I bought an RO pad about two months ago, but ended up returning it and asking for a refund (which is still being processed). My entire experience can be seen from my various posts during the last 5 or 6 pages of the big RO thread. Anyway I'll repost my impressions on how to make the pad better

im just curious, dont get offended spoonsman but, how much do u weigh? How often do u play ddr? What are ur common songs?. I want to know because from what u described, the arrow got ANNIHALATED.

I weigh about 140lbs, though within the time I had it many other people played on it that ranged from around 130 up to about 200. Around 1500-2000 songs were played on it in that six weeks. As for the songs they varied from the speed tens to "freestyling" on 5 footers.

I put that pad through heavy usage in the time I had it pretty much to see how well it would hold up. It failed.

I sent my RO pad back 3 weeks ago for an exchange and havent heard anything back.

and I have sent 2 E-mails asking the status and havent heard anything I wish RO would listen to me.

alright i emailed RO and told them that their offical USB adapter didn't work and didn't come with drivers, i could press everything but up and down or left and right at the same time. i then did a search for the drivers that windows installed and i found 2 results on Google and they were both in japanese. so if you have this adapter tell me what drivers your comp is using, and if possible send them to me please!

Are there any reasons that I shouldn't get this pad (Metal Pad) that is due to me being clumsy? (this is all about moving the pad around from place to place) I can easily curl 40 pounds, but the only concern that stays with my parents that opposes getting this DDR pad is the fact that I might bump into things with the metal edges and scratch things up.

hard arrows

a back bar (after seeing those lik sang pads we know its possible)

lights under the arrows

a tough and long lasting system for the sensors

make it more then 2 inches thick

a good gripping surface under the pad

a kit for doubles

cant think of anything else at the moment.

I think adding a metal bar on the back as a standard feature is kind of pointless. For one, not everyone uses it/even needs it at all. I mean, sure I can see people freestyling to it, but all in all, I think it should be sold separately. If the bar is built in (and I'm still not sure if you mean making something that simply connects), it completely destroys the concept of portability. Mind you it's like 40 pounds already, but at least it doesn't need to be spun and navigated through rooms. I don't know, I would just never use a bar for anything.

the bar doesnt have to be built in , it could be optional.

but i mean either way this is a metal pad we are talking about and metal pads arent that portable anyway.

A bar on a home pad would be pointless. Unless you have a doubles kit, then you shouldn't need it for balance, with the possible exception of some really hard catas or ten footers.

And freestyling or bar raping with it would be idiotic. The thing is FORTY POUNDS. It is NOT going to stay put if you put all your weight on the bar or try to do tricks with it.

Optional would be my vote.

Anyway, my problem is less technical and more about prices themselves.

To be honest, I have an issue with how expensive your Ignition Pads are. And this is by comparison of RecOctane Ignition pads to the LevelSix version you can find at http://www.levelsix.com ... the one I got in particular is at this link.

Just to be specific. Don't want to confuse anyone on which pads I am talking about.

I have one of each, the RO version being the first I got and the LS version the one I got a year later. Frankly, I see absolutely no difference between the two. Both pads work just the same. The hard foam is the same. And the fabric used on the outside is the same, along with raised arrows.

But the major difference is that they sell their versions for about $50 less than the RO version.

I'd honestly like to know why your version costs so much more, because after playing on both and seeing little to no difference whatsoever, I can not see why you make your version cost so much more.

How about putting a PSX-style controller port in the front of the pad or in the control box? That way you don't have to worry about having X/O selection buttons on the pad - You can just plug a controller into the pad, and the pad passes through the controller button presses. This way, people can have a more arcade-authentic style doubles configuration without having to plug/unplug the pad for setup and whatnot.

This also makes it easy for cabinet modders to make their own DDR cabinets using RO pads and an external controller wired for the selection buttons.
