I ordered my RO a while ago and it comes Wednesday. At first I was excited what with all the Good reviews but now everyone says it Sucks because of the Contact System. I'm annoyed but can someone direct me to a Contact System Replacement Guide for Foil to Sheet metal. Like the one I heard about for the BNS Metal Pads.
Wow, on a side-note Extreme rocks! _________________

Your best bet would be just to use it, and keep using it, until the day it dies. No reason to fix something that isn't broken, and you could risk breaking it yourself trying to do something that isn't really needed at this point. |

I second that, if ya want it to last, go for the CF, who cares if it's not similar to arcade, you'll still sweat your @$$ off, but never have to worry about it ever breaking. |

This is what i wrote to Red Octane
Dear Red Octane,
As a DDR player, I want to not only be able to play DDR at the arcade, but also in my home. I want to buy a metal pad, because I do not have the time to make one. I am sure you are aware of a company called Cobalt Flux which sells metal pads for $300.00. I do not like the look of their pad, or the fact that is flat. The look of your pad is better, and as I hear it has more of a Arcade feel to it. Now I do not know if you realize this, but people avoid buying your pads because of the contact system(foil). I am one of the people that avoids buying it(and I am not alone on this, a lot of people say the same thing). If you upgraded your contact system to something like Sheet Metal I guarantee that SEVERAL and yes I do mean several more people will buy your pad. In your About Us page it says Our customers and the services we offer have grown considerably since we started, but we continue to maintain the highest commitment to customer satisfaction, unbeatable service, and unmatched value. If this is true, please take this into consideration the company will not regret it. |

A few days ago, I sent an e-mail to them that read:
Quote: | So I was reading rave reviews on your Metal DDR Pad. People saying how responsive they are, how durable they feel, and so on. I was about to order one until I saw this:
http://www.savageddr.com/redoctane/inside1.JPG
FOIL CONTACTS?! Argh! Every other metal DDR pad by every other manufacturer that used foil contacts suffered the same problems. The foil peels off, creating an arrow that constantly registers a step or burn marks.
The best method for creating the panels would be sheet metal. Cobalt Flux pads use sheet metal (http://www.angelfire.com/freak2/bsphil/incf.jpg), and people that build their own metal pads use sheet metal. Sheet metal doesn't peel off. Sheet metal doesn't tear. Sheet metal doesn't get burn marks.
I can't believe that RedOctane chose to use the foil contacts instead of sheet metal!

Today, I got a reply. It says:
Quote: | Good Day
Just to let you know at one point we did use the foil contacts. From what
I have been told, all the new pads will be using a thin metal, I do not
think that it is sheet metal, I think it is a little thinner, but it covers
the entire arrow so, no little edges to peal up. |
So it looks like they've switched to something similar to sheet metal. Someone needs to order a pad today or soon or something and tell us what is inside.

I ordered a pad this past Thursday and should have it by this thursday. I'm hoping they started this last week. I'm probably going to wind up buying another pad tomorrow to complement this one. It would suck if one was foil and one was sheet metal. I will post pictures when I get the pad on Thursday if it is not foil. |

Well, its a start
My CF is supposed to get in here in 2 weeks, but I live in Canada so it has to go through customs, which might make it tops 3 weeks.
But when I get it, ill be sure to post a review, and good pics of it, unless there already is a review on it around here. |

Same here
BTW, here's the e-mail I sent them:
Quote: | Dear Sir or Madam,
I have been playing DDR at the arcades for a while, and recently I have become interested in purchasing a new metal pad. The two pads I am considering are your new hard pads, and the Cobalt Flux pads. Although the general consensus of the DDR community has long been that the CF pads were the best, your new metal pads seem to be a viable (and much less expensive) solution. I especially like how the pad looks in comparison to the CF, the extended platform, the non-slip surface as opposed and the fact that from what I hear, the general feel of the pads is much more similar to that of the pads in the arcade. However, there is one issue that would decide which pad to buy: the Cobalt Flux pads uses 26 gauge sheet metal for contacts, while the RedOctane pads allegedly only have foil contacts, which are prone to damage resulting in an unusable pad. I have heard that you recently switched in favor of something other than foil contacts. Is this true, and if so, do you even plan on doing so?
Thank you for your time.

Should've been "and if not, do you ever plan on doing so", but I was tired. They know what I mean. |

i have a quick question... everyone says that the cobalt flux pad is not like the arcade pad. can anyone tell me exactly how different? like do the arrows go down a little bit like in the arcade, and do they light up? because im debating like many others weather to buy cf or ro. _________________

The CF is flat, unlike the arcade, and it doesn't have lights. There is no commercial dance pad that has light like the arcade! The others, including the RO, just have 3 small LEDS on the very sides of the arrows. Nowhere near like the arcade. Get the CF.
Even though RO says that they now are using a "thin metal" I still think they should use sheet metal. That thin metal is probably crappy as hell. We need somebody to test out the new version of the pad. Hey Katism18, how good are you at DDR? Because we need somebody that is good so we can know how the "thin metal" does during a vigorious workout.
Hey NYDANCE, I would really like to read the review and see the pics when you get your CF!

No its not. The guy who works there just said that its not sheet metal, just a thin metal.
