I heard it came out yesterday (well in some places) and wondered if anyone has it or has played it, and can give a short review of what they think so far.

Also, I don't quite understand how it works--what's stopping you from humming or whistling the songs? How does the PS2 know if you're actually "singing"? Seems like that could make it less fun. E2.gif

I'd really love to have this game but I'll ask someone to give it to me for Christmas most likely.

I can't really spend money on it because I need to save for Ultramix.

You could hum the songs if you want. It's only made to recognize pitch and range of your voice.

But why the hell would you play the game to hum it?

The game is out. I bought it earlier today. Yes, you can hum or sing the wrong lyrics and it won't know. It only cares about pitch. I will say this: The pitch recognition is dead accurate.

Yeah, you don't have to say the right words. I play-tested it and someone else brought that up, but I just remarked that if you're going to pick up the game and play it, you're probably going to want to sing. It measures your pitch really well though, as Chibi Nappa says. I definitely suggest it if you're considering getting it.

I got it, and it's pretty fun. Of course, I'm a loser and the only songs I know I either can't do or are some of my sister's favorites (You better shape up and Complicated). And, yeah, you can just hum a lot of it, but it isn't fun (though, I was able to get a gold record on It's the end of the world as we know it just by holding a note during the fast parts, I'm such a cheater).

Just picked it off from GameStop today and it's soooo fun. It's a bit hard if you aren't familiar with the songs, though; the amount of song details that you have to memorize exceeds DDR by far. It's so much easier if you've heard the song a million times and you sang it in the shower.

So far, I have "Every Morning", "Kiss Me", "Everything You Want", "Waiting For Tonight" (who doesn't know this one?) under the platium belt simply because I know the songs already; I'm working up platium on older classics like "The Power of Love" and "When a Man Loves a Woman". Tough.

Everyone is right about the pitch evaluation; it's dead on, but you can fudge it by humming. If you do that, though, you'll look beyond an idiot (you'll look like an idiot anyway singing the song)... plus it's just more fun singing, like how you shouldn't be playing MAX2 with your duelshock controller.

So fun. Too bad it's going to be something I'm only willing to do at home... alone...

Meh, the only thing I've figured out how to unlock is costumes, though I unlocked One Week by finishing showtime mode once. I'd like to know how to unlock more, though.

Song unlocks are:

One Week - finish Superstar mode.
Ladies Night - finish Beginner Arcade with medals in everything.
Smooth Criminal - finish Intermediate Arcade with medals in everything.
Science Genius Girl - finish Advanced Arcade with medals in everything.

More characters can be unlocked by beating each of the three arcade mode settings and getting Platinum on everything.

Note that your grading setting doesn't matter (thank god).

The game owns. And as one of the definitions of Pitch:

dictionary.com wrote:
Any of various standards for this quality associating each tone with a particular frequency.

Don't worry, they spelled it wrong. I'll have them change it.

I bought the game yesterday and I love it!!
I have a cold right now, so I really suck at it, but it cracks me up.
The guy that I picked just kinda stands there and nods his head. He's hilarious to watch. The funny thing is, I would probably look just like him if I stood up and did real Karaoke!!

I just got my own copy this weekend... loving it! I don't know if I'll get as much play out of this as DDR, but then again, what will?

Sure you can! There's a fat Elvis impersonator guy that you can unlock. He's actually kind of scary looking.

I like singing "It's the End Of the World As We Know It" but I have a really hard time not laughing when I screw up the words.

Wow ... I remember when everyone used to tease and joke about how bad this game could possibly be. laugh.gif And now all I am hearing is how everyone is loving it so much.

I'll have to get it this weekend. A shame it costs so much, though. E2.gif

It's the End of the World as we know it = top tier
Everything You Want has massive whoring potential

For those people concerned about cost, its my understanding that the game will get unbundled in January.

Which is for the better, because the headset that comes with the bundle is not shaped well at all.

The headset isn't all that great. I just hold the mic from the earpiece (like the guy in the One Week video. I swear, he stole my idea E10.gif).

I haven't had any problems with the mic myself, I wonder what the problem is.

Depends on your head size. Doesn't work great for me either.

Anyone want to help me with the Mic Gain? It seems like the most accurate setting is always the LOWEST.

Where can I find a great PS2 compatible hand mic for this game?
