I first saw my freind play it on the boardwalk. Boardwalk = good sized crowds. There was no way I was gonna try it there. Then I went to the mall, saw the machine was broken, and went and bought it for home. I've just recently started playing at the arcade. So much better, but a tough transition. _________________

As a n00b who knew jack didely poopy about the arcade lifestyle, i was scared. mainly cuz of the ppl watching. then you got ur l337 players who dont like watchin n00bs play slow songs. so i sucked it up about two days after my first home play. i went to the arcade, and there were two dudes playin. so i put my coin up (as seeing that's what you gotta do) and i was nervous sometimes that i would take it off. _________________

most newbs ive seen wait for most people to leave so they can play by themselves without others watching. i was like that. first time i played i was sooo scared.. then when the spotlight hits you oh damn i was surprised and scared.. and i think thats the first and only time the announcer guy manages to get to you. And the place where i used to play was THE place for DDRers. Was not fun.. yet it was fun. strange, no? |

I first played on Xtra Mix, at a party, made a (donkey) out of myself, but instantly loved it. It wasn't that I couldn't play is that I didn't know the music, once I got the music stuffed into my cranium the rhytem became natural (after a year, and a couple of months playing at home). So in short, first time anxiouity attack, recent time don't care, first time freestyle.... WOAH NELLY!!!!!!!!!!! _________________

April 1999: I heard about a place called Cyberzone Arcade in Koreatown, LA, from reading an article featuring a token of that place (Tips & Tricks). When I saw the DDR 1.5 mix machine at the front, it did look very intimidating to me. I was very afraid to play the game, for fear that I would make a fool of myself. After so much hesitation, I tried the first song Have You Ever Been Mellow, got only 2,000 points & failed miserably. So I was realy to give up on the game completely. If it hadn't been for a chance meeting with Jenith (Bum Suk) telling me how to play the game, then I wouldn't be the DDR locations scout today. And the rest is history...
Is that a trip or what? Please reply, over! Thanks!

The first time I really played was when I was with my friend and a bunch of girls, so ya I was definitly nerevous and failed, while my friend was playing hard songs on standard.
He had only been playing 2 months really. But thats what sparked me, and I have been playing for 4 months and I can pass a few catas. _________________

I never really cared about what other people think or the fact that I was a newb. Considering how I was just stomping on a few arrows every few seconds (easy song) it didn't seam too intimidating or embarrassing. |

I suck at metal pads for some reason.
I need more practice, but no one is ever in our arcade that actually knows how to play so they think i do good reguadless, but it still sucks when i cant reach my goals |

Let's see... my local arcade (before it was closed) didn't have many people. My ex-boyfriend (was my boyfriend at the time), decided to have me try it. He had played for awhile, explained it to me, I tried Butterfly Light and a couple other songs. I did just fine... And I was hooked, too! Heh heh... I'm better than him now.
*Edit: Oh yeah, main point - No, I wasn't afraid, because I'm a dancer (ballet, jazz, and that stuff), so I'm used to performing in front of a lot of people, doing solos and stuff. DDR was nothing compared to being the Sugar Plum Fairy! _________________

Hmm...I started out at the arcade on a band trip. I'd seen a DDR Console before, on King Of the Hill (Heaven-sent-animated-sitcom!!), and I was like, WOO!, and got in line and played. And did WWWBlondegirl shamelessly. Not to mention on Basic, as this was MAX2, and MAX2 has no beginner mode. Wasn't really scared, just intrested. I was all anime-freakish, and knew that it came from Japan, and so I was more or less, like, JAPAN! WOO!.

I was scared for sure. I was capable of doing trick songs at the time but i felt so paralyzed that I only did Basic and I sucked. This was at the Pier in Santa Monica, CA. It was so embarrising. I live Oregon now but if I could go back I would show them all! |

I like to go to arcades to beat the asses of my best friends... back then i was only able to do a few standards with a B rank, but now i can do sum maniac songs and a lot of advanced... if only i could find a 2nd mix machine in Vancouver that's cheaper than 3 tokens... o well.
i need a 5th mix disc... bad. _________________

Dude, who cares what people think. You should play not to impress girls, the guys that are good at DDR, or whatever you should play for yourself and have fun. I remember my first time playing DDR in the 4th Mix days and I sucked, but as I continued playin I gained more from playin and got better. _________________
