I don't know if anyone has mentioned this earlier, but is it possible to replace an old modchip with an updated one? You see, my PS2 already has one of those old modchips that require disc swapping, but I can't stand it. |

I made a slide card out of a PetCo discount card, and it just buckled when I tried to use it. Also, the template was too big for the card that I had (did not know if that would be a problem as I thought it to be a handle) maybe the dimensions were wrong when I cut it?
How did you guys cut your slidecard (what did you use just regular scissors or a more precise Box Cutter/Utility knife) and where did you get the template for it? This is the template I was using http://ps2.consolevision.com/knife.shtml.
Thanks a lot,

I only just started to think about importing and I heard about this flip top cover thing on the forum. I looked at it and saw it requires disk swapping. Is it really reliable? Is there anything in particular I need to know if want to get one? Is it really as good as it says? _________________

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask. Do I need a japanese memory card to save import games? Scuse' me if I sound naive. _________________

No, the hardware is all the same globally, same thing with controls.

Okay, I did some more homework and ordered a flip-top mod, boot disk, and DDR Extreme from Play-Asia. I hope it all works. Only 7-12 days of waiting left...a very long 7-12 days... _________________

Tekked - I use the flip-top mod on my v7 PS2 and it works great. The only two things you have to be careful for are:
1) When removing the factory PS2 cover, make sure you don't yank the ribbon cable that connects to the power/eject buttons. You'll know what I mean when you see it.
2) Make sure the screws are -tight- when you install your new case. If you start up your PS2 after the mod and you hear less-than-pleasent friction noises, chances are that the case isn't on tight enough.
I've had absolutely problems booting MAXJP, MAX2JP, and DDR Extreme import mixes using the flip-top case and the Swap Magic 2.0 disks. One thing I like about this mod is that once games come out that can detect mod chips, my PS2 will still run fine; it's making no changes to the PS2 BIOS or electronics architecture, so if you're just loading up a normal game in your region, the mod is completely undetectable by the software.
The ONLY thing I don't like about this mod is that (for now) it doesn't work with PS1 imports. But I have a modded PS1 for that, so I'm still OK. The flip-top mod is relatively inexpensive and easy to install. I think you'll enjoy it. |

Will this pre-mod PS2 work with DDR-Extreme? I am pretty sure it will, but I would like a 2nd opinion. _________________

If it really has a Messiah chip in it, I don't see why it wouldn't work. But I'm not really the most experienced personto comment on the subject... _________________

Does Pro Action Replay ver 2 (USA) work as a bootdisc?
I read that it worked at PS2 Vision, but I cant boot anything off of it with a swap (using slide card)... maybe I am doing something wrong? I'm really starting to get frustrated with this and may get someone to mod my ps2.
TIA.

For I suppose about 6-10 months I've had a magic 3 modchip in my ps2, installed by Dav at psx-tech. All was well and good and I had a lot of fun playing 5th mix. However, recently I tried to copy a dvd game (ggxx) and I got the nice red screen. At the time I didn't really care, just figured either there was some special way to copy a dvd or some patch I needed to apply or maybe it was a bad disk, whatever. But now, my copy of Extreme arrived and that was met with the same result. I've tried all sorts of ways of pressing the reset button, holding it down until the eject light, tapping once, turning ps2 on, inserting disc, turning it off then tapping, etc. Another thing to note is that for a long time, (I can't remember since when) I've had to hold the reset until the eject light came on to play any kind of game, ps1 import/domestic/copy or ps2 original. I realized that I had never tried to play an import or copy ps2 game up to this point, so for all I know it was like that since it arrived. Also I found this possible solution, but I don't trust my soldering abilities at all. I already left a post on the psx-tech board, but I though I'd post my problem here too, in case anyone has had this sort of problem before. If anyone could help I'd really appreciate it.
EDIT: Dav walked me through it, my laser needed cleaning.

You won't, peripherals are universal. |

Action Replays and Gamesharks can work as Bootdisks but you NEED to have either the slide card or a flip top. You need a way to remove the Gameshark and replace it with the game you want to play, without pushing the eject button. That way the system doesnt know that you switched the disc.
I have the Flip top mod took about 5 min to install and works great. No problems here.

Question for Messiah 2 owners:
I got one installed into my ps2 and it worked great for a while but now I'm constantly getting red screens. PS1 mode works fine but nothing else works. If I boot an original, it gives me the same playstation2 logo as if the chip wasnt installed.. I think I might have put it into permanent sleep mode...
So has anyone else experienced this symptom and know how to fix it? |
