Dear DDR Freak... I was wondering how you get the videos. Is their a way that you ask for peoples Videos or do you go to any DDR Tournments and tape record it? _________________

According to the video page, it says:
Quote: | If you taped a tournament outside of California, and would like to see those videos hosted on this site, please send us an email. |
I believe the most common way is that you send them a video, and they encode it.. although, I'd imagine that takes longer than if you were to encode it yourself before contacting them.
Keep in mind taht I'm not sure exactly how they go about it, I'm sure v00j00 or an admin would be able to answer this much more accurately. _________________

Many of the newer videos showing up are ones that have been on my personal site for a while. But, they are just recently appearing because we now have a new video server after the video page went down. _________________

Well, for one, we were no longer able to use the server that we were using due to bandwidth issues (i.e. people watching them 3 tiems a day without downloading them). So we tried to find a new server (and I believe we're still working on that) so that we can get more videos up. _________________

What's the progress on the vids right now...does anyone know when the already-encoded Playland Tourney vids are going to be up? Just wondering.... _________________

We will make an announcement (either in Site Feedback and/or the Front Page) when it comes back up.
As for how we get the videos onto DDR Freak, there are two ways.
1) One of the DDR Freak staff members records a tournament, encodes the videos, and uploads it.
2*) Someone records a tournament, encodes the videos, and uploads/sends it to us.
*Last time I checked, no hard copies of videos were accepted (as many tournament videos would be sent in.
Note: The above may be subject to change. _________________

If streaming the videos is constantly dragging down the system, why haven't the videos been put in zip archives to force people to download them instead? _________________

I know this maybe tedious (and I know you just said subject to change), but what if we sent you the vids anyway, and you all alternate between hosting videos.
For example, one week would be B3, the other week would be Powerstation South Gate, another week is CSA Albany 2, something like that.
I might have mentioned it before, but some of the old-school videos might have worn out their welcome. There's been a crizap-load of tournaments that can replace the ones that are three years old. Plus, freestyle has evolved. If you want to keep a mix of old school and new school, then keep some of the more well-known videos (like KidZero's Stomp to My Beat at Rhythm Generation and Bui Brothers Brilliant 2U Orchestra Groove at Santa Monica) and take out the others which are then replaced with the new-school videos.

The problem w/ the server right now is that their DNS is resolving to the wrong address. I have emailed them about it, but since the service is free, it might not be an immediate response. _________________

If people are really being so silly about these videos, then perhaps running a BitTorrent tracker *would* be a good idea. Especially for those individuals running systems out of college dorms... _________________

So I'm assuming the space is available, just the server is down at the moment? Does that mean that there were lost videos that were uploaded that are not accessable yet in the video section? (i.e. the Playland vids) _________________

I'd be willing to help with Bit torrent. I'm not on a resnet or anything, but at worst I get 20k and best 40-50K upstream which is more than sufficient to start and perpetuatue most torrents. we could just get 4 or five people who rotate every once in a while...from there, it should take care of itself. _________________

To be honest, I don't think most people on here are smart enough to use BitTorrent _________________

True enough I suppose. Still, for those who know how--and I'm sure there's more than a few-- it might be nice, or at leats the torrents could be initiated upon request some times or something.
It beats them just collecting dust on the server's drives _________________
