First off, I'll say I scrolled through several pages of this forum, and didn't see a topic like it (either that or I overlooked it somehow).

Second, I'll say I thought hard about where to post this, and came to the conclusion that this was the best forum to do it in. Sorry if I thought wrong.

Alright, now let's get to the point of this thread.

I'm aware there are rules on this forum (I've read the FAQ); and I know that you, the moderators, are here to enforce them. That much should be obvious to anybody.

What I'm wondering is, do you guys have pet peeves as to what you really hate to see in the forums? Stuff that's not in the FAQ but ticks you off anyway? Infractions you tend to give out a lot of points for?

Or, on the lighter side, what are your favorite rules to cite, or your favorite infraction (or one you thought was hilarious and you were almost sorry to have to give out points for because it was so funny)?

Hopefully, you can see the purpose behind this thread; it's not a request to know what the rules are, but something unique. I'm just wondering about this stuff because, as a newbie to this board, it'll help me stay away from doing anything really dumb that'll get me points or a ban. And it should also be informative to any other members who decide to read this thread.

Thanks ahead of time.

Judging by appearances, I'd say it's the "Read the FAQ" one. E13.gif

Holy crap. Spike changed his Avatar. O_O

My main pet peeve is when I get PMs (or posts directed at me) like "Hey dumbass, you shouldn't have warned me. Think, for the fucking love of God and take my points off."

Usually they're wrong, but they've been right before. Either way, being a bitch isn't a good way to make me see things your way. If I'm wrong, I still take the points off, but I usually wait a while if someone was rude. E15.gif

I did change my avatar =O It's odd to have a different one right now.

Anyways, I also don't like people who PM me or post telling me that I'm wrong and that I have no right to warn them. I actually had someone say "I question if you even read the threads you lock." So of course I give them a page long explanation as to why it deserved to be locked and why they deserved to get any points (if they did).

They tend not to respond after that biggrin.gif

Jesus wants you to get this "cloud" out of his face.

Anyway, I'd say mine is people who don't read the forums contents before posting. Like, the existing stickies or the description of the forum. I've locked threads more often that way, than for flaming/postwhoring.

And I can't stand when people think it's funny to steal my name, or make variations of it.

LIKE EVERYONE RIGHT NOW.. jk

when I started being a mod my pet peevee was being asked how did I became a mod and if s/he could be a mod

when that stopped, my next one would be people bitching about their right to flame

When people question why I gave out warning points to them (in a non-civil. manner). I don't mind being questioned like "Can I ask why I was warned? I don't understand ____." but stuff like "hey you frick doggy! stop warning me doggy!!!" (you get the point).

Oh I also hate when Spike tries to give subliminal message via his banner.

I think the warning system here is one of the most fair warning systems I've ever seen. I've only gotten points once (and I knew I had it coming when I did - I even 'fessed up to the mod who gave them to me in a PM), but I think the explanation I was given in the PM was more than enough to explain things. It was fair, and it was simple.

I despise when I will warn someone based on the FAQ and then they will try to find a loophole to use as to why they shouldn't be warned.

I despise when I warn someone and they think that swearing at me and calling me names is going to make me change my mind about warning them.

I despise that I can't have my AIM name in my profile because if I do, I'll get 80 billion messages on AIM about 'OMGZ LET'S TALK TEH DEE DEE ARR' or 'This needs a warning and a lock, and this too, and this too, and this too'. Why can't board business be kept primarily in my PM box?

I despise when people think that being negative about everything under the sun makes them look cool.

Similarly, I despise when people have to poo poo on something that other people are having fun with deliberately to try to ruin other people's fun.

That's just what I can think of right now. I guess over 2 years of modding has made me a bitter old wench. E10.gif

Same thing happened to me for the first few days. They think new moderators has some kind of power to get others in. In fact, we have the LEAST amount of power being new.

Oh yes, I did have a problem with that myself. But now I have privacy on my AIM name, and a "screening" screen name for the AIM button (an AIM bot). It works wonders and makes a great laugh at the people who don't know that it's a bot.

I don't mind other mods telling me about mod stuff over AIM because it's a faster way then PM's.

But I keep my AIM name private from the public E10.gif

When people do stuff they know aggravates me, just for the heck of doing it >_< (That's mainly directed at UK riiight.gif )

I've only ever had one PM asking me how I got to be a mod frown.gif And I love being a semi-anonymous mod. No-one bugs me over AIM/MSN. I get more random messages from people who've found me through DDRUK or bemanistyle than here riiight.gif

*so unloved* E2.gif

Wow, I can totally relate to this! When I became a mod on one of my friend's sites (below the sig) I got alot of crap about it. People were flaming like crazy, and wondered why I locked every thread they bitched in. It takes a while before a new mod gets ANY respect at all, which is why I try not to do anything to piss off any of the mods here. E10.gif

This site is actually really leanient on users (with the warning points system) , we dont use that on my boards, we just go straight to the ban thumb.gif .

For those of you thinking being a mod is an easy thing, think again E13.gif .

I'd guess that it's more tedious/boring than it is difficult.
