While cobalt flux may last, I have a few problems with them.
Look stupid
Start and Select button placement
No indentations.
Truthfully, the first reason is my biggest problem with them. Look at ROs on the other hand. Look freakin awesome. If they added lights on those things (like where the arrow actually lit up) that would be awesome. _________________

...right...um...i really like the look, it's not shinny, but you can definately make i shiny with a little windex or something, i dunno...ill try that when i get my own...
and one more thing, yeah it may look better, but i would much rather have a pad that's gonna LAST...well...since im gonna be playing ON IT...and not just LOOKING AT IT...and appreciating it's shiny glory.
Since the start button is used soo often...that's really a HUGE DRAWBACK...not that the X button can be used to select style, difficulty, song...hold for mods...and x to end mod screen...
The RO pad, i've never played, but i've heard that the indentation is not even that great, it's there, but it's still no where near as indented as the arcade. |

Wouldn't it? I would love to have a pad with foil (cheap) contacts, and a cheap frame that falls apart. But it looks cool. |

Mind if I use that list in a letter to RO (I may modify it a bit)? Or you can do it yourself if you want. I just think RO needs to know this kind of stuff so that they CAN improve. |
Sure, go for it. Remember one thing though- the current design of the pad from a solely playability POV is great. The main area they need to work on is product durability. Everything else I said that doesn't have to do with durability are pretty much my suggestions to make it more like the arcade.
From the playability standpoint there is one main thing that I would do, which is to make the solo arrows optional. The seperator betwen the side/up arrows and the solo arrows are annoying. I was having fun and screwing around once and did a knee drop for the hell of it. My knee landed on the metal strip seperating the up and solo arrow. Ouch, it hurt.
As for this testing, it seems like they just went for feel of the pad more than how long it lasted. From that standpoint I wouldn't quite call the testing BS as the pad does play very nicely.
The RO indention is more pronounced than CF, but not as much as the arcade. RO still plays vastly more like the arcade than a CF. IMO the RO looks much better too. |

Ok, so I hear the CF is flat. But I hear from most people that if you play on a flat pad at home, the arcade is alot easier. Is this true? A myth? Or different for everybody.
Is there anything that makes the RO better then the CF? Either then you feminines that are all concerned about looks.
Besides it looks pretty sweet to me.

I'd ask what crack they were on. General logic states that if you practice more on a pad that feels like the arcade, you'll be better at the arcade.

RO feels more like the arcade and also looks better

That makes no sense
The RO pad looks MUCH nicer than CF in person. |

What i don't get is why if you're paying $300 they can't even get the squares aligned correctly. Just LOOK at that pic: left arrow is rotated clockwise a bit, and the squares at the bottom are noticably off as well. Just look at at the the bottom-right corner of Down and the bottom-left corner of Start! You'd expect it to be right for the price you're paying... |

That's a real minor problem. It probably affects your performace by .1%. It also doesn't happen a lot, and you can just adjust it to be aligned perfectly by just opening it up.
Bahamut727: There is nothing wrong with the start and select placement. It may seem that its a bad place to put them because you might accidently step on it causing you to fail the song but it won't happen because the sensor for start and select are at the very back. The contact starts on the text for start and select and goes like 3 inches to the edge of the pad.
When e-mailing RO, everybody should tell them to use sheet metal contacts! Don't just tell them to improve their contact system, they might just improve by adding more foil or something else stupid. Tell them about sheet metal on sheet metal like the CF: http://www.angelfire.com/freak2/bsphil/incf.jpg |

Oh ok. People kept complaining about it so I assumed it was the entire lower right and lower left panels.
Also, yes, I mentioned sheet metal in my letter. Please everyone should write them. My letter will do absolutely nothing to help "fix" the RO pads. However, if A LOT of people send in complaints, they will look into it. Please! If you want a good, durable metal pad (that looks cool ) Take 5 minutes to write a letter. And make sure you hit spell check before you send it (and be polite) |
Yes, everyone please do this! E-mail RO and tell them to use sheet metal on sheet metal contacts for their metal pad and tell them how its better than their current method, you could also mention that their biggest competitor, CF, also uses sheet metal, thats what makes CF better. |

Ok, so, if I get really good on the CF pad, will I be able to do just as good in the arcade? Or will it take some time to get used to the arcade pad again?
Oh, and on the CF pad, when you step on em, the arrows go down ... right? |

The CF is very unlike the arcade. It'll probably take you a little bit to get used to the arcade pad.
The arrows go down *very* slightly. |

RO reply to my sheet metal on sheet metal suggestion:
I actually have forwarded that on to the CEO, since I am just customer service =(
but ...he really does listen to what the people have to tell him...so... that is a definite possibility!! |
