every once in a while in this forum, i see a post like: "this little kid was really bothering me while i was playing ddr, so i turn around during the song and kicked him in the face stupid little kid" wtf! man you people need some fucking serious help if you do this, thats just sick.
and when i was at the acrade last week, this guy was playing some oni course on ex, and had like a 600 something combo, then all of a sudden he fails. so what does he do? he goes to the machine, smashes his fist against it and screams "DAMNIT!" what is with people these days? someone needs to remind them that its just a damn game, and theres no need to get all pissed off about anything.
if people mock you for playing it, guess what, welcome to life, people are going to disagree with what you like, and they are going to make fun of you for it. deal with it, without losing your head.
ok, so thats my story
who thinks ddr has gottn too competitive? |

LOL, I know what you mean. Some people do take this game a bit too seriously...sure, there are competitions and all, but there really is no need to take it to the extreme.
But, I did think the Kick the Kid quote was funny, so I have a new sig as of yesterday (that's when I saw it). |

I don't know if the fact that certain players may have anger management issues means that DDR has become too competitive.
Frankly, it isn't competitive for my friends and myself. We will play vs, but that is only because it is more fun to play with others. I find there are times that I get too involved in trying to pass a particular song. However, this is always in the privacy of my own home, I never break anything, and I always push myself in things.
So, no, I don't think DDR is too competitive. |

I wish i had someone to actually compete with |

I always feel weird after playing a Max and then FoY'ing it right at the end.... not because I failed an insanely hard song, but because I always curse right at the end =-/
I wouldn't say it's because I'm "too competitive." I'd hardly consider myself competitive at all... One time I was playing with a girl at my local arcade who I didn't know, and one of her friends yelled at me "don't get beaten by a girl" and I just laughed and continued playing. She did better than me, but I still didn't care.
It's just sometimes, when you were "this close" from (pick one: beating, AA'ing' AAA'ing, FC'ing) that song, it makes you upset. Failing at something you worked hard on is upsetting no matter if you're being competitive or not.
Besides, it's better they curse and kick the machine than to yell at other players and piss off other players. (well... as long as it doesn't hurt the machine either....)
My point: anger != competitiveness

I'm competitive, but that's every once in a while. On topic, I do think DDR has got very competitive. |

I try to play for fun myself, but with the way things are in my area it seems, you aren't looked up apon unless:
A) You've triple AAAed stuff
B) You've passed some tough doubles
C) You get the crowd that just enjoys others playing the game
I've done B and C...but A I don't care about too much. We'll see if that's my downfall at a tournament I'll be attending. |

i don't think DDR has gotten too competitive. people are trying to get better and better. i don't think someone is going to play DDR, and NEVER want to improve, just because they're playing 'for fun'. most people LOVE challenges, so they push themselves harder to complete their goal, and when it's so close to them, and some little kid messes them up, or they screw up on that last step for a AAA, of course they're going to get pissed, because they almost beat their goal, and would have another limit to push themself to, thus, making it more fun.
*shrugs* that's my $0.02. _________________

Well not me personally but all my friends are very competitive... it's not even funny! I mean I play on the machine at the arcade and if they do bad as in a B they complain saying that I made the mat slippery because there was dust on my shoe but, I didnt have a problem at all. Also it's like the first person to beat a new 10 is like God to them. I fail and they laugh at me and say haha ect. I don't no why I'm friends with them lol. _________________

haha, my friends arent too competitive since there is only ONE friend i have that is at my level if not a bit better... and the others are like playing light and stuff... but yeah, at the arcades... you got these groups of people that are freestyling and then yelling at their gf's cause they were "cheering too loud" (?)
meh, what can you do? Its been goin on for a while... not just DDR... remember M vs C 2? "OH MY GOD, YOU KILLED MY COMBO!!" and poopy... _________________

uh cowman, how do u fail songs if u double a'ed every song except fora few (ur sig) Thats quiet odd because being that good at pa, your friends should be bowing down to you since having that pa also means that most 10's shoudlnt be hard at all _________________

In a lot of areas in NYS, his accomplishments (as well as those of mine, which are terrible next to his) are looked upon as poopy. If someone tried to say that he can "AA" every non-pie in the game and brought him to the place where I play, he'd be good, but not great. In both the places I play (Albany and Syracuse, NY), we have players who do stuff like "AA" every pie and do even crazier stuff like 2 greats on Leading Cyber.
Anyway, I think he was JUST talking about the new pies that have come with later mixes, like Max. (period) is gonna be. Cowman...watch everyone WHORE themselves on Rahk, Chuck, and 'Flex as they pass (and I'm predicting 'Flex will "AA") Max. (period). |

i stopped having fun playing ddr when i started getting too competitive. i used to get mad when i saw somebody better than me, and i would always think screwed up thoughts about them like, "well the only reason HE'S so good is because he probably plays at home!" so yeah, it is too competitive. but in a way it's a good thing. people play for bragging rights and to defeat others. it truly is a beautiful thing. but DAMMIT, why am i not good?! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... j/k _________________

I think honestly it depends where you play...where I am...the area in general is very competitive...
but at the arcade that I play at...it's very mellow...no real huge names play here at all and it's very nice...
BUT the best freestyling girl in the state and possibly the US plays here almost every weekend because she works at the arcade I play at all the time! Then we have our usual local group of young teenagers that play there once and a while...that play for fun...I do try to PA but I also play for fun...and the girl (Tsinay Butterfly) that plays I know already plays for fun! She's also very very awesome in general...kinda like my older sister...in a way...she's awesome.
Good question though...
in general...yes I think it's getting out of hand and it's ridiculous. _________________

People have gotten too uptight about doing well and forgotten the simple fact that it is merely a game. Loosen up people. _________________

Well asking me this question is like asking me why I play without the bar.
First, I believe that people should be competative because I like seeing people give it their all. I like seeing strong apponents fight to end. If everybody played for fun then there would be no reason to be good. People are always redefining what it means to be good, and I like seeing that. It always lets me know that maybe that the sky isn't the limit and maybe heaven is. _________________
