusa and, Konamix. At first our neighbors and family thought we had lost our marbles but, now they have admitted that it's good exercise and, alot of fun so, a few have them have purchased the game to play at home themselves. I always tell people my age or, older, don't knock it until you try it and, if your embaressed play it in the privacy of your own home. We have only recently began playing on every arcade machine we come across. This was a fun thread for me to read.

As long as we are addressing the skill level of the "old guys".....

I'm 26 and I'm not amazing, but I can crank out an 800+ combo on a string of songs 6 feet and under. I can also "A" most 9 footers and even a "fake" 10 footer (Bag with speed mods). Still can't touch the rest of that 10 foot stuff. My legs would fall off if I tried to move them that fast. E1.gif

One thing about being my age is that I certainly don't "look" like a DDR player. I've definatly gotten some puzzled looks from the crowd when I jump on a machine right after work and flail around like crazy in my shirt and tie.

Believe me it's not a good thing E4.gif

I eventually took it off so i wouldn't faint from the heat, i was just scared i was going to forget it if i took it off....
