[quote=Go for BNS. Its the same thing as cobalt except for the price.
$130.00
I've had mine for 2 months now. No problems.
Polycarbonate panels + sheetmetal contacts. BNS has it.[/quote]

1) Its slim, just like Cobalt. Maybe 1 inch think.
2) Definitly. It's suggested.
3, 4, 7) I dont know. I weight 165 and I stomp the hell out of my pad, no problem, but Im sure it could take more than twice that. The Polycarbonate panels are extremely strong and the arrows design is simply 2 big pieces of sheet metal separated by thin foam that touch each other when then foam is compressed (same as cobalt). Exquistie sensibility, often claimed to be even better than the arcade. (other than the polycarbonate arrows, it's 100% metal.)
5,6) Ohh ya, its worth it. Like I've said millions of times before, it's basically the same exact thing as the famous cobaltflux pads, only you get a 1 month warranty instead of 6, but since the pads are built like brick walls, its kind of pointless because the only thing that could brake is the wiring, which is often very easy to fix. I've already had mine for 2 and a half months, and it's still just like new.
8) Believe me, it's 1 baddazz pad.
I'm a hardcore DDRer. I stomp the piss out of it almost everday and
I probably won't ever need to buy another dance pad again.

WOW... im intrigued, how much room does it take up in comparison with the ignition _________________

Just measure it out.
BNS is about 34 by 34 inches (not exact, check the website).
I dont know the dimensions of the ignition pad, but I'm guessing that it's probably close to the same size as BNS, just thinner and with different materials. |

I've a few questions about this pad, and if anyone has one, i'd like to know the following:
Firstly, is it like the arcade pads? because the FAQ says:
"No, this product differs to the official pad, its dimensions are: 100cm x 87cm x 8cm (2003-09-22)"
Though I believe it's referring to the actual pad size, not the arrow sizes.
"They are very close to being true to arcade yes. (2003-09-30)"
Which.. is fairly qualitative and could be up to a person's discretion.
So basically, the things i'd like to know are:
1. Are they like the arcade pads? Can you tell if you're hitting or missing?
2. Do the arrows crack? I've heard about acryllic arrows and the problems caused by them, and although they seem fairly easy to fix, i'd rather not.. Then again the idea of me breaking anything is somewhat amusing, i'm 45kgs, about 100lbs.
3. How durable are they? How long will this pad last?
Thanks!

1. Yes, you can definitly tell when you hit or miss. The arrows are VERY sensitive and the WHOLE arrow is a button, not just the middle.
The innards are just 2 pieces of sheet metal the size of the arrow separated by foam.
When the foam is compressed, the metal can make contact at any point and complete the curcuit.
I've never had any ghost or multiple steps with this pad.
The only thing that could possibly go wrong would be for a wire to break off one of the pieces of sheet metal. Solution: Solder it back on.
2. No, they really use polycarbonated panels. I was shocked when the pad arrived at my house in 1 piece. I expected at least 2 arrows to be cracked or split (like with the old BNS' that used acrylic), but it was in perfect condition. On top of that, i weigh about 165 and I've been slam dancing on it for the past 2 months, NO cracks at all, so far.
(It took me about 2 months to break all four arrows on the older BNS model.)
3. Metal + polycarbonate panels = Super durability.
This pad will probably outlast DDR itself. |

The Cobalt Flux doesn't use foam.
Also, have you had anyone in the higher weight ranges (235+ lbs.) test your BNS out by playing 9's and 10's repeatedly? |

Thats my fault, I wasn't being very specific. The stuff that separates the metal contacts on BNS Isn't "FOAM" but a thin, hard, foamy-sponge like material that separates the sheet metal. I don't know it's exact properties, but it does get the job done.
BTW, What does Cobalt use?
I only play 9 and 10 footers, and I step really hard and jump really high whenever I can. (I broke the old BNS' acrylic arrows in about 2 months time.) |

There are four circles of velcro at the corners of each sheet to separate the plates, and circuits are made by direct metal-metal contact.
The con is that after a couple months of use (for me, anyway... someone of your weight may go three or four months), you need to re-flex the metal panels so they're far enough apart to not make a connection too easily.
The pro is that it's easy to do it, and you don't have to buy/scavenge new foam everytime the foam wears out too much to maintain the right balance of sensitivity. |

The foam on my old BNS (Aug/02) still has yet to wear down.
Plus, even if it were better, how hard could it be to attach velcro circles on my pad if I wanted? |
