Whatever type metal they have, RO should follow suit, I do believe they are though due to the amount of complaints and suggestions. When they do, I'll get one, but right now I'm waiting on my CF, due in 2 weeks........ biggrin.gif

Ok got my pad today. I'll post pictures later. There are some scratches on it and near the bottom of the pad like one little dot of paint is bubbling. no big deal really. Also when I step on the left arrow it makes a weird cracking sound if I step on it a certain way. Is that normal? Also, the squares with out the arrows are blue, instead of silver. It looks like it will get the job done. I'll take it apart in an hour and see if the contacts are thin metal or foil.

If anyone can address my issues with the pad, that'd be great. Thanks

A dot of paint is bubbling, a cracking sound, and the metal parts blue? I'm not sure, but it sounds like someone forgot to take of the protective plastic thing E15.gif

lol.. well there was plastic on all of the arrows and that came off perfectly. Now the blue stuff.. the screws are fastened on that stuff. Are you saying that comes off?

Yeah! It protects the panels. If you read the second page you would have seen it:

Anyways, I'd like to see the pics! Especially one of the inside.

ok I've had the pad for a few days and am not doing any better than I was on the Ignition 2.0. BUT, I can attribute that to the fact that I have little-to-none arcade experience and its a totally different experience playing with shoes. I have been playing with my sketchers which are quite heavy. Am I supposed to be playing with a pair of light sneakers? At any rate, the contacts are foil, I did check that out, so I don't see the point in posting pictures of it. I did talk to the chick that works for RedOctane via AIM and she mentioned a mod you can do to resolve the foil issue. I will tackle that when the foil sensors break down, which I doubt. Honestly, it is not that big of a deal. The foil sensors are literally taped on there and putting on thin, metal contacts would not be a problem at all. Any suggestions?

Do you guys think that the metal pad would do bad on a hard wooden floor (to the floor, not the pad). The problem is that my birthday is in a week and my parents' only concern now is the scratching of the floor or anything harmful to the floor. I figured there might be rubber pegs, but I don't know.

The entire bottom is covered with grippy rubberlike material. I don't see it scratching the floor.

the contacts on the metal pad are covered by foil. I was talking about switching them with thin metal.

The foil sensors will break down. Everybody who has had a metal pad that uses foil says that the foil will start to tear and get marks on, it will eventually fall off and onto the sensor, making the contact. It may seem fine right, now, but it'll get bad in awhile.

BTW, is there anybody with the new "thin metal" contacts on the board? If you have them, can you take some pics?

I ordered one Red octane metal pad on 11/12/03. If I get a hold of a digital camera, I will try to open the pad to take some pics of the new thin metal sensors...

So, you don't have a digital camera? I really hope you can get some pics as everybody would like to see these new "thin metal" contacts.

Okay, so, the RO Metal pad my family bought me as a birthday present came today. I just have one question. I know that, if everyone is correct and RO has followed suit, it should have thin metal contacts. I'm just wondering: If they are indeed still foil, this is a REPLACEABLE problem, right? Meaning, I can fix it if the problem arises?

I just got my other RO pad today. Still have not opened it up to see the contact but the first one I received a week ago did have foil contacts but let me tell you, they are EASILY replaceable. I have not had any problems with it either.
